re: The Last of Us (PS3 and PS4)
It just occurred to me that this will probably be in a redbox near me.
Might have to get it on a Saturday morning and make a day of it...or at least give it a go on the cheap to see how annoyed I am by the stealth gameplay. Arkham Asylum was the only game to ever get stealth right...where you are hunting dudes who are afraid of you rather than fearing the game over screen the first time you step on a fucking twig. |
I'm halfway through the game and really liking it. The visuals are amazing of course. The story is top notch. AI is laughable at best though.
The voice acting has been great too. |
I'm playing on Normal, and although I suck at stealth I'm doing fine so far. It's not hard to stealth like Dishonored.
If you like to scavenge around you shouldn't have too many issues with the game. |

Maybe he means the people that travel with you. Their AI is terrible.

re: The Last of Us (PS3 and PS4)
I've been liking the game more, but man the stealth is still shit in this game. Like others have mentioned, the AI for the other people that are with you is just flat out horrible. Nothing pulls you out of the game more than being all stealthy, and then your dumbass friend is just walking around like a tard and the enemy just completely ignores them (which is good, since the AI is so terrible, it would be extremely frustrating if they were to attack them). I also don't like how easily the enemy is able to home in on you.
It's become a lot more fun though once I got more weapons. I haven't really needed to play as stealthy as before, since I just seem to have tons of different ways to kill guys. |

I really loved this game but I must say I was disappointed this part of the game didn't play out like in this trailer. Particularly the final part.

I haven't had problems with the stealth much at all.

Here's a good read from Scientific American about the science behind the infection in this game. I would quote it for the lazy, but the images are an important part of the write-up.

I'm really loving this game. I'm about 5 hours in. The story s fantastic. I usually don't lie stealth games, but the combat is intense. Every fight seems like a big deal. My only gripe is that I get lost in the levels from time to time. I had that issue with Uncharted too though.

Do you mean the enemy begging you not to shoot them? That does happen. It happened to me about 3 times during the game.

Really? All I got was them begging me when I had them in a strangle hold. But I did see Ellie jump a few guys with her knife.
I mean, it only happened about three times during the game and it was always after I had killed everyone else and was just stalking the last guy down. But it definitely happened. |
re: The Last of Us (PS3 and PS4)
Yeah, it happens when it's the last guy and you get him. The first time I let him live, and then he tried to kill me. Ellie saved me. Second time I didn't listen to his pleas.

Well. I'm out. Too much stealth for me. Spent an hour repeating the same section over and over and said fuck it. Already dumped on half.com.

Yeah, I was surprised when it happened, since I didn't remember that trailer. One guy even broke down and started crying. I felt kinda bad about shooting him in the face anyway. :D

This was almost me about a week ago, but I'm really glad I stuck with it. I'm betting I can even guess which section you're talking about.

re: The Last of Us (PS3 and PS4)
If you are not good at stealth games, and you get stuck in some parts, just "cheat". You know how the AI is not that good in some parts? I basically just ran around, yeah, the thing you are not suppose to do in a stealth game.
Other than that, use all your weapons, setup traps, use all your different kind of bombs, be patient. And in some parts you can just hide and not fight, and you can advance. BTW, I talked about this yesterday, and I want to thank everyone for not spoiling the scene for me. Spoiler:
Unless they screw up the finale, I may consider this game above BI, but great stories, but LOU more emotional, and that's good for me. |

Ditto. For me it was the section when you first find a clicker, I think it was a couple clickers and a couple of the other guys. I just don't have the patience for dying over and over. Luckily I made it through that, and I've been enjoying it quite a bit, even with all its flaws.

That's the area. 'Bout 3.5-4 hours in? But yeah, even up to that point there wasn't a single section I got through without being seen, so it was going to be a long ass and irritating game for me if I continued.

re: The Last of Us (PS3 and PS4)
I finished this last night on my first playthrough (Hard). I think for most of the game, it felt like an 8/10 experience...fun but with repetitive gameplay and a lot of groan-inducing plot cliches. But maybe the last third or so I would bump up to 9/10 as it gets a lot better and the game really clicked for me (no pun intended). I would definitely consider this as one of the best looking games of the generation.
Not sure if this was the case for anybody else, but this was the first game I've played where no trophies popped until the end of the game. I didn't earn anything until then, looks like the rest are mostly related to collectables and multiplayer. |
