Re: Tomb Raider (a.k.a. Tomb Raider 9)

That's the thing, I didn't like UC's multiplayer but it seems to be moderately successful, I find TR's combat to be more fun so I think they could get a functional multiplayer but that isn't what we were given.

The single player though fucking rocks so far, a little more reliant on gunplay than I was hoping but not terribly so.

Played this tonight for the first time. I got up until the guy gives you the axe to climb the walls. Fuck I had a great time!

Re: Tomb Raider (a.k.a. Tomb Raider 9)

This game is way too short.

Loved it while it lasted, but damn I'm glad I had an amazon GC to burn on this.

Hahaha, this game is amazing. I'm alternating between shotgun, the upgraded bow and close-up axe kills. The fights are insane! Finally, a game that utilizes the cover system correctly (no buttons to press, just auto-cover). This is a joy after the mess that Mass Effect was.

Re: Tomb Raider (a.k.a. Tomb Raider 9)

I finally got to the area mentioned earlier and in the Conan video with the death by throat. A couple of those, but dying right after that moment wasn't pretty either.

Spoiler:
Death Parachuting into sharp tree branches wasn't nice.

Re: Tomb Raider (a.k.a. Tomb Raider 9)

Anyone know how long it is? I just got to the part
Spoiler:
after she tried to rescue the pilot where Lara was kidnapped and had to escape (and the monsters first appeared, which doesn't help in not reminding me of Uncharted) .

I don't want this to end. God of War comes out next week, but the fact that there haven't been any reviews yet does not bode well.

Well I liked it so much I kept on playing past the Tower scene and some more after that. Pretty intense and yes definite Lost vibe going on.

The GoW demo didn't bode well.

Re: Tomb Raider (a.k.a. Tomb Raider 9)

So is this a good puzzle and exploration based game? Or a third person action shooting game? Think it comes to PC soon and not sure whether to buy.

Re: Tomb Raider (a.k.a. Tomb Raider 9)

It released on PC the same day as consoles, as I've been playing it since Monday night.

The only "puzzles" i've seen are the various tombs you can find. Other then that it's pretty much a mix of exploring (and hunting around for objects, although not required) and shooting. The shooting and fighting aspects seem pretty easy and basic, which is nice since it keeps the pace of the game going.

Re: Tomb Raider (a.k.a. Tomb Raider 9)

Okay, I've just barely started this. Maybe I'm missing something obvious, but is there a way to use the pick axe and/or torch for melee attacks? It seems completely ridiculous and awkward to be taking out wolves right in front of me with the bow and arrow.

You have to use skill points to unlock melee attacks later.

I found one tomb and completed it. It was the first one so I don't know if they get harder as you go but I thought it was perfect and fit into the game story without messing up the pacing.

I can't wait to get home and keep the story going. Between this and Dead Space 3 I am extremely happy with my last 2 game purchases. The only other game that I am really looking forward to is The Stick of Truth but who knows when it will come out.

I feel like they kind of do later on (just found my 3rd Tomb), but its the same type of thing that plagues any of these kind of games. "I have to save my friends right away before they die!! But after I run around picking up relics, documents, and exploring these caves first."

Spoiler:
I think around 2/3 if we're thinking of the same part, but that description fits a few scenes in the game. Have to be more specific

I'm just at the part where the
Spoiler:
Coast Guard plane goes down
I really haven't felt that I have been wasting time looking for relics. I know after you complete the game you can go back and complete the exploring aspect so I try to keep a tight pace.

My favorite is "The planet is about to be destroyed, let me go raise Chocobos for a year!"

I just came into this thread to see whether I should finally pop my Tomb Raider cherry on this game, but came across this exchange :

Found and completed 2nd tomb. Am I the only asshole expecting some kind of creature to jump out and scare the shit outta me during the dark lit corridors?

Re: Tomb Raider (a.k.a. Tomb Raider 9)

Just finished it. So amazing. I know it's very early in the year to say it, but it'll be hard for anything to top this experience as my GOTY.

But we were talking about the multiplayer DLC. Buy the game, it's fun. Just don't play the shit MP.
