and i'm sure if the console had a few better games and more of the functionality that is sure to come soon, that score would be higher from polygon. they pretty much nailed their review on the head of the system, despite what some people think.

If The Last of Us or a new Uncharted was available at launch, the console would get a 9. There is no great reason to get the console now... but that's the nature of new toys -- you get them on potential.

So now sites are giving review scores to consoles?? I don't remember any previous generations consoles getting a score for obvious reasons.

i am pretty sure i remember sites giving scores on xbox360/ps3 consoles when they came out.

No... I feel your pain. That project is forthcoming (new house as of 8 weeks ago). I'm not sure how I'm going to get thru all the backlog of 360 games plus the 4 I now have for the PS4 plus the 3 I've ordered for the X1.
Hell, every time I play 45 minutes on GTA V I only get about 1.5% more progress than the last time. I'll be done with that game in 2016.

Nothing is going to have 100% no fail rate. But of course the internets will turn it into a shit storm. Nothing to worry about unless it turns into RROD situation.

It's disappointing from someone like him who's usually so frank and forward. There are a few extremely high and extremely low scores for Knack and Killzone, but if you ignore that handful of outliers, the scores are really consistent from site-to-site, and the same points of criticism appear in just about all of these reviews. Though I'm sure reviews were rushed somewhat, most/all of that is a deliberate decision on Sony's part with the last-minute review event, so I don't know why they're grousing about it. I don't know how many reviewers played the games through to completion, but if they're having little-to-no fun 6-8 hours in, I don't know how much of a difference another few hours or an extra day of play would make.

I'm just surprised there isn't a Ridge Racer out for the PS4 at launch. I thought that was mandatory!

Agreed. We'll always hear about the few that fail and never about the hundreds of thousands that don't. Unless there's a trend to the failures I see no reason to be concerned.

i wouldn't put too much stock into it yet. i mean, there are always going to be failures of hardware. stuff slips through the cracks. now if there are widespread reports after friday, i'd say be worried.

I normally don't worry, but most of these units have only been in hand for days, not weeks or months. It will be VERY interesting to see where we stand by, say, Christmas/New Years. If we were seeing numbers like this post launch I wouldn't think anything of it. This just seems odd to me already.

The more advanced the systems become the more we'll see things like this though I guess.

Yep, no worries yet. After the RROD almost every failure in any console is claimed as the next apocalypse. Truth is that after that, the RROD, consoles have been pretty reliable.

Oh, and I forgot, they haven't released the console yet. So tomorrow we should know for sure. But reading a few reports it may be a firmware issue.

Is game-sharing basically dead with PS4? As I understand it, you can mark a console as your "home" unit, and then any other PSN that logs into it, can play any of your purchased PSN content. And also you can go to a non-home PSN, and sign in with your ID, and download/play any of your stuff, but that is ONLY if you're signed in, correct? So, you cannot sign in to a non-home ps4, download something you bought, and then allow someone else to sign-in and play (when you're NOT also signed in)? I'm aware that multiple users can sign in and play together (and earn trophies).

Yep, thumbs up. Naughty Dog is my main reason for the PS3/PS4. There will be another Uncharted, LoU game on the PS4 I guess I could've waited for the PS4, but why bother... It's not like the price is going to be cheaper in six months. I can see a new model in a year or two and the price probably drop to $350-ish, but not going to deprave a new toy over $50, especially with PS+ benefits.

If my memory of other launch lineups hasn't been corrupted by time, the scores for this PS4 launch seem to be on par, or higher. A few solid 8s and 7s with some much anticipated free content? Sounds like a pretty strong lineup. How many games can you people play at the same time anyway?

This is a relative tidal wave of content compared to any console launch I can remember.

I think the difference so far is that there's usually (not always) some kind of killer app at launch. Halo, Super Mario 64, etc. And it doesn't look like we're going to get that this generation.

Is anyone placing their PS4 on top of their 360? That was my original plan, but now I'm getting second thoughts due to heat generated by the 360. Does anyone think this could harm the PS4?
