Re: Official PSP2 Thread

It looks really nice and sounds quite interesting. I might buy it, depending on price of course. I don't plan to spend $500 on a portable system (and especially not $1000, although that's probably just a placemarker. No way in Hell.)

I bought a PSP and haven't ended up playing it nearly as much as I expected to, so I feel bad about that.

# NGP will be able to play PSP titles, minis, PS one classics, video and comics from the PlayStation Store.

I guess it doesn't technically say "all."

Seems odd to have a rear touchscreen (a touchpad I could understand, but you can't look at both screens at the same time, why would you need a screen?)
I am more curious about the DRM. Will you have to re-buy any of your games? Does anyone know how that works if you buy a new PSP now?

It should be linked to your PSN account. Anything you buy now, you should be able to re-download for free.

Re: Official PSP2 Thread

I wonder if it can attach to multiple accounts... The PSP can only attach to one account at the moment. Anyway, I love my PSPs (fat, slim and Go), I think it's time to retire them

It doesn't look cheap at all, $300-$500 would be my guess, time to save those pretty pennies...

It's not, which is why it was billed as "high res" and not "high definition."

Given that those are technically PS3 games, how would that be so easy? Maybe they don't push the system as hard as typical boxed games, but they'd still have to be rewritten to run on the PSP2 (or whatever the hell it's going to be called).

What they might be able to do is write a custom emulator for each PS2 game and package that with the game.

Re: Official PSP2 Thread

I'm thinking this may have the unfortunate (for Sony) side effect of making the 3DS seem like a bargain, at least price-wise. I don't see how they could get it under 300. And then the games will have to recoup development costs, so $50?

Re: Official PSP2 Thread

I think they'll get it in at $299. The design is similar to the PSP and probably didn't require much R&D. Capacitive touch screens are fairly cheap these days.

I can't see anyone shelling out more than $300 for a portable game system.

That was L&O busting my balls (again). I said it had a high definition image, but yes, I meant a high resolution image. So sue me. Just get in line behind my contractor.

Re: Official PSP2 Thread

I dunno, i think the Go is still 200 and the 3000 is around the same (but in bundles). two screens, at least one of which is higher resolution, and upping all the specs would seem to make this one pretty expensive. Maybe the 3G one will be subsidized by whatever they charge for the monthly service or something? Sony never seems to be afraid of scaring people away with their prices.

Long story short : Bought an expensive house in August in a fancy neighborhood. House needed a ton of work. We set out to remodel the shit out of it. The contractor underbid and then didn't finish the work, and he didn't pay his sub-contractors. He thinks I owe him money for his half-finished POS job. I think he need to give me money back. I need to hire a new contractor and finish this fucker up. I now have two houses and am in limbo. It's a huge fucking mess.

One day though I'll have a kick-ass home cinema in a rocking man-cave and I'll never again have to wait until after the Real Housewives Wrap-Up show to play video games. Can't wait for that day.

Re: Official PSP2 Thread

Yeah, it'll definitely be $299 or less. Remember that Sony sells systems at cost or even at a loss, so it's not like the $299 iPod Touch that costs Apple only $120 in cost to manufacture, or a $599 top of the line cell phone that may cost $240 to manufacture, etc (making these numbers up, but hopefully you get the idea).

If it's $299, I'll probably get one. More than that, and I will wait for a price drop.

Re: Official PSP2 Thread

I agree $300 is the limit. And the fact is, considering the cost of smart phones and MP3s these days, that isn't very expensive. I'm more worried about the cost of games. A system like this is going to need some pretty sweet console level titles, and if people aren't willing to drop $50 for a game, I worry it won't happen.

Absolutely, if they can bring it in under $300, that would be for the wifi model, I assume, just like the iPad did. That would be fine for me. I've got the 4G wifi hotspot on my Evo phone and I absolutely LOVE it.

Re: Official PSP2 Thread

Wonder what the battery life is gonna be like? Without a UMD drive and using an OLED screen I would think it should get somewhere between 6-8hrs, depending on the battery size.

Sounds similar to my co-worker went through when she build an addition onto her house. She could easily write a book about what to look for in contractor/subs and what to do/not do. She is kind of a hard ass so everything eventually got done right and was actually done for a very good price. But, she would never build another addition again. It was a royal pain.
