I guess I wouldn't say its the most disappointing game of the year. I feel kind of let down by it. Maybe its the maps in the multiplayer. I have a few favorites in COD4, MW2 and Black Ops. But this one, I really don't have a favorite.

I do like the single player missions in most, if not all of the COD games.

Guess I should have read this thread earlier. Finished MW3 on Reg. & Hardened and was bored so I picked up Rage for $34 at GS (then it immediately went to $30 & then $25 on amazon--great) AND Battlefield3 for $35. Started Rage, not B3, and it's way slower than the title and back cover had implied. Does it get better? Feels a lot like Borderlands but so far not in a fun way.

Daggerdale, never even got it due to the poor reviews.

I'll have to say L.A. Noire, mainly because I've only played a handful of 2011 games (been catching up on my backlog of unplayed games for much of this year). I liked it for awhile, but by the time I got to the Arson desk I was completely burned out. :) I took a break from it and still haven't went back.

Same for me, man. I was so hyped for this game. I loved the conversation system in Mass Effect and how the choices affect the game and storyline. I was expecting the same kind of experience in LA Noire, but it was nothing more than an on rails adventure game where the interrogations really had no affect on the story.

Brink has to be the biggest bomb of the year. Stores now can't even give it away at $9.99 lol

I would say Saints Row The Third as well.

Why Saints Row the Third? It was actually my pleasant surprise of the year. Never played Saints Row. Hated Saints Row 2. But think the new one is incredibly fun.

My biggest disappointment is probably with Rage. Got bored halfway through and never even finished it.

Dead Island would be second. Had so much fun with this at first and then just got completely tired of it.

MW3:

Sloppy, haphazard story.
No significant game play evolutions.
Multiplayer that is a major step back from previous installments.

MW3 for me too.

-The campaign is almost a rail shooter
- Multiplayer is unplayabale for me due to the horrible lag compensation "feature"
- When I'm on the right side of the lag compensation, the maps are still really bad compared to MW2.

Probably Rage or Batman for me. I had really high expectations for both and for me they were just ok.
I guess Batman would win this one because all of the reviews I read right before release were 9-10 range and was expecting perfection (since that is what a 10 is right?). I loved Asylum so I don't know what it was exactly that rubbed me the wrong way.
Surprise for me was Dead Island. Ended up logging a lot of hours in to that one.

I'd have to go with L.A. Noire.

Probably Rage for me, althugh I could probably find a couple other deservinng titles if I really thought about it.

I think I played maybe three hours of the game and found myself tremendously bored with it. I've still got it but I doubt that I'll ever finish it.

For me, it just wasn't fun.

Phenomenal production values, but just bland in general, and I love old school adventure games.

I am going with the new xbox dashboard as the biggest disappointment of 2011...

as for games...one game makes both my biggest disappointment and biggest surprise/most underrated game...

Duke, because of ALL the wait and hype and build up...it is a disappointment

and Duke...because in NO way is this a 4 out of 10 game...its actually ugly but a lot of fun...

For me personally, the entire thing felt like a total chore. The whole thing felt incredibly restrained with its mission structure and the lack of interaction with the world they created. It probably didn't help that the only Rockstar game i've played was Red Dead Redemption and that I was expecting something at that level. But oh well. I know some people here actually liked it...

The game looks amazing. They really nailed the setting and style. Unfortunately, they forgot to include the fun. The whole game was kind of a chore to play, especially the interrogation portions. And for feeling like it was supposed to be an open-world game, it felt very linear.

Re: Biggest disappointment of 2011?

I would have preferred it be completely linear a la Heavy Rain than what it was.

LA:N probably tops my list for this year too. I don't play many games anymore but I was really looking forward to this one. I traded it in before making it through the first disc. I can't place the exact reason but, as others have said, it just wasn't fun.

If they had worried less about their facial tech and made the gameplay better than I think it could have been awesome. As it was, it was just an "ohh pretty" on the facial features.
