I stopped by Target. A few figures I haven't seen before were there -- S2 Stealth Elf, Terrafin, Lightning Rod and the Shroom Boom Light Core figure. No new Giants though.
Also they are selling the Portal Owner's packs for $29.99 each, which is the cheapest I've seen them yet.

May have to look for the Light Core - my grandson wants one of those and has the money...

My guess is that the Portal Owner's packs are not selling well considering that you get 2 more characters *and* a spare portal for less than the cost of the 2 characters alone when purchasing the "regular" package. I just don't see why anyone would want the Portal Owners pack at the "regular" price. They should have made that package the game and 3 figures leaving only the portal out and sell it for the current price.

Yeah, Ninjini isn't out yet.

I would take the Portal Owners pack. We just got the first game, so I don't need a backup portal. And we already have Cynder, so the only thing I'm really getting is Jet-Vac. Target isn't even listing the Portal Owner's pack on their website anymore. I am going to go look and see if I can find any at that price!

There were signs all over the Skylanders section advertising the sale price.

do they have a portal owners pack for Wii U yet? I have the portal from the first game for Wii which is supposed to work fine on Wii U. When i check a month or so ago, they did not sell a portal owners Wii U pack

My daughter picked up a lightcore Shroom Boom a week or so ago at Walmart. It's actually a pretty neat lightcore with his eye glowing white, and the mushroom glowing green.

And I *still* don't quite understand the draw for the Light Core figures. The *hit* they deliver when entering a level is nice to have but it's only the first time they are placed on the portal in a level. Do it too early and you wasted a possibly needed help during a melee/boss battle. Several look pretty cool all lit up on the portal, but once you're in the game you're not looking at them any longer.

Am I being *too* cynical with these? It just seems like a waste and unneeded addition that basically just adds cost to the figures.

If yours is a Series 1 Cynder then you would be getting a slight "upgrade" on the Series 2 reposed figure. Considering the typical cost of the full set is only ~$15 over the Portal Owners Pack that works out to ~$5 for that extra Cynder. IMHO it's worth the extra couple $$. The Series 2 reposed figures have the ability to swap upgrade path on a whim (although I think this costs in-game gold but don't know as we've not tried this yet) and a (IMHO mostly lame) "Wow Pow" upgrade. With *some* figures it's nice to have duplicates on different upgrade paths. I picked up several Series 1 figures from Amazon during some BF Lightning Deals to do just that.

People might just like the pose or light up effect. I buy them because I want to collect all the figures.

Eye Brawl and Thumpback were back in stock at GameStop.com an hour ago and I got an order in, so just keep checking the site regularly if they show out of stock.

Just found one copy of each at my local Target at lunch so I grabbed them. Eye Brawl looks at little chintzy, but Thumpback is a nicely detailed figure -- it looks sweet! Unfortunately, the store's display didn't work so I was unable to see what lights up. I assume it's the giant eye in Eye Brawl and the knuckles of Thumpback.

I also saw a Series 2 Prism Break figure. Is there anyone actually clamoring for a third pose of Prism Break besides that loser who Slylanderized his whole house?

I bought prism break #3 lol

I am not sure if it's been mentioned but supposedly walmart will have Molten Hot dog in a single pack. Not sure when it is supposed to be released though.

I don't even know what to say after reading that. I must be missing something but being able to switch the bottoms of the figures doesn't seem all that great? I guess you get to use the skills for the character you like and place it on the base of whatever element you want??

"Skylanders Swap Force, the next iteration of the console game, introduces 16 new mix and match Swap Force Skylanders, 16 new Series 3 reposed figures, 16 new core Skylanders and 8 new Light-core toys. But maybe it’s their new found ability to jump that’s the real headline here."

"The new game will also include returning 16 Series 3 Skylanders. The first two of these are Stealth Elf and Eruptor."

This is going to end up like Guitar Hero...

Maybe they should figure a way to manufacture and distribute the Giants figures appropritely before moving onto a new game and figures.
Not that I'm at all surprised by them coming out with a new game for 2013. When there's money to be made...

I was looking through their wiki page and it looks like they also did Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 so it's not all bad. It does however look like most of their work has been licensed gba / ds crap.

Edit: They also made all the skylanders ios games and the first skylanders 3ds game. I have no idea if any of those are good...

Yeah, they're almost doubling the amount of figures with the new game. It's going to be a nightmare collecting the next set.

