Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
First party stuff for the rest of the year:
We already knew about Super Mario Maker coming on September 11th for $59.99 (too high a price, in my opinion). The new info is that Walmart has an exclusive console bundle that includes the Wii U, Super Mario Maker, the idea book, and an Amiibo for $299.96. It doesn't sound as if the U.S. is getting the game+Amiibo bundle that the rest of the world is getting, bizarrely.
Yoshi's Woolly World will be available on October 16th on its own for $49.99 or with a green yarn Amiibo for $59.99. Pink and blue yarn Yoshis will be available on the same day for $16.99 a pop. A gigantic Amiibo -- Mega Yarn Yoshi -- will pop up on November 15th for $39.99.
Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water isn't getting a physical release in the U.S. (boo!). eShop only. It's free to start (prologue, all of chapter 1, much of chapter 2), and the full game is $49.99 on October 22nd. Europe is getting a sexy limited edition with a physical disc, posters, an art book, and stuff.
Star Fox Zero is $59.99, surprisingly, and will be released on November 20th.
Xenoblade Chronicles, as we knew, is launching December 4th for $59.99.
Devil's Third is apparently getting a physical release and is coming out December 11th for $59.99.
No official dates for Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival or Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash other than "Holiday 2015". The first Animal Crossing Amiibo will be Isabelle, Digby, K.K., Reese, Cyrus, Tom Nook, Mabel, and Lottie.

Looks like my Wii u died. If I get a new one can I log with with my id to the new Wii u and download splatoon like I would on the ps or X1?

I think you have to contact Nintendo to have them authorize everything on the new console. It can definitely be done, but from what I understand, it does take a phone call.

I was reading Gameinformer Magazine yesterday and it says Nintendo gave it the N64 look on purpose. They did it as a gesture for the fans of the game.

It's also pushing 120 fps: 60 fps from the TV view and 60 fps from the cockpit/gamepad view. With the limited horsepower the Wii U has anyway, I don't think Starfox had much chance of looking significantly better. The insanely fast turnaround from prototype to retail release couldn't have helped any.

The pre order for the Mario Maker bundle is up over at Wal Mart. It comes with an exclusive 8-bit Mario amiibo that will only be available at Wal Mart & Sams Club.

The 8-bit Amiibo with the original color scheme (brown and stuff) is definitely not exclusive. The 8-bit figure with the more modern color scheme (featured in that bundle) may or may not be sold outside of Walmart/Sam's Club after October 1st.

So does it look like the Wii-U is going to stick around for several more years? My kid will be 5 next year and this one is probably the best for him. I would hate to buy a console that was going to die out soon.

I love my Wii U and think it has the best library of any current-gen system, but it's near the end of its very short life. If it makes your decision any easier, Nintendo often has refurbished Wii U consoles for $200 on their website, and they look (and, by a number of accounts, actually are) brand new.

The game doesn't sound like my thing so much, but the Xenoblade Chronicles X special edition still looks pretty incredible:

Honestly, no. It sure does look as if Nintendo is winding things down. They're unveiling the NX next year, and although we don't have a release date for it yet, it'll undoubtedly launch in 2016 or 2017. I'm expecting sooner rather than later.

What is the NX?

Nintendo's next platform. The speculation is that there'll be multiple form factors: say, a handheld and a console, with a shared/mostly shared library. Specifically what it is and specifically when it'll be released won't be announced until next year.

Where is that Xenoblade Chronicles LE going to be coming out? Is it a store exclusive?
It's kind of amazing how few special editions Nintendo puts out, considering they'd sell like hotcakes, or even amiibos.

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo
I know a lot of hardcore gamers are basically bored with Nintendo by now, but it's precisely because my kids are young that I'll probably buy into their next system. The kids are just discovering Nintendo characters, and as limited as the WiiU library seems to be, there are very few games that are not suitable or interesting to them. The downside is that most games require reading because of the lack of voice acting, but once they can read...
On a side note, my daughter had to do a project, and when asked what she wanted to be when she grows up, she picked a miner... because of the 3DS game Fantasy Life...

It's really a Nintendo of America thing; Europe gets quite a few special editions. They also get physical releases of titles that are eShop-only over here. NoA had the worst Club Nintendo rewards too.
