My boss is considering purchasing a video game system for his 9-yr-old daughter this year. It will most likely be connected to a standard def TV, so graphic capability probably isn't of the utmost importance. Basically comes down to games and playability.

My first inclination is to say the Wii or the DS, but as I don't have daughter, and my boys are all about the XBox360, I may not be the best source for an opinion on this.

For those of you with daughters, what is the system they play the most and why?

Wii would probably be best -- at 9 the things that detract for us adults isn't quite the same... New SMB, Super Mario Galaxy and Just Dance 2 would probably go over well... or a Kinect 360 with Dance Central.

My 8 yr old Daughter likes some of the standard games on the PS3 (Little Big Planet, Modnation Racers) and your movie based games ( Cloudy w/ a chance of meatballs, GForce). The PS3 isn't a system most young girls would be into. I would think that a Kinect on the 360 would grow with a nine year old (or the Playstaion Move) as their tastes change. I've noticed my girl loves to customize characters and she will spend more time messing with how her characters appear than actually playing a game itself. Therefore Santa is getting my daughter a DS with a couple of games where customizing a character is part of the gameplay. I think a Wii or a DS is the way to go for that age girl.

My 9-year-old daughter's #1 game is Little Big Planet on the PS3. She also enjoys a variety of games on the DS and the Wii.

A lot of kids that age have a DS, so I would recommend it simply because then the girl can game with her friends.

We have a Wii and my daughter (8) has a DS. She plays her DS about 100x more than the Wii.

Just my $.02. I think either would be good.
