Just watched the kickstarter video of Grim Dawn, Had some gameplay, looked pretty good sort of like a Diablo/Champions of Norrath clone. Looked like a good time.

Re: Ultimate Kickstarter Video Games Thread
I've backed Double Fine and Wasteland 2 so far. I'm very likely to back Leisure Suit Larry.

Maybe we all should design a DVDTalk crest? |

There's a Kickstarter for remasters of the Sherlock Holmes: Consulting Detective Adventure Mysteries from the early 90s. For $9 you get the original 9 mysteries (originally released as 3 games with 3 mysteries each):

I put in a pledge, but it doesn't look like it's going to make it.
But Groucho is right, this one isn't going to come close to completing. |

Re: Ultimate Kickstarter Video Games Thread
The creators of Space Quest, Mark Crowe and Scott Murphy aka "Two Guys from Andromeda" have gotten back together to work on a new space-themed adventure game. They've confirmed on their first podcast that it won't be Space Quest, and that they'll be starting a Kickstarter to fund it:
http://guysfromandromeda.com/podcast...wo-guys-speak/ DVDTalk user Duran had previously posted about the new game, but that was before it was known there'd be a Kickstarter for it: http://forum.dvdtalk.com/video-game-...res-works.html |

It should make it. 13 days and it will probably jump a bit at the end. I would pop in $15 but I'm throwing a lot of money (for me anyway) towards Shadowrun. If LSL is ridiculously close to make it and time is running out, I might reconsider.

Re: Ultimate Kickstarter Video Games Thread
Nice article I liked this part:
“Overall, I want to ‘invest’ in a game that I want to play or made by a guy that I adore,” Dent said. “I spoke to/begged David Jaffe recently about using Kickstarter to make a game. I have no idea where he is on that or if he is going to go down that route. My point is that I love Jaffe’s games, so if I were to see that he was setting that up in Kickstarter, I would instantly support it.” This might be the best, or at least safest, use of Kickstarter: The service allows proven talent to create games with a large audience but limited appeal to traditional investors. |

It looks like Leisure Suit Larry will make it, 4,000 dollars and a week to go. It should pass it today. I'm glad. Meanwhile, Shadowrun looks to make 1.5 million easy, if there wasn't only a few days left, I'd say 2 million would not be out of the question. I still need to put in my money for Shadowrun, but I'm making sure $125 won't kill my bank account.

Re: Ultimate Kickstarter Video Games Thread
Some general Kickstarter news:
A new, game-specific alternative to Kickstarter is due to launch at this year's E3, called Gambitious: http://www.gamesindustry.biz/article...o-launch-at-e3 It's launching in Europe first, and the major difference is that it allows profit sharing, making the funders actual investors. Here's an article critical of the of the service: http://penny-arcade.com/report/edito...actual-investm Extra Credits on PATV has an episode about crowdfunding: http://penny-arcade.com/patv/episode/crowdfunding That episode references both Kickstarter and Rockethub. I hadn't really thought of Kickstarter alternatives/competitors, so did a search and found this article about 5 various websites for crowdfunding games: http://www.gamasutra.com/view/featur...n_.php?print=1 Kickstarter definitely seems the biggest, both in general and specifically for funding games. |
