Re: Assassin's Creed 4 (2014)

They need to take a break from the franchise and come up with some fresh ideas.

So, this pirate thing seems pretty legit. Nice. Hope it's great.

I guess the game after this one will be called Assassin's Creed: Raid.
Yeah, but it's "Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag", not "Assassin's Creed: Black Flag". The previous one was III, hence my mild surprise.

Part of me doesn't want to get excited about this and get fooled yet again but I'd be all for more naval adventures and less "what every other AC game has been to date".

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Confirmed

Ubisoft has confirmed that the next entry in the Assassin’s Creed series will be called Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. The news comes in the form of the game’s first official art, which you can check out below:

Today’s announcement confirms the title initially revealed by leaked marketing material this week and also expands upon Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot’s comments earlier this month that the newest Assassin’s Creed game features a new hero and time period.

While no concrete details are given in the art, it’s immediately clear that the game will involve pirates, just as rumors suggested a few weeks ago.

Want to know more about Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag? IGN will be live streaming the game's official announcement -- including the first details -- on Monday, March 4th at 9:00 a.m. Pacific (5pm GMT). Our pre-show starts at 8:30, so tune in early and find out all the news as it's revealed.

Hopefully this isn't the same team and director that worked on part III.

Re: Assassin's Creed 4 (2014)

I like the overall look of the new Assassin but they need to ditch the hood. I know it's "iconic" but it made little sense in ACIII and makes even less sense in a high seas setting.

My bad. I was under the impression it was being called "Assassin's Creed: Black Flag" sans the IV. In that case, it's definitely surprising to see a numbered title with a subtitle. Also surprising to see a game in this series take on an earlier Assassin than the one from a previous entry.

How do we know that this doesn't take place in the late 18th century or early 19th century during the dying days of piracy?

It was mentioned earlier in this thread that the new Assassin is Connor's grandfather.

On his mother's side or is this the father of the guy who you play as in the beginning of 3? I already forget his name...

The new Assassin was said to be Edward Kenway, father of Haytham Kenway (Connor's father).

If that proves true, hopefully they can actually weave an interesting tale regarding how Haytham Kenway, son of an Assassin, ended up a Templar.

That and I hope they bring back the conspiracy theories from ACII and ACB.

It lets the detractors of AC III know that this game isn't AC III. At the same time it has enough of an association with AC III to not be an admission that AC III was a mistake.

I read those as 2 separate things -- coming October 29th, and also to next-gen consoles.
