Larry C, I realize you're looking for 360 games, but if you already have a PS3, you'll be doing yourself a serious disservice to pass on these games. They're basically the cream of the crop when it comes to the type you're looking for. (Though I'd recommend going with God of War 1 first, then move on to Chains of Olympus and the rest. It sets up the origin story better, imho.)

I am going to also say X-Men Origins: Wolverine....I loved this game...combat is what you are looking for...and it has plenty of puzzles along the way...Try the demo asap...

Yep, Wolverine is under rated. Until the final boss, the game is great.
