Finished this POS last night and went to delete the install off the hard drive to realize that it doesn't have a separate save file. Not that I really case since I will never play it again, but a caution for others that might plan on keeping the game.

Gearbox, SEGA Sued Over Aliens: Colonial Marines
Class action lawsuit alleges false advertising leading up to launch.

A class action lawsuit has been filed against SEGA and Gearbox regarding Aliens: Colonial Marines. In a lawsuit obtained by Polygon, plaintiff Damion Perrine claims “that Gearbox and Sega falsely advertised Aliens by showing demos at trade shows like PAX and E3 which didn't end up being accurate representations of the final product.”

The demos were advertised as “actual gameplay” at the time, yet portrayed a level of “graphical fidelity, AI behavior and even entire levels not featured in the game.” The suit explains that by having reviews under an embargo that lifted the day of release, consumers did not have time to learn from critics about the difference in quality in the final product compared to early footage.

"Each of the 'actual gameplay' demonstrations purported to show consumers exactly what they would be buying: a cutting edge video game with very specific features and qualities," the claim argues. "Unfortunately for their fans, Defendants never told anyone — consumers, industry critics, reviewers, or reporters — that their 'actual gameplay' demonstration advertising campaign bore little resemblance to the retail product that would eventually be sold to a large community of unwitting purchasers."

The suit also points to this tweet from Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford, which acknowledges that the difference between the original demo and final game is “understood and fair and we are looking at that. Lots of info to parse, lots of stake holders to respect.”

Re: Aliens: Colonial Marines (Gearbox, Sega) - Spring 2012

That's a loser lawsuit. You can't hold a company liable for a gameplay demo that looks better than the final product. Companies always note that demos are not necessarily indicative of the final product and all the defendants in this case have to claim is that what was working in the demo on their powerful rig wasn't practical at retail because of impractically high spec requirements. I'm really surprised any law firm would take the case.
If you bought the game (my condolences, BTW), you should join the suit and maybe you'll end up getting a free copy of Borderlands 2. I once got a free camera from Kodak in a class action lawsuit after they were barred from selling any more instant developing film for their rival instant camera after losing a lawsuit with Polaroid.

While I don't think anything will come from the lawsuit, I'd still like to see Gearbox lose their fucking shirt.

Re: Aliens: Colonial Marines (Gearbox, Sega) - Spring 2012

In other news, I saw Gearbox tweet about a 'hot fix'* for the game they sent out today.
There's a bunch of tweaks for multiplayer, but only one for single player, which adjusts the difficulty of the easiest setting to be easier. Because of all the complaints I've heard of the game, I know the most common one was that the game was too hard.

http://www.gearboxsoftware.com/commu...ot-fixes--4-30

*"A hot fix is automatically applied at the "Press Start" screen when Aliens: Colonial Marines is connected to the internet. In general, hot fixes are used to temporarily address issues between major updates. Hot fixes are not permanent -- they are temporarily stored in memory during the game session and lost upon exiting Aliens: Colonial Marines."

Layoffs Hit Section 8, Aliens: Colonial Marines Developer TimeGate
Entire staff reportedly let go.

Aliens: Colonial Marines and Section 8 developer TimeGate reportedly let go of its staff today. According to Kotaku, multiple sources confirmed layoffs, with one adding that “everyone was sent home early.”

TimeGate filed for bankruptcy last week, listing millions of dollars owed to various creditors. The studio previously had a round of layoffs in March.

Aliens: Colonial Marines Sells Over 1.3 Million Copies

That figure is accurate up until the end of the company’s fiscal year ending March 31st, and with the game still hanging around the charts like a stink, it seems likely to creep towards 1.5 million.

All this despite being utterly, utterly shite, enduring allegations of pre-release trickery and some muddy accusations about who actually made the damn thing. That’s the power of a strong brand.

Statue looks cool. Not sure if it's worth $29.98 though, because the game is only worth a penny

I saw the statue edition for the very first time this past weekend for $99.99 at Best Buy. Amazed they weren't sold out yet.

Oh that's pretty cool. I saw that statue as a life-sized sculpture at Pax Prime.

So the statue edition is now $19.99 on NewEgg. And there is a 10% off coupon you can apply, SAVE10SEP25Z. I rented the game from the library, beat it, and immediately returned it. The game itself sucks balls, but the statue looks pretty cool. So my question is, is the statue worth $17.99 and sell the game for a couple bucks if possible?

So $18 sweet?

Amazon will give me a whopping $2.27 trade in for the game.

It's the kind of statue you'd see for $40-$50 in comic book shops and at conventions. Plus there's a bunch of other little cool trinkets in there. The stuff that came with the game was all really neat. Smokescreen, of course...

Hell yes. Tons of video games for 360, PS3 and the Wii. Best part is you can request anything you want online, they email you when it's ready for pickup, and you can keep it for a week. Then you can renew it up to 3 weeks as long as no one else requests it or if they have enough copies available.

That's nuts. Never even thought a library would lend out games.

My library is the same. I was surprised at how many video games they carried. They've even got newer stuff like Tomb Raider, Saints Row 4, GTA5, Injustice and Bioshock: Infinite. Everything's spread out between 4-5 regional libraries. But you can browse their entire catalog online. You can request particular titles, and they'll ship it to your local branch for pick-up. I've got about 5-6 games on request right now.
