We know the Frostbite engine can support this, from night maps in Bad Company 2, so there’s no technical reason as to why BF3 won’t include it. Add even if it does, we hope it’s night-combat specific, e.g. players get night vision goggles and other gear (like in BF2 Special Forces, which featured night combat).
Another wish, and perhaps an unrealistic one, is to have each map with a day/night cycle.

I would love to see this. Not just Night/Day, but also Weather cycles. Seems like a no-brainer. I don't know why this hasn't been done yet.

That's the only one I'm indifferent about. I outright disagree with the rest.

Things I'd like to see:

- Spotting in hardened
- Fewer objectives in destructible buildings
- Slightly less incentive to play as a "sniper"
- More AA guns or more damage to choppers from mounted 50 cals
- One rocket launcher for the engineer that's semi-effective against helicopters

I'm not sure I agree with any of those...very PC and nerd centric.

Consoles are a lot more advanced than they used to be so thinking outside the box or taking elements from other games/pc can lead to some inovation.

2: 64 player support, bigger maps
More players for sure. It can be done to make the game stand out and it will hinder snipers as it will give them less room to hide - one of the things chess wants to see

3: More factions
More of a this would be kind of neat than a necessity.

4: Unlocks that are harder to get

5: Bigger squads with respawn only on squad-leader
Bigger squads would be great - 6 man squad would be ideal, 8 would be mathematically correct in a 64 player game

6: Night combat
An unlock for a class that would use night vision or thermal imaging would make this really interesting. plus flash grenades or thermite would be useful in countering it.

7: Faction specific weapons
More about realism than anything - Russians don't use American weapons and vice versa. I like this idea but each faction should then have a class that uses any weapon - Special Forces?

8: Real world ranks
More ranks will hold player attention longer -esp on consoles. more time would be spent in the game. More players would stay in BF3 and not give CoD such a stranglehold on FPS. Plus I think some of the higher ranks should get leadership bonuses of some sort or some extra special ability.

9: More classes
4 classes is OK, but I have issues with a medic having a heavy machine gun. That should be seperated into 2 classes. There should be a pure assault class. A ammunition/ demolition support class (with a heavy machine gun :D ) Basicly more class specialization so that a truly balanced team can be really rewarded.

I like the thought of night maps or a cycle and perhaps night specific equipment or upgrade paths.

Bigger squads make sense, I think 6 or 8 might be the sweet spot there in certain modes.

More classes might be a good thing, but frankly they need to be careful they don't make it overwhelming. Too many classes can be just as bad as not enough. Also, if there were more classes, you would almost *have* to increase the squad size. I have a hunch they will stick with the 4 classes that are there now with some minor tweaks.

I just hope that with a change to longer unlock cycles, you don't end up being completely worthless as a medic or engineer type for multiple levels until you can earn the basic tools, i.e. med pack or repair tool. I wouldn't want to have to play a class for 3 - 5 hours just to be able to actually be in the class.

cruzness 02-23-11 01:25 PM

Re: Battlefield 3

That sounds silly. I would think basic tools would be available at first and expanding on area of influence and speed of regeneration as unlocks along with better weaponry.

One of my online friends turned me to this game and said this will be something special. From what little is out there it's perked my interest. I found this neat article from Gameinformer about the bunch doing the sound saying this could be the most realistic war game ever. About a 4:20 minute video with interview and them capturing live sound. Pretty interesting thought behind this.

It'd be awesome if they are indeed gonna use live sounds to make it far closer to reality but I pray to God they keep that War Tapes crap the hell away from this one. All that did was compress the dynamics to crappy iPod quality and then boost the volume in a pathetic attempt to compensate for the non-existant dynamics. Home Cinema was the way to go in Battlefield: BC2.

BC2 has amazing sound for what's happening on a battlefield...particularly the way they handle explosions. And it's second only to Warhawk for directional effects.

Great video...thanks for posting it.

Oh I agree. But the War Tapes feature pisses all over that. No way footfalls and gunfire (or wind or practically every damn sound) should sound almost equally loud.

I would like dynamic squads so they don't all have to have the same number of people, and also a way to force every player in a game into a squad. I hate joining a game in BC2 and seeing 'searching for squad' the entire time.

I'm actually very happy with the squad size and classes in BC2. I wouldn't welcome significant changes to either.

Agreed about the medics. I think medics are probably the best class overall in BC2. A squad of them is basically unstoppable between the scoped machine guns and revive/self-heal abilities.

And god damn that trailer is awesome. I really want to buy a PC this time around.

I agree that they are the best class, but that doesn't stop most people from playing assault, engineer or recon, or at least that's been my experience. Each class has their strengths and weaknesses, and I think it's commendable that they've build a system with such an even distribution between classes.

Medics are great for holing up at an objective or reviving teammates who cover the objective. Engineers are great at combat in close quarters, for using vehicles and for taking out vehicles, including choppers. Assault is great for twitchy mid-range fighting. And recon is great for being a worthless douche who doesn't help their team an any way.

My rule of thumb is that I play a medic unless the map has a ton of vehicles and the other team is using them...and then I'm an engineer.

I don't care so much about the number of players except that it might make the maps too big for consoles. The last thing I want to see is a bunch of Heavy Metals.

Really, if they were going to work on something, I'd like to see them work on the front end of the game. They need to fix some of the matchmaking, team balancing and freezing/crashing issues....and for the love of pete, don't tell me my team lost when it won or vice versa. What a dumb fucking problem to have!

Totally agree. Team balancing is a huge issue. On the one hand I would like to see more effort balancing players between matches. On the other, if I'm on a good squad and we are rocking the other team, I don't want my squad suddenly broken up for the next match and end up placed with a bunch of camping snipers or something.

The online code really seems to need a lot of work. I remember I couldn't even play the game online when I first bought it. Until I spent hours scouring the forums and found some weird system clock reset solution that magically solved the problem. I'm also sick of the random rank and class resets that seem to hit every once in a while. Servers are also down way more than they should be. Although this seems better now that the game's popularity has probably waned a little.

And I do think the class balance is really good in BC2. I would just like to see them mix it up a little bit. Hopefully for the better.

They absolutely shouldn't break up squads, but they could move squads around between teams...not based on rank, but on current performance.

The recent footage for Battlefield 3 was captured from a PC. However, DICE have looked to calm down fears that the game may not look so cool on consoles. Speaking recently, an art director told the media - "That’s the magic. The game will look very good, even on 360.” So there you have it, 'even' the Xbox 360 will make this game look great.

I can't even enjoy FPS games with out destructable environments the way I used to - BC 2 has spoiled me. That said, I'm tired of blowing up the same 10 structures all the time. Glad to see they are going to keep improving this aspect of the game.
