Just a note...this game actually locks out some single player content`if you don't by new. Not that big of a deal, it is the missions you send your team out on to get resources and level them up (in the past games it was assassins, this game it is your extra ships.) I think they are justifying it because there is also a feature that lets you sync those missions with people on your friends list to speed them up, but ultimately it is a way to limit resources on people who buy used or loan a game to a friend.

That's what happens when you do one to two releases of a franchise per year, and your last tentpole entry sucks.

I have to wonder...did the guys that made Creed 2 and Brotherhood make this one? After I ripped apart the abomination that was 3 I have to say I'm really enjoying this one. I still have a ways to go but it's right up there as one of my favorites in the series along with 2 and Brotherhood.
This is the first one I didn't buy outright after that last fiasco and just rented it to make sure the series got back on track. I would say it has. Probably going to jump on a Black Friday deal to finish it up rather than paying 8 bucks every week to keep renting.

It seemed like ACIII was almost universally panned by fans. I wonder if that has alot to do with it. It's a shame cause I really think Black Flag set the series back on the right course.

re: Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag (2014 OUT NOW)
I had this posted in the XBOX One thread and wanted to add it here in the hopes that it can help someone else down the road....
It ended up being more game related than system related but I wanted to post an update to all the Black Flag problems I was having. I was having major stuttering, could not connect to any Ubisoft features and the companion app was useless. I figured it was partially XBOX One issues and the rest crappy servers. I finally gave up on e-mails and called Ubisoft today. It turns out my Uplay account was an old account that had no e-mail account associated with it, which sounds bizarre to me. The game was trying to work with my old/outdated account and it couldn't. The guy on the phone was SUPER helpful and managed to tie the account I have had for years to an e-mail I have. Once I reset the password on that account every single thing was fixed. The game runs like a dream and I can access all the features including the companion app.

I really liked AC4 - just finished it. Now working on the legendary ships which seem impossible to beat... AC3 was not a bad game, but was definitely the weakest of the entire series. I did enjoy hunting and looking for UFO's and the like. I liked the interplay between H. Kenway and Conner.
AC4 just seems to have combined all the elements of Sid Meier's Pirates! with AC and the result is spectacular. Can't get over how enjoyable it is. How will they get away from the pirates angle in the next one?

Oh one other thing, it prompts me for an update when I put my disc in. If I download it, it restarts and then tells me the disc is scratched. Erase the cache and play without download and it works fine. Any ideas on this? I can't use the fleet or any of the download stuff...

Others have already said it, but holy shit is this a jump back up from the travesty that was 3. I was having trouble getting into Killzone on my PS4, so I popped this in. About 15 hours in, it's my favorite AC so far, which says a lot considering I really enjoyed 2 & Brotherhood. Edward's a much more enjoyable character than Connor, the story's better, I haven't hit any significant bugs, the gameplay's improved, the environments are beautiful and hell, they even improved the out-of-animus segments substantially. They really hit all their marks on it. And damn is it pretty. I don't know if the 360/PS3 versions also saw a jump in graphics, but on the PS4, this is the best looking console game I've played.

I love the improved ship battle stuff in this one. The only thing I miss from III was building the homestead. I really liked seeing that develop more than I enjoy upgrading my ship. Improving the ship is a grueling fucking process but I love the rest of the game.

So... can I play this without finishing AC3?
I know it's a different story. I'm a big fan of the series. Even got the $150 or so LE of some of the previous games. But AC3... ugh!
I will probably get this for the X1, when it's under $30.

I bought this, and the only entry I completed in the series was AC1. I started but only played for a few minutes part 2.
I'm really enjoying this game, but I have to admit the ship steering during battle can be annoying. I'm winning by sheer brute force through upgrades rather than strategy. I guess as long as that keeps working I won't mind it too much.
Also is anyone using the app? I like the concept, and at one point someone on here helped me to make my trip quicker, but I have never seen the option to assist anyone else. It's a pretty cool app.

Hey guys — if anyone else is doing fleet stuff on the PS4, let's help each other out. It takes about 20–30 minutes a day but you can do it on your iPad via the companion app. It's a foolproof way to make money, and if you help each other out, it cycles through the process quicker.

I sent you a request Bus. However I'm not sure how to assist people, but I'll look it up later.

I haven't done much with the fleet stuff yet, but will be happy to help anyone out if I'm playing and can figure out how to do it. Can't commit to every day, as my schedule's too sporadic, but I'll give it a look whenever I'm on. My PSN is maxfisher77.

Kinda changing my mind about this game. There are WAY too missions where I have to trail somebody. I realize in general this series is the same concept and actions over and over again but these missions are just annoying and frustrating.
