Keyboard and mouse doesn't play well from the couch.

Re: The Official E3 Expo 2011 Thread (June 6-9, 2011)
There's always these complaints. FPS games work well because the core gameplay mechanics are spot-on -- change the guns, locales and story and you're good to go, it's fun as hell and is a shoe-in for multiplayer. Plus they're relatively easy to pick up and play.
I had the same issue on the N64 when it was nothing but repetitive, boring platformers week after week. Similarly suffered through fighter fatigue. Unfortunately a big problem with all of this is how much it costs to make a game with mass appeal. FPS games are generally a safe bet so they get the most action, adventure games have been relegated to episodic games, RPGs used to be engaging but plot has seemingly taken a backseat to gathering and stat building, they've frankly become a total bore. |

If the 360 supported a keyboard and mouse then you might see MMO and RTS games rising the charts.

If the Wii U takes its online seriously, MMOs are perfect for the system. All of your hotkeys and inventory would be accessible through the touchscreen. No need for mouse and keyboard.

I keep saying some game should take advantage of the xbox/ps3 chat pad....it is perfect for hot keys..but I guess no one cares, or maybe xbox/ps3 will not let them...

If they had a Mario MMO that was kind of like a never-ending LittleBigPlanet/Mario Galaxy I think it'd be successful enough. Add some Paper Mario / Super Mario RPG elements.

The ideal Nintendo franchise for an MMO is Pokemon.

It would be awesome to be watching a Blu-Ray and then transfar it to the Tablet Controller when your wife comes in and wants to watch House Porn.

I certainly wouldn't have expected it anyway. This system is supposed to be on the level of what's already out, maybe a little better, isn't it? BD hasn't shown itself to be necessary for storage of today's games, save for a few exceptions, and Nintendo seems to always hold back something in their consoles.

I don't think this is surprising at all. What does Nintendo really have to gain by supporting Blu-ray playback in the console?

Given that they've announced the discs will hold up to 25GB, I will bet money that the optical medium for the WiiU is single-layer Blu-ray discs that simply have a proprietary filesystem which does not conform to the Blu-ray specs. This allows them to get low-cost replication since any Blu-ray line could produce them, but frees them from licensing fees and other costs associated with supporting Blu-ray playback in the console.
