Metal Gear Solid 5 (or Metal Gear 5olid)

My love of this franchise has greatly diminished over the years (though I still think MGS3 was great) mainly due to the horrid writing and never-ending monologues but I figured some here would appreciate this bit of news:

First details of the project are revealed in the upcoming issue of the Official PlayStation Magazine UK, where Kojima himself discusses plans for Metal Gear Solid 5 and the recently teased Project Ogre.

The issue hits newsstands on November 29, though excerpts from the interview are said to be available online sometime next week.

So the question is... will it be coming for PS3 or PS4?

Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima has admitted his studio will "probably have to make" Metal Gear Solid 5 "at some point".

Speaking in the latest issue of Official PlayStation Magazine UK - on sale November 29 - the Kojima Productions man said of MGS5: "I think we'll probably have to make it at some point, but what that will be, we have no idea".

Once again downplaying his involvement in any future Metal Gear project, Kojima added: "As far as my involvement in the project is concerned, [it] probably won't be as much as it was with MGS1 - maybe I can do just one stage! For MGS1 I made the maps myself, laid out the enemy routes myself, did everything hands-on - that level I can't do again."

Of course, any fan worth his salt will point out that's exactly what Hideo said about MGS4 - and then he made it anyway.

The creator explained: "I intended to take it to a certain point and then hand it off, but that didn't work, because it's hard to convey the concept to other people then have them take the reins and carry on and preserve that vision."

His solution then is to not get involved at all, he said. "That's why it's easier to have them come up with everything from the start and then take it to the end."

The Kojima issue of OPM UK is out on November 29 and subs issues should be going out next week.

You can now get Official PlayStation Magazine UK on Apple Newsstand, either as a single issue or through a 3, 6 and 12 month subscriptions available. You can also get Official PlayStation Magazine UK on Zinio as well, so you are full covered for all your digital reading needs. And the paper edition's also available in the shops and through a number of subscription offers.

Which part? The cinematic that led up to the final boss fight or the actual final boss fight? If the former, it was a pretty badass moment amidst a sea of mediocrity. If the latter, the only emotion I felt was disappointment and irritation because of how crappy it was and how horrible the control scheme was.

Metal Gear Solid V is Kojima's first next-gen FOX Engine game, developer reveals (update: video)

Kojima Productions head Hideo Kojima this morning announced that The Phantom Pain and Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes combined is actually Metal Gear Solid V, the first next-gen game from Kojima Productions running on its powerful FOX Engine. The news was revealed today during a FOX Engine panel at the Game Developers Conference. Kojima announced the combination of the previously announced concepts in a dramatic fashion, with his head wrapped in bandages, presumably as his alter ego Joakim Mogren. They provided a sneak peek trailer at the game's opening sequence, where Snake is attempting to escape from a hospital -- the trailer previously teased in late 2012. As FOX Engine is a next-gen platform, we're assuming that the game is heading to next-gen consoles, but Kojima's not saying anything solid just yet.

Update: GamesHQMedia managed to snag a trailer of the game, which we've embedded below.

Ground Zeroes and Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain are separate games despite what the report says.

That was really cool. You can do a lot of stuff you can't do in Ground Zeroes.

Re: Metal Gear Solid 5 (or Metal Gear 5olid)

That's from some months ago. I'm amazed it wasn't posted here yet. I'm still loving this franchise. Really liked GZ. Wasn't worth the price it came out w/ but whatever sale I got it from on PSN made it worth it, granted... it was for my PS3.

I got GZ for PC and am loving it. Lots to do in that little sandbox. I can't wait to get my hands on TPP.

Re: Metal Gear Solid 5 (or Metal Gear 5olid)

Apparently if you die a lot or struggle in a certain area of the game... it will give you an option to make it easier at a price of sorts. Big Boss will be forced to wear a chicken hat should you go for the easy option. looks like it even crosses over into the cutscenes too.. Seems like he made it to help out the inexperienced players.

<iframe width="853" height="480" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/yHt9MHkVWXM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

I'm reading though that it possibly doesn't affect achievements/trophies which is kind of sad too. I usually prefer things like to lock those things down when you get an option like that.

Re: Metal Gear Solid 5 (or Metal Gear 5olid)

Didn't one of the Devil May Cry games do this first? Not the chicken hat but unlocking a easy mode for players who demonstrate they really suck at the game.

Re: Metal Gear Solid 5 (or Metal Gear 5olid)

Yes. You had to die like 3 times in the normal mode. Then you would accept it but never be able to move up the difficulty ever even in the new game plus mode. Some other games have done it too. I can't remember which ones though.

I remember that and thinking that that was funny and it pissed me off too cuz the game was calling you out on you sucking. Fuck. DMC was an awesome challenge. DMC3 rocked like a motherfucker though. Fuck. My fav DMC.
