re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??

Well, I spoke with guy at Xbox Live today since my family plan ($99) just automatically renewed. He said as long as I continue to pay I'm grandfathered in. So I can keep my (4) gold accounts, even when the XBone comes out.

Aren't you getting screwed that way? If they are doing away with the family plan to allow 1 gold account per household, aren't you losing roughly $50 on the deal? Or am I missing something?

Maybe he is getting multiple consoles? Or keeping the 360 and adding an X1 in a different room with different accounts? If not, yeah he is losing money.

If you have older kids, who want their own tags, it seems like a pretty good deal.

I thought the new Live Gold was basically the Family Plan but at the normal price?

re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??

Looks like MS is paying around $2-$3 to Sony for every X1 console sold to include Bluray. Not too bad, I was always wondering how much they had to pay for that. Should give Sony a nice 100 Million boost in a few years. Then again, Sony game devs pay MS to use Windows on their machines, so it's basically a wash

I think that info comes from here:

Keep in mind it's just an estimate.

That's why I asked. According to the guy I spoke with, everyone will require their own gold account. Which doesn't mean everyone without an account doesn't have access to the games on that console. But it could mean for online gaming they do (exactly like it is today).

I was under the impression that a gold subscription for a gamertag was good for the console itself, thus everyone else logging into that device had gold.

Plus Sony is paying Toshiba every time a Blu-ray player sells.

All of these big corporations are incestuous as hell, and Sony really took one on the chin to get blu-ray in the PS3, so it's a wash at best for the gaming division.

As for the X1, just be thankful it has blu-ray. You'll get your games on one disk now, and they'll be significantly less trashed if you buy them used or rent them.

Plus now you get super slow load times and get to install nearly every disc. Suh-weet.

Pretty sure that's a 2006 problem.

Also, before your edit, you had me googling "netball" trying to make sense of your post. I thought I had missed a meme or something.

That was my impression too from one of the presentations.

FWIW, I looked up the drive speeds and both consoles are 6x drives. Should be fine.

and you can start playing games before they are done installing, so I think that's pretty negligible.

re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??

I actually bought The Last of Us digitally from PSN Store.

It downloaded a "small" file, 300 MB or so, don't really remember, it was done really quick. And then when I clicked on Play, it started downloading the actual game, 20+ GB of it.

I was actually able to start playing the game around the 80% mark or so.

I really hope both consoles copy Steam and allow preloading the games. And then just activate them in release date.

BTW, Sony does not "own" Blu-ray. It's operated by something like 16-20 different companies in the BDA, which Sony is apart of. They will get a cut.

Interesting but I'm guessing false: MS may increase GPU speed and jump to 12GB of RAM if developers say it is worth it.

re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??

You mean to say MS is going to change something on the Xbox One...I find that totally shocking!

FWIW...it's close to 130 days before release. MS would have to manufacture close to 15,000 units per day to get around 2 Million ready for release. Probably a little late in the game to make any physical change...inside or out right now.

re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??

It would be great if they changed it, but yeah, seems kind of late. They did double the 360's RAM though, but I'm not sure how late in the game they did that.

Even better...everyone who drops $499 at launch will get a giant slap in the face 8-12 months from now when they drop it to $399 and upgrade the specs to match the PS4! I'll be looking to pick one up around this time next year.

Just like nearly every other console launch of the last few generations. Remember how the 360 launched with no hdmi or wifi?
