I'm down for the PC or PS4 version. As much as I love my Switch, the sticks on the joycons are kind of dogshit. They just don't feel tight enough for this game.

Meh. I'd rather have a Demon Souls remake.

The online servers for Demons is getting shutdown next month . Maybe a sign for an upcoming remaster?

I've been playing this for the last week or so (remastered), and I can see why so many claim it is the best entry (I think I liked 3 a little more) but man screw the Tomb of Giants.

Re: Official Dark Souls Support Group - Spoilers Inside

My eyes adjusted after Undead Berg and it looks fine now, but it's still very much a PS3 game running at a higher resolution and faster framerate. Anor Londo still looks great though and the framerate never hiccups.

Edit: Yep that was lots of fun, though I skipped most of the DLC. Off to DS2.

Re: Official Dark Souls Support Group - Spoilers Inside

This entry seemed way less vague than DS3 or Demons Souls but am I right in interpreting
Spoiler:
lighting the final bonfire after defeating Gwyn maintains the age of lords/fire and you are the new leader, and leaving the bonfire unlit basically brings upon the age of dark/dawn of man (without the interference of the lords)?

Re: Official Dark Souls Support Group - Spoilers Inside

Do you have to play these in order? I have 3 and thinking of jumping into, but reviews and what I saw of remastered 1 looked real good. I mean the punishingly difficult they keep mentioning, it just seems you got to learn to time and dodge from onset. I can do that. I’ve done that in other games. I’m sure not to this level, but it’s basically time correctly, then dodge, then batter away. Rinse, repeat. No? Challenging, but got to go in knowing not just brawl, but got to dodge and use some noodle it seems.
is 1 the best? It looked really darn good. Just want to do this up right.

And what’s with the Tomb of Giants?

Don’t really have interest in part 2 for some reason.

And Rich, it only took a week to beat? I thought this was an arduous, fun, but long journey. Thx.

Re: Official Dark Souls Support Group - Spoilers Inside

I haven't been going out much lately. I would say I played it over 2 weeks.

Dark Souls 3 takes place long after Dark Souls 1 and the ties are subtle - character references via item descriptions mostly. You end up visiting some of the same places in both with DS3 seemingly occurring millenia later. But yeah, I picked up 3 with no problem, they are lore heavy games if you want them to be but the plots themselves are pretty standalone.

Dark Souls 2 is kind of its own thing from what I can tell, but I've only played about an hour.

If you do play em be sure you're online, it changes the dynamic a lot and generally for the better.

Re: Official Dark Souls Support Group - Spoilers Inside

Thanks Rich. Both seem great though (1: remastered and 2) and great reviews, so…decisions. I don’t want to jump into 3 if I’m going to go all in and get first 2.

Re: Official Dark Souls Support Group - Spoilers Inside

I was surprised at the number of people online for remastered, fewer than 3 to be sure but still quite a few. Didn't start getting invaded until I was high enough to handle it so that was also a perk.

Re: Official Dark Souls Support Group - Spoilers Inside

So, just to be clear, the difficulty is not “punishingly difficult”? I mean I don’t mind if a game is hard. I die a lot in many games, but figure out how to beat whatever is troubling me not after too long or too too many deaths. I just don’t want to buy, be so tough and frustrating that I never want to see another ounce of a Dark Souls game…

Re: Official Dark Souls Support Group - Spoilers Inside

Every difficult part in these games has an "easy way" through it, you generally just have to figure it out, with exception of one part is DS1 that made me wonder if I was going the right way or not. It's impossible to tell if you'll like it or not.

If you already own one of the titles, I'd say play that before buying more since they do all play quite similarly (albeit faster or slower depending on title)

Re: Official Dark Souls Support Group - Spoilers Inside

The difficulty is very overblown, the keys are like you said, getting good at dodging and parrying and learning the patterns of the enemies. The big key it to take your time, trying to rush through an area is a surefire way to end up dead.
And there are ways to make it easier like Rich said, you can summon help for bosses if need be or you can cheese the game with magic. I wouldn't recommend either, but that's just me, beating the game on your own is such a satisfying feeling.
And even though I haven't played 3, I would still recommend starting with 1. Greatest fucking video game ever made.

Re: Official Dark Souls Support Group - Spoilers Inside

Yeah I never actually summoned anyone, but I did use the shit out of the Crystal Halberd which occasionally feels like cheating in its own right.

Dark Souls 3 is Dark Souls 1 on steroids - similar setup, darker world (but thankfully fewer pitch black ones), darker atmosphere but also less quirkiness. I know some folks took issue with it being easier but I think that has to do more with getting used to the game series than anything - DS3 kicked my ass when I first started and DS1 was a breeze by comparison. I think the same would be true if I played them the other way around.

This all said, the experience is undoubtedly different at 60 fps than it was in the "We occasionally hit 30 fps!" era.

Re: Official Dark Souls Support Group - Spoilers Inside

The hardest Souls game is
Spoiler:
The first one you play.

After that, as RichC2 said, it gets easier.
