Re: Dead Space 3
Fuck!
Great that I waited. It was a rollercoaster of emotions for me. When it was announced I was ready to preorder, then heard about coop and decided to wait, then read some articles and was interested again, then the demo and lost interest LOL!, and then I saw a fucking commercial in TV and got excited again... but thankfully decided to wait.
Still, probably buy it when it's under $30.

Good
Dead Space 3 has some glaring problems, but the combat and the stunning presentation make it well worth playing.

Those scores are better than I expected and with Polygon's 9.5, I'm kind of upset I didn't just go for the $20 amazon credit since the game jumped up on my radar. It was low because, while I loved the first two, I wasn't thrilled by the demo and I've been bitten too often recently with "sequel-sameness". Oh well, I'll wait for the price drop in a few weeks or the next big B2G1 deal.

Looks like this will be a Red Box rental for me.

7.9 right now on metacritic...we need a few more high 8's so the average will get up to low 8's validating my god-like prediction powers ...

Re: Dead Space 3
The first hour of the game, and I was really getting worried. It was not bad, it just was NOT dead space. Now that I am 2 hours in I am calming down a bit. It feels like Dead Space again. I don't like the changes to the weapons and ammo, but this is going to be a fun game...

Maybe my expectations were low after what I'd read (or after suffering through the dreadful Assassin's Creed III), but I'm midway into Chapter 2 and I really like it. The game can still scare the crap out of you, the graphics are excellent, and it's great to be stomping some !)@#(* again. It does have a different feel to it at first, but so far, overall, I'm really liking the game.

I played the first chapter last night and it was okay. I liked the opening credit sequence. After playing Halo 4 over the last few weeks, I am not very impressed with the graphics. They look a bit more cartoony than I remember. The camera seems a little awkward and crooked and I don't remember the other DS games being like that. Could be I have forgotten though and just have to get used to it.
These games always take a few chapters until you really dig in so I am giving it the benefit of the doubt until I am at least a 1/3 of the way through.
Got the trade release of the Dead Space: Liberation in yesterday and started it after playing the first chapter. I like it and the artwork is nice. It adds a nice depth to the person you meet right at the beginning of chapter 2 of the game.
The music and sounds are what make it DS for me. I just love the sound effects for these games, from opening doors to using your guide.

Re: Dead Space 3
I don't care what reviews say nor did I bother downloading the demo because I was 100% going to buy this on day 1. I'm 5 chapters in and so far it's very much Dead Space and then some. I'm digging the new weapon system. It was a little daunting when I first got to a bench but after playing for a bit and collecting upgrades and parts it makes more sense. I also like how there's only 1 type of ammo and it works across ALL weapons (hopefully it stays that way for the rest of the game). I hated how in the first two games the necros always seemed to drop ammo for weapons I didn't have.
I'm one of the biggest Dead Space fans there is and I'm loving this game so far... not sure why it's getting bad reviews and people say "it doesn't feel like dead space". Makes me wonder if these people have even played it (other than the demo). The guys with guns is like the first 10 minutes. But it fits with the story so it works, IMO. After that first chapter it's been nothing but very Dead Space-like necro-overrun space junk. What's the problem with that?

Re: Dead Space 3
First playthrough complete. Overall I'd say I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it, despite having plenty of complaints about certain changes. It's significantly longer than the previous two games (I clocked in at 18:39), though there's so much repetition and backtracking in the game I'm not sure if that's a good thing. It is visually astounding if nothing else. I might share some more thoughts later.
