I have 3 kids that game (as well as myself). Last year we bought them like 17 games, and some never got played. This year we just bought the releases we wanted as they came out. This year, the only games we got them were:

Saint's Row the 3rd
Halo: CE Anniversary
Each got 2 1600 point cards

My one son already had a 3DS, and my other 2 got one for xmas this year, they each got:

Mario Kart 7
Mario 3D Land
some kind of Dogs/cats game

Also got my oldest an iPad2, and my youngest an iTouch. Now they're all evened up, lol.

I buy most things as they come out; these were just some of the recent ones I didn't pick up while going to town on Dark Souls and Skyrim the last two months.

A new 360 with Kinect bundle from my girlfriend, to replace my old dead 360 that she originally got my for christmas back in 2006. No new games, other then Kinect Adventures and Carnival Games, but I didn't really need anything new.

I got a copy of You Don't Know Jack for the 360, but that's it for games. I had already gotten all the new releases anyway. My wife saw it cheap and knew I didn't have it.

Just Skyrim but honestly after the roughly half a dozen games I got from Thanksgiving until Christmas due to everything from clearance to Black Friday sales, it was more than enough. Theoretically, I could buy no games for the next 6 months (doubtful, I know) and be just fine with backlog and the last month or so.

I buy every game I want when it comes out...so it is always hard this time of year because my kids want to buy me games...so I give them a list of games I really don't want, but will play...

Every day I find a game I'm remotely interested in for a good price is Christmas to me, so nobody buys me games.

For my kids this holiday I did pick up a few things:
My 5 year-old son got Once Upon a Monster and two Skylander sets (Terrafin is awesome, BTW). He also got a Skylanders t-shirt from his aunt that he may never take off again.
My 10 year-old daughter got Kinect Disneyland Adventures and Lego Harry Potter Years 5-7. I know I essentially overpaid for that Lego game at $29.99 since it'll be $20 or less soon enough, but hey, it's Christmas.

So disappointing the only thing gaming related I got this year was a 3 month Xbox Live membership card from a secret santa thing at work :( I guess it's at least something I'll use and is better than getting a crappy game...but still!

A used copy of Battlefield: Bad Company and I was surprised. I don't really buy a lot of video games for myself, in the first place.

I usually do the same, but after a couple of years of just reselling those games unplayed I've learned my lesson.

I never ask for games since with the sales/whatnot that always happen I know I will get the games cheaper than my family can get them for. So I just use any cash/gift cards they get me for the games I want. That being said, I picked up yesterday from the 30% Hastings sale used the following for $16 shipped for the 360.

Between the wife and I, we got 4000 Wii points so we'll be getting some Wii goodies. I got her Harvest Moon for the DS.

I also rarely ask for games because I don't want people paying high prices. My wife "gave" me the Arkham City (PS3) I bought on Cyber Monday :D.

I've been cutting back on games because I still have a backlog so everything else was for the kids (went a little nuts with the BF deals):

Madden 12, Star Wars The Force Unleashed, and the Goldeneye Reloaded bundle (with the move system). All for the PS3.

I've not yet given them the Goldeneye game, I was saving that for one of my son's birthday which is in early January.

I got Gears of War 3, Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, and Saints Row 3. I too have the problem where I don't want people to pay full price for me, but this year I sent my wife a link to the Best Buy sale from a few weeks ago where those three combined came out to be $75 bucks or so. I told her if she didn't get it for me I'd do it myself. Which worked out for me!

My son got A Boy and His Blob and Epic Mickey for Wii, and Skylanders for PS3. I got him two extra characters for Xmas Day and I've already gone out to buy him more :)

My daughter got Once Upon a Monster and Toy Story 3, though she's not excited about Toy Story 3 because she doesn't like the monkey in the movie.

So lots of new games in the house this weekend.
