Finished it on Normal. Great game. Took me 7 1/2 hours. 343 Industries did an awesome good with this. Multiplayer is as good as well. I'll try spartan ops next before another play through on legendary.

I've had nothing but issues with connections, on both multiplayer and Spartan Ops. Every game I've played on Spartan Ops has had nothing but constant lag which made each episode unplayable. I know for a goddamn fact it's not an issue with my connection, but it's all on 343/Microsoft's end.

The problem is that the servers are setup to find any available players which shouldn't be occurring. It should find any available players based upon location and ping first. I should be playing with users on the west coast, not in Australia or England. That's why Call of Duty's multiplayer works so beautifully with little-to-no issues. The game automatically routes me to people playing in my "general" area. Even if there were issues with servers or anything on their end, Activision with CoD would always release a "playlist update" rather than sending out an entire update to the game. It looks like there's a similar functionality here based upon the version of the game when you launch Infinity, but everything is still set to 1.0.

I've heard people mention the lag is due to too much occurring on screen. I call bullshit. Even though it's a different animal as it's on the PC, I play Team Fortress 2 all the time on servers that hold anywhere around 24-32 people. With all the firefights and madness occurring, any lag would be on the user's end (like frame rate drops) rather than be a network/server issue. The same should apply here.

I'm hoping with tomorrow's launch of Episode 2 of Spartan Ops, 343/Microsoft will send some updates to the multiplayer aspect. If not, fuck it. Black Ops 2 is out on Tuesday anyway.

For what it is worth, my son and I have not had lag...but two people on my friends list had to stop playing because of it. 343 released Halo Anniversary and the lag on two player coop was so bad I was never able to finish it with my friend. This is a problem that blew up on their forums and was never fixed. It was said because they just put the new engine on top of the old Combat Evolved code, that the lag was something they could not fix.

I am lucky and have not seen any lag yet, but enough have to say there is a problem. This is Microsoft's baby, and you could say Halo had more to do with people paying for live than anything...you would think they would spend the money and put up dedicated servers.

Hell even Epic put up the money for Gears 3....

These problems should not exist, period. The servers should've been ready and setup to handle the massive influx of users ready to play. Everyone knew the game would sell a minimum of three million copies this week and 343/Microsoft should've been prepared. Fuck, look at Bungie. They ran a public multiplayer beta test on both Halo 3 and Reach to make sure issues like these never appeared. Even when the issues presented themselves out the gate, 343 should've been quick to patch the issue. Valve does this constantly (almost daily) when and if an update bricks Team Fortress 2. When issues present themselves with a CoD title, whatever developer (Infinity Ward or Treyarch) is always up front, apologizing, and assuring the customers the fix is coming. 343 hasn't even had the balls to do that.

Whatever. I paid next to nothing for the game. I had my run with it this week and I'm more than willing to spend more time and cash on a game where a developer genuinely cares about its audience.

It's interesting there was a known lag issue with Halo:CE Anniversary. Well, let's see how the consumers will treat 343 when Halo 5 comes out next generation if these issues aren't fixed soon.

Finally got to see the "Forward Until Dawn" clip...not bad at all but was expecting a lightly different look. First half was making me wonder but the second half much better. A pretty good story. no spoilers but if anything it was the Cadet Uniforms that left a bit more desired.

I really am sorry to hear that you and others have experienced issues. I haven't, personally, but then I don't play much competitive multiplayer (about 10 matches so far, I'd guess). But to think that it'll make the slightest dent in sales of the first next-gen Halo title is a bit much.

No lag here either in the 6 or so hours I've put in multiplayer so far. Sounds like Chmiel is just beating that COD fanboy drum ;)

I'm just giving you shit Chmiel, but just an FYI to everyone else, I'm not running wireless either. So maybe that has something to do with it?

I've had major lag/connection issues while playing co-op with a buddy who lives 5 blocks from me the last 4 days, starts skipping and getting choppy and then one of us gets completely booted We've had to redo 2 levels because of it and it sucks.

It's also said the Halo 4 servers are down for me all weekend but I can still get 3 or 4 games in War Games before getting booted. They really dropped the ball with multiplayer connections.

