Help with name of an old computer game?
This has been driving me nuts lately. Partly because I can't remember the name of the game, but also that I can't remember more about it. Actually I'll be shocked if anybody can get this because I remember so little about it that the description is basically worthless, but I'll give it a shot anyway.
It was either for the Apple II or Amiga, but I think it was the Apple II. All I remember is that it was some kind of spy game and the point was to stop some kind of evil guy. Throughout the game there were these robots that I kind of remember looking like R2D2 that you had to kill and at the very end of the game I think I remember being in kind of a canyon setting and the last thing you had to do was disarm this big bomb machine thing by pushing buttons or levers and making them into a certain combination--ya know like up, up, down, up, down, down or whatever it was. Does anybody have ANY clue what I'm talking about? |

I really don't think that's it though, but it's very similar. Even the robots look similar and the elevator that takes you to different levels. |

Actually another thing that just popped into my head...I think the game even had some kind of code book that was needed for the final bomb thing. I'm almost positive that you had to match up a certain code and now that I think about it, there weren't any levers, but more like buttons...I want to say red and green buttons or maybe red and black or green and black buttons that you had to put in a certain combination and that would disarm the bomb. I also know that the robots got significantly harder as the game went on and you were able to shoot them. At the beginning of the game, the robots were easy to kill but by the end it was much harder to kill them and it was probably easier to just avoid them. Like I mentioned before, there was also an elevator that would bring you to the different parts of the game. Similar to Impossible Mission you had to take an elevator up and down and you had to remember which level to get off on. For example the final bomb thing was hard to find because you had to get off on the right level and it's even possible that there was a "dummy" bomb that wasn't the real thing so you had to bypass that one to get to the real one. Oh and I also remember the guy you play as had some kind of suit on with a helmet.

Impossible Mission 2?
|
Re: Help with name of an old computer game?
the only other game I can think of is Infiltrator, but your description really is more like Impossible Mission...there was a master system game in the late 80s called zillian or zillion that was also like what you describe.

Re: Help with name of an old computer game?
Definitely not Machinarium or Infiltrator or Zillion. And I'm about 98% sure it's not Impossible Mission or Impossible Mission 2 either. Even though just looking at youtube clips of that game, it's similar, but I just don't think it's the game I'm thinking of.
It's driving me nuts and starting to piss me off that I can't remember it. I used to play it all the time and was one of the few games I was actually able to finish. |

are you sure you are not combining two games from the past...or even more games? I have found myself doing that....especially for games I played more than 30 years ago....
But yeah it's definitely possible that after all these years I'm mashing together memories of numerous games. It's really the end of this game that I remember the most. I just remember walking up to this machine type thing and there are maybe 5 or 6 "sections" and the player need to press a button or make the section a certain color or something and then you physcially move your guy over an inch and do the same thing again in the next "section" of the machine. I know it's not much to go on and I might just have to accept that I'll never figure it out, but it's irritating. |

sounds like impossible mission 2

Re: Help with name of an old computer game?
if you have a solid image in your mind of how the last part of the game looked, try drawing it with paint shop...even if it sucks it might help...and then post it here...

Whoa, I think my drawing would make even less sense than my vague description.
Groucho, nope that's not it either. |

Yeah, that has to be it. It's spot on to his description.
I remember trying to figure out an old NES game I played as a kid for years, then figured it out... because of Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World (it was Clash at Demonhead). |

Re: Help with name of an old computer game?
Wow I had a blast watching the playthrough for Captain Goodnight. I was actually surprised how close my description turned out to be. I forgot about all the vehicles and mixed a few things up but it was pretty close.
Brought back a lot of old memories. Those Apple II games were a lot of fun. Turns out the end machine thing was a little different than I was remembering. If I was going to draw something that's what I would have drawn. I could have sworn there weren't levers, but I guess it was still pretty close to what I remembered. I knew there was something to do with codes too. |
