Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo

So I take it that means no Black Friday deals on Wii U games?

Not much, at least if you exclude consoles/bundles, Skylanders, and Disney Infinity.

Best Buy - Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 for $30

GameStop - Rayman Legends for $25; ZombiU (used) for $10

Walmart - Lego Marvel Super Heroes and Scribblenauts Unmasked for $25 each; Scribblenauts Unlimited and Lego Batman 2 for $15

Hastings - Just Dance 2 and Assassin's Creed 4 for $40 each, Injustice: Gods Among Us for $25, and Angry Birds Trilogy for $15

Rayman Legends for $25 is up my alley, but if I can't get that deal online I won't bother.

My only gripe (and it's minor) is that I find the L and R buttons slightly uncomfortable to reach. It seems they're a little farther away from the sticks than on other controllers. The trigger buttons are fine though, and if I were playing a SNES game I'd map L and R to those.

I've never known Best Buy to do regional ads, especially for Black Friday. I'm surprised. This is the kind of deal I'd been hoping for. Too bad I'm not down in LA.

The prices are valid through the 30th, so if you're not inclined to go on Thursday I'm sure there will still be systems after. I highly doubt this would sell out.

It says that bundle is available when I do a local search. I just wish their website would offer it for sale, as I try to avoid retail if at all possible between now and the end of the year. Decisions, decisions.

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo

I'm gonna go next Friday and see if it's there. If not, no harm no foul, I'll just pay $300 for the regular system.

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo

Man, the business model for downloadable games is such bullshit.

So I want to get Need For Speed MW for the U, and I'd rather download it than have a disc. A new physical copy is pretty much $20 everywhere, or $15 used. But it's freaking $60 to download from Nintendo's eshop. What a bunch of crap!

I understand that stores already payed for what they have and are trying to clear them out, but still...

That is part of why I won't go digital for games I could otherwise get on disc.

I only go digital for day one, first party games.

The Wii U is almost totally sold out on GameStop.com now...

Basically, if there's a disc version I can get, I will probably opt for that, unless the disc version is just an afterthought to the digital one (like the Journey disc, which I did get, that simply installed the digital version onto your PS3).

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo

If you look at any outlet or even other forums, a TON of people have bought a Wii U in the last week, so this makes sense.

My wife is "console-blocking" me from getting a Wii U, since I just bought both next-gen systems

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo

Since I skipped out on the One for now, I was really tempted to pick up a Wii U while I was at Target yesterday. They had the Mario bundle for $299 and it came with a $25 gift card. Having the Red Card would have dropped it down another 5% too. But I'm in the same boat. There are only 2 or 3 games I want and it's hard to justify a $300 system for that, especially after picking up a PS4 2 weeks ago. I bet by this time next year, we see some sale prices that get it down to $199. That's the price I'm waiting for.

The disc is in a standard Wii U case, no instruction booklet. You can easily switch between games in the main menu.

Well, I ended up picking up a used copy from PawnStop for $16. I first checked the disc, and thankfully it was flawless, not so much as a smudge. But I hate that the digital market made me step into that store, even though it's right around the corner from my work and there was no one in there...

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo

Playing around with NFS:MW last night, great game, but made me realize that the tablet is a shitty controller for racing games. The touch-screen integration is nice, but the actual controls are crap. The triggers for acceleration/breaks are just buttons that have two modes; on & off. You can't accelerate or break just a little like you can with the 360 or PS3 controllers. Also, the sticks are crap. They have a very narrow range of movement, so you over-steer by moving them a little and they're convex instead of concave, so it's not particularly ergonomic to your thumb resting on it, and they're just a little too stout as well. And with my middle finger resting under the controller, against the barrier behind the triggers, it starts to wear on my finger and rub it raw, not unlike writing with an uncomfortable pencil for a long time.

Also, who's ever idea it was to make the controller shiny and a horrible magnet for finger-stains, needs to drive around to Wii U owner's home and polish each person's controller to understand what a retarded mistake he made.

Seriously, people saying that the gamepad/tablet is comfortable and not-cumbersome are speaking a different language to me, because it is easily the most cumbersome controller I've ever had to use. And I don't mean just for the racing games, but the Marios as well - I'm glad those give me the option to use the Wii wand instead.

Also, the battery life is shit - feels like I get barely 2 hours out of a single charge, and playing while it's plugged in is just more burdensome.

So, to sum up; shitty controller, but I'm still enjoying the few games I've played.

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo

It's comfortable... for what it is. It's no replacement for a traditional controller, but it's far better than what you'd expect just looking at it.

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo

I'm one of the people who thought it was the stupidest idea for a controller to ever see the light of day, but once I actually played around with it I thought it was actually pretty comfortable. Granted, I've yet to play any games at length but for the time I've used it I thought it was great.