This game is fucking amazing. My nephew and I finished the campaign this morning [on normal]. Did Spartan-Ops later on in the day, it was cool wanted more missions. And the multiplayer is just so damn fun; faster, perks, newer better weapons, Care packages. We even tried BIG Team slayer which I never really tried on REACH 'cause the maps were too big and boring for me, but here it's just frantic fun with vehicles and shit and was never bored. Also playing both Slayer's we can try more maps than the same 4 on each play mode. The game does really need more maps! Bring on more of them and the rest of Spartan-ops

oh and had no problems playing online at all other than the usual but not often looking for new host.

Same here. Major lag in Spartan Ops and coop campaign. No lag at all in matchmaking Wargames (MP). Starts to get laggy and we get dropped and have to start over.

From what I've read so far about it, some think it is input lag and the way the servers are set up to process the instructions. May also have something to do with the enemy AI instructions that need to get passed as well. I'm not a network techie so I'm sure my explanation is not accurate.

We have lag on coop when my friend hosts, but not when I do. That's been true of the last few Halo games for us though.

So I was in WalMart earlier and decided to grab some Doritos. Grabbed some of the Halo bags for 2xp. I wander around another isle to continue my shopping and there's a guy with a half dozen bags in his cart. He was taking a photo of all the codes(they're on the outside of the bag) and putting the bags back. What a dick.

With the lag on 343's last game, a lot of people were saying it was your upload speed that caused the lag, not download speed. There were a lot of people who would say they have 30 download speed on a speed test, so they did not understand the lag. The thing is, it is not the upload speed that is the problem, but that fact that a lot of people get a delay when uploading before the full speed kicks in. If you go to an online speed test you may get 80 or even 100% of the speed you pay for. You will also notice the little chart while doing the test shoots up real quick. A lot of people though will get 1/10th or even less of the upload speed during the first second or so of the upload part of the test. After that slow start it will usually speed up to your paid for speed. Your provider is cheating a bit on this, and only giving you the full speed if it thinks you are needing it (or doing a test..lol)..

So 343 does things a bit different with online games than other developers...requiring more information during the game, or only doing that upload in spurts which causes your upload speed to fluctuate.

Matthew Chmiel 11-12-12 08:33 PM

Re: Halo 4

I have a constant upload speed of anywhere from 3 - 5 mbps. I've played Counter-Strike: GO, MW3, and Team Fortress 2 in addition to Halo 4 this week. Halo 4 is the only game that I've had lag with.

If a handful of people are having an issue with lag, it's an issue with the user.

If hundreds of people are complaining about lag it's an issue with the servers.

I haven't had a chance to play today (i.e. specifically download Episode 2 of Spartan Ops) due to running of errands, but I'll get the chance to tonight and see if 343 has updated anything server wise.

Halo 4 Makes $220 Million in 24 Hours

Halo 4 earned $220 million worldwide during its first 24 hours on sale. According to Microsoft, Halo 4 saw the biggest launch of any Halo game ever and is on track to make $300 million in its first week. Microsoft called the first day sales “the biggest entertainment launch of the year to date,” out-grossing the first 24 hours of The Avengers and beating the biggest single-day film debut of all time, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2.

Microsoft reports that the launch pushes the franchise to $3.38 billion in lifetime earnings. Halo 4 also saw more players than ever online, with 4 million in its first five days. 31.4 million hours were spent playing, pushing the franchise past five billion hours to date.

“We’re thrilled that Halo 4 has emerged as the biggest U.S. entertainment launch of the year,” said Microsoft Studios corporate vice president Phil Spencer. “Thanks to the millions of fans worldwide who helped make this another record-breaking launch for the Halo franchise, Halo 4 is kicking off a strong holiday season and has become the must-have blockbuster experience of the year.”

Exactly my thought when I read it this morning.

Middle of Chapter 6, playing in Heroic, around 10 hours so far. I love this game, the flow is just perfect.

And comparing the sales to The Avengers would be more impressive if movie tickets cost $60

if movie tickets cost 60 bucks, no one would go (or a lot less would)..and if Halo 4 cost 15 new it would sale a lot more.....so it is still a fair comparison. I spend way more than 60 anyway when I take my kids to the movies...
