While I don't have anything against Saints Row and will actually being by "the third" - Volition has been taking shots at Rockstar for almost 2 years now - rockstar never hit back once - and as far as I'm concerned - the recent GTA V announcement was long overdue anyway - if you visit Rockstar's site you would see that GTA V comments were being deleted repeatedly on a daily basis.

So based on the photo of the Running Antelope $5 note, does this mean it's set in the early 20th century?

Re: Grand Theft Auto 5

Never heard of Saints Row. When I told a clerk at the local game store I loved sandbox games he suggested Assassin's Creed which I got all three and haven't started yet.

Is Saints Row one of those games where you have to play all of them or can I dive in on the second or third game?

I started with the second, and I didn't feel like I was missing anything, and it was a ton of fun.

Re: Grand Theft Auto 5

GTA IV was the first in the series that I finished, and I bought them all from GTA3 on. Easily my favorite.

Can't wait for V. Saints Row champions sure are adorable though...

I just want a game that's fun. I guess I'm a "Saints Row" champion, but I really felt like it trumps GTA in every sense --- and it doesn't take itself too seriously.

I can't wait to see what GTA V has in store based on how massive SRtT appears.

Re: Grand Theft Auto 5

Saints Row does a lot right, and I wish they would implement some of the SR mechanics into GTA. I'm thinking of more character customization (San Andreas did a good job), and more activities around the city. It's stupid, but I really like how in SR 1 you could buy booze and weed and it would make your screen all fuzzy. They kind of incorporated this into GTA 4 I guess. More than that though, I really liked the side missions you could do, such as robbing banks and such. I think GTA could really improve on that. GTA was limited to going on dates and stuff, which were okay options, but it would have been nice if there were more crime related things you could do.

Overall though, I definitely prefer everything about GTA over Saints Row. I like the realism, everything from the art design to the driving, to the on foot mechanics are much better in GTA IV IMO. SR is just a little too silly and over the top for me.

Plus, GTA 4 on PC with the ENB/Icenhancer mod =

I won't argue Saints Row (especially the original) is a blatant rip of the GTA formula, but to say the franchise doesn't have a single twist or innovation on that formula is flat out untrue.

Re: Grand Theft Auto 5

GTA will always be better than SR in my book if only because you can't lock the camera behind your character in SR. It is SO fucking annoying having to constantly manipulate the camera and it drags the experience way down for me.

Point out a single post of someone "chamioning" Saints Row prior to your snide remark.

Re: Grand Theft Auto 5

My issue with that Saint's Row is that it always seemed deeply outdated / uncool. Like someone who learned about "the streets" by watching Naughty By Nature videos.

McDonald's never acknowledges Burger King. Coke never acknowledges Pepsi.

They don't have to. Same with Rockstar.

I'm HONESTLY not trying to add to the SR vs. GTA feud. Someone said it was a "dick move" when it wasn't at all.....now if GTA puts anything in game about SR.....well that's a compeltely different thing altogether now ain't it.

I can't believe anyone preferred the driving mechanics in GTAIV over SR2. I guess GTAIV was more realistic, but it certainly was much less fun to drive in that game.

Once you learn how to power brake......it never gets old.

Re: Grand Theft Auto 5

Which one are you referring to? The power braking didn't help me much in GTAIV unless you drove a supercar if I remember correctly. Anything with any weight would put me on the sidewalk and through a telephone pole.

Driving was fine in GTA IV. I loved SR II, and can't wait for SR III, but GTA will always be the better game.

Excited for GTA V though.

Listen, I don't care if the Saints Row games don't look as good, play as good or have the polish of GTA....when you are doing an escort mission with your friend in Co-Op...and he has to do sexual moves on a client while you are driving the wrong way into oncoming traffic...and he is doing a mini game to pull off these sexual moves, many with great names...and you are both laughing hard as hell as he makes you promise never to tell anyone what he is doing....THAT is why I play games...to have fun...

This. Saints is fun and over the top. So was GTA III and Vice City. Then along came SA and IV and it started taking itself more serious.

Though I still play both, Saints is more 'fun'
