I wonder if there will be a 3DS version of Giants? You can barely get 2 regular characters on that portal as it is.

I don't know if I even care, they have different stats sure, but they don't show up differently in game do they?

Both supposedly are more powerful than the normal ones and will feature different abilities.

So these are currently 7.99 to 8.99 for singles, and 19.99 for three-packs (25 at TRU)?

Cool. Like we speculated, new games coming. Cool. Like we speculated, new games coming. It'd be nice if the existing characters will work with the new game, but with the announcement the new game "Introduces More Than 20 New Figures" it sounds like possibly an all new investment. :(

I don't like this at all. It's bad enough that they have "exclusives" to start with but that it's TRU is like rubbing salt in the wound considering their current price gouging. I'm still fairly ticked off that the Legendary characters are apparently not going to receive wide release (if someone else knows otherwise please let us know). It also doesn't help that there's no TRU within 80 miles of where I live so it's all mail order with them.

From what I've read the Legendary characters show up differently in the game (same colors as the figures - basically gold/blue reversed) as they have *slightly* different stats. But I'm with you on the "don't know if I even care" aspect of these. I might feel different if they were widely available, but since it's at TRU they can keep 'em. It's bad enough TRU is currently engaged in price gouging but add shipping (for me) and it's a non issue. It makes me wonder just how much TRU is paying Activision for this exclusivity.

        Re: Skylanders, Anyone?

While not guaranteed, I'd think that the new game would work with the old characters... that would give the people who spent all this money on figures incentive to get the game, not feel ripped off, and get hooked on wanting the new characters. Plus it allows you to keep on printing money with the old figures.

If they're going to make limited release figures, that's the way to go, make them all recolors and not new sculpts. I'm actually surprised that all of the figures are pretty much unique sculpts outside of the exclusives... You'd figure they could cheap out by reusing molds (and way back in the thread that's what I thought they were doing)

And I just read that "All characters from Skylanders: Spryo's Adventures will be compatible with Skylanders Giants" so it's back to a :) but there'll *still* be new toys to look for at what I'm sure will be higher prices (especially at TRU). :(

With tax and shipping we've spent ~$225 on the...
        • Mega Pack (Game, Original three pack, extra three pack, Pirate Seas Adventure Pack)
        • Darklight Crypt (Adventure Pack)
        • 6 single character packs
        • 3 three character packs
... and who knows how much I'll spend to get the rest. ;)

So there are 16 new characters... 8 Giants and 8 regulars (probably one per element).

Bullet points from the press release...
        • Going Big: Skylanders Giants introduces eight new highly collectible figures that are more than twice the size of the main skylanders cast in both physical and virtual form. Their in-game powers and abilities reflect their colossal scale.
        • Bright Lights: Helping to further the real world magic of bringing toys to life, Skylanders Giants includes a set of characters that feature spectacular new light technology integrated into the toys, allowing the figure to light up when near or on the Portal of Power™. These characters have additional in-game benefits as well. Batteries are not required.
        • Brand New Skylanders: Eight new regular sized skylanders, each with their own unique powers, abilities, and personality, join the adventure alongside the Giants.
        • Forward Compatibility: Every beloved character from Skylanders Spyro's Adventure is 100% compatible with Skylanders Giants, leveled-up stats and customizations intact.
        • Wider Worlds: Portal Masters will see all new arenas and more gameplay options in Battle Mode for exciting head-to-head play, as well as enhanced Elemental Zones, new Hero Challenges, and other features that encourage players to collect and level up every character.

It's just like Rock Band/Guitar Hero - buy the first game and songs, buy the next game and new songs but the old ones still work, etc.

So, I wonder if the current set of characters will be able to go beyond the powers they have now. I would believe that continuing to collect treasure, even after a character is completely powered up, is of some benefit then.
It would be nice if they had another Soul Gem to aquire.

It didn't? I switched to Rock Band after GH:3 but I assumed they did the same model.

Sorta. Guitar Hero 1-3, World Tour, 80's, Metallica, Aerosmith, & Van Halen were all stand alone games. It wasn't until GHV that they started allowing exports of some titles, IIRC. Even at that, DLC for some of them were tied to those specific games.

The Legendary pack is back in the wild. Grabbed one this morning. Meanwhile some bitch was buying 10 of them.

Toys R Us won't hold them if you call, but they'll let one person wipe out their entire stock? Makes sense to me.

I know demand outpaced supply, but seriously how are they still so short on figures? We're almost two months past Christmas and they're still in short supply.

BTW : If there's anyone here who still doesn't have the starter pack, it'll be $30 off ($39.99) for all four systems starting tomorrow at TRU and lasting the week. It's in the ad and should be eligible for price match at Target, Best Buy or Wal Mart with the Sunday ad.
