The next Batman: Arkham game coming this year!

This could be a game that would make me buy the new Xbox system if it launched with the system.

In an investor call, a member of Time Warner management has confirmed that a new game in the Batman: Arkham series will be released this year.

John K Martin is the company's CFO, and you can read the transcript of his comments on Yahoo! Finance. "And we also have a strong games release this year, which will include the next release in the Batman Arkham franchise," he says. "So all in all, we expect Warners to post another very strong year in 2013. And with a little luck, the year should be as good or maybe even a little bit better than 2012."

A third entry in the Arkham series has seemed inevitable for a while, but we've had no firm details on what it is or even who is developing it. Rocksteady had hinted that its next game will not be Batman-based, and Variety claimed that Warner's next Batman game will be a Silver Age prequel featuring members of the Justice League of America - but it also claimed that the game would not be out before 2014.

We'll have more news as we get it.

Let's hope they go smaller in scope rather than bigger. Arkham City was too much.

I didn't think Arkham City was too much....just that there wasn't enough to do in it. I seriously felt like I had rid the city of evil doers in 10 minutes.

I disagree it was too much. I think there just wasn't enough to do in the city, making the city seem too big. A true free roaming Batman where you could use all your gadgets was exactly how I imagined it to be.

I'll agree with you. I much preferred the limited focus of Asylum. I had no interest in finding the 5.7million Riddler trophies in City. There was just too much filler and not enough story. Consequently I never bothered. I thought Asylum was perfect. I also went back and played Asylum all over again. City I haven't touched again.

Asylum was much better. It felt dense, busy, and awesome. City was too large there was too much traveling from place to place.

Yes. More real missions and less tedious hunting trophies.

Agree with all of the above. I've played through Arkham Asylum 3 times now and wouldn't mind doing it again. I have yet to make it halfway through City despite at least 4 attempts to get into it.

I agree. In Asylum I'd try to remember spots to come back later with the right equipment in that classic Metroid style that I love. In City, if I saw something interesting, I knew I'd have to go for it right then or risk never seeing it again.

And there's no way new Xbox console is coming out this year.

Sure there is. We know (or almost know) that the PS4 is and we also know that the next Xbox is deep into development. I'd be surprised if it didn't release this year.

Which should make for an interesting Winter season. I wonder if they're counting on people buying new consoles or mostly staying with the old ones. Will they release the next CoD game on both systems? Will the big developers just target the current gen systems and see what the sales are like on the new ones before they develop big third-party games for them? Lots of information still to be revealed.

I'm surprised we haven't seen any announcement yet if its actually going to be released this year. My guess is a end of year release date, only we'll see it pushed back to early next year. Seemed to happen to a lot of games last year.

Wasn't the Silver Age prequel rumoured a long time ago (around the time of the upcoming DC fighting game was rumoured)?
