Re: Fortnite

I have it installed, but I still haven't played it. I have seen some clips with these players building forts incredibly fast, and it is very off-putting. I must be getting old where I don't feel like mastering that aspect of the game to become good.

When I played Fortnite on the PS4 I rarely built anything. Of course, on the rare occasion when I made it to the later stages of the game I was at a disadvantage, but it was still fun. Last few games playing on the Switch (oh, thanks Sony for making me start all over, jerks!!) I actually tried more building and it's a lot easier than it looks. All I did was jump to a less populated area to gather resources and just started building ramps at first until I could do it quickly. I think the key thing to wrap your head around is that you can immediately move on to the next piece as soon as the building process starts. I've made it to the top 15 more consistently now that I do some building.

Re: Fortnite

I havent played Fortnite in a while, but is there still just the one map?

If the 'late battle frantic building' doesnt appeal to you, you might give PUBG a try.

Still just one map, but it is constantly evolving.

Re: Fortnite

I got this at the urging of my kids and boy do I suck at it. I'm dead a few minutes into every game. I wish there was some kind of training level to show me just what the hell I need to do

Re: Fortnite

I downloaded this on the Switch for my daughter and she says that she is unable to kill anyone. She says that she can unload a gun on someone and do nothing and then they just kill her. Is this game really like that?

Re: Fortnite

Yeah, the barrier to entry on this game is quite high, especially since it's been out on one platform or another for months now. All I can suggest is sticking with it as it does get better.

It would be nice if there was a training mode or even skill based match making. I can only imagine how bad the people are that I kill because I consider myself to be trash, lol.

Re: Fortnite

^^ Probably to some degree. I know my kids love this game and they know the spots to land and find their initial guns. So my guess is that the better players get their hands on the serious fire power and your daughter had a weak pistol. I tried playing and end up running around weapon-less for a good majority of time. I don't find the game fun at all.

Edit: I'm also told that building walls and barriers quickly is the key to being good.

Yep!
I will regularly get the jump on some and start unloading on him for him to just turn and shoot and I am instantly dead. People have to be using some kind of auto aim hack or something. The game is becoming less fun by the day.

Re: Fortnite

My son was in a video game programming class this week, and of course most people in the class play Fortnite (often during the class :/). So now he's playing it. He said "I played three hours before getting my first kill."

I requested he a) not get addicted, b) don't play when he should be doing something else [school] and c) don't fall into the microtransaction trap.

[crankyoldman] I watched over his shoulder - entirely NOT my kind of game. [/crankyoldman]
Good luck to those of you playing, especially NOOOOOOBS.

Re: Fortnite

I still haven't tried this game yet. Has the ship sailed? Am I going to get my ass kicked constantly if I start trying now?

Re: Fortnite

Unless you are in your prime as far as reflexes and are already good at shooters, then yes you will get it handed to you on the reg.

Re: Fortnite

Bought a Switch yesterday and it took me 3 tries to get a win. Compared to 2 wins in 200 matches on PS4 (I’m not good). Playing on there with the Pro controller is much easier because the playerbase hasn’t figured everything out and mastered it yet like they have on other consoles and a lot of them are using the joycons.

Re: Fortnite

I thought PS4 didn't have cross platform play? Today I was playing and for the first time it said cross platform in the upper right. Also, two guys in my squad had a PC icon and a Mobile icon next to their names.

Re: Fortnite

PS4 can crossplay with PC and Mobile, just not with Xbox and Switch.

Re: Fortnite

I finally got around to trying this. Played one match, 50 v 50. Got on the ground, got some guns, fell off a steep incline and had to crawl around until someone revived me, got one assist and then the game ended and our team won. Then I deleted it

I'm glad I'm not the only o0ldy on here. I don't get this game. It just throws you into it without any kind of tutorial or even explanation of what you're supposed to do. I'm even pretty decent at a lot of shooters.

That's partly why I love it, it's like The Hunger Games

And not to be a dick, but in this age of the Internet there's no reason to not at least have a basic grasp of what to do. Plus there is a sandbox mode now available to practice in.

Re: Fortnite

I downloaded this and Apex Legends and played a few hours of each yesterday. I am not very good at this. I don't understand how some people are sniping me from crazy far off distances.... Somehow I ended up ranked 1st in some team battles since I just ran around exploring and avoided dying. I ended up only dying once or twice, but I didn't get any kills. I don't know why I was getting ranked 1st out of 60 people....