Don't forget the first game. There are still people looking for *those* characters. From what I see in the stores and on Amazon they are growing more scarce with some almost totally MIA.

I like the idea of the new game but don't know if I can (or am willing) to tolerate *another* 32 minimum for just "new" figures of these things.

To "sell" me on this one it needs to be at least as long as the original Skylanders (longer would be better) *and* offer a wireless portal option. Say what you want about battery use we've had a very good experience with rechargeable batteries and don't want or need a wire running across the floor just to power the portal.

Krayzie 02-05-13 12:30 PM

Re: Skylanders, Anyone?

The people who are still looking for series 1 figures are screwed as they pretty much have to go on ebay now for the hard to find figures. I imagine the samething is going to happen with giants once the new game releases.

I am hoping the Disney game is decent as that seems like something even my wife would like since she loves disney movies.

From Joystiq:

Skylanders Swap Force assembles this fall, developed by Vicarious Visions

by David Hinkle Writer RSS on Feb 5th 2013 2:15AM

http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.c...ck_530x298.jpg

Skylanders proprietors Toys for Bob will step aside for the latest franchise installment, Skylanders Swap Force. Vicarious Visions is handling development this time, which Activision says will allow Toys for Bob the space and freedom to come up with their next thing.

The main toy gimmick of Skylanders Swap Force is simple: 16 new special figures have inter-connecting torsos and bottom halves. Once you've combined two pieces, you place the resulting amalgam on the portal to realize your creation within the game. I replaced the tentacle-laden bottom half of a squid with the electricity wheel of a robotic Skylander, making my new squid-machine hybrid much more agile. Tentacle feet aren't an ideal form of transportation on land.

Skylanders Swap Force is still early in development, so I wasn't able to see much in the way of gameplay – there was only one small area and a miniboss encounter, and it was a hands-off demo. Vicarious Visions has added jumping, though, one of the most requested features missing from the last two games.

Of course, Skylanders Swap Force is compatible with all the previously released Skylanders figures. Swap Force will also present 32 new core Skylanders figures – 16 are new and the rest are updated versions of older figures. Considering the potential of lost halves, Activision tells me its customer support team will be ready to help replace or otherwise assist with any issues the new figures incur.

The Skylanders Swap Force starter pack will come with a copy of Skylanders Swap Force, the new portal, two Swap characters and one standard Skylander. Old portals from Skylanders and Skylanders Giants will be incompatible with Swap Force.

Skylanders Swap Force will launch on the Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U, Wii and 3DS. The Wii version is being developed by Beenox, while the 3DS version is coming from n-Space.

Ugh. Yeah, I'm one of the ones still looking for old figures. Found just about everything reasonably except for Camo (paid $15 on ebay). Only originals I don't have that don't have a series 2 version are Boomer and Wham-shell, which are going anywhere from $25-40 on ebay right now. And Darklight Crypt keeps rising beyond the $40 range as well. Probably never going to end up getting those.

I don't like that Toys For Bob is not doing the next one. Hopefully my son will be tired of Skylanders by the time that one comes out. ;)

TRU stocked a bunch of Wham-Shell figures before X-Mas. I am guessing they might all be gone now though. I saw them on amazon the other day ~$22 shipped with prime.

Re: Skylanders, Anyone?

Yeah, no luck at the two TRU's in town. I've seen a couple on eBay go close to that price with shipping the other day. Trying to decide how high I'm willing to go for one figure...

<s>Thumpback is now in stock at Amazon.

Eye Brawl is also in stock but it doesn't show on the main product page. You have to go to the MP vendor page where Amazon is the first vendor listed.</s>

Gone!

And apparently someone who went to the big announcement in New York is shilling their "free" Ninjini for $300. Pathetic...

There are currently a few of Wham-Shell at just under $22 from MP vendors and Fulfilled by Amazon. I'd trust that over ebay. If you have a Hastings in town I'd check them as well. The store here doesn't move product as quickly as others and seems to have older stuff when others do not.

I may bite the bullet and get Wham-Shell for $22. That would just leave Boomer and the Darklight Crypt as figures we don't have...

 Those Fire Element figures are dangerous!

Speaking of which, when an Adele song came on the radio yesterday, my son noted "Hot Head can set fire to the rain! Well, he can with an upgrade". I told him I'm not sure that's what the song was really about, but who knows?
