Re: Pac-Man Championship Edition DX Official Thread of THE KING OF GAMES

Yeah, the path I used is only about 15% to 20% different from the number one spot holder. However, the big challenge in this game, which was the same in CE, is being able to do what you know you should. I have a grasp of what path I should take, but those last 2 minutes, I always mess up because it becomes really hard to keep up with the action. That is where DX becomes a game of skill, not so much of strategy.

True, yet I've learned to not be scared of the ghost in DX. At first, I would get all tense when a ghost and I were on the same path, using bombs and such, but now I realize you just need to be patient. If the ghost has an alternate route to avoid you, it will take it.

I finally broke 1 million last night (i know that is not impressive) in championship II. I am now 6,000 on the leaderboard LOL. I have been doing championship II on normal, if I do it on expert do I score more points? I need to watch some vids, sometimes I feel like I am going to have a big score and then the score sucks. I don't think I have a handle on the strategy very well right now.

Expert starts you at a higher speed, so you SHOULD get a higher score.

Also, should you always wait until you have a really long line of ghosts before you eat them or should you just get them when you can?

I have watched the vid of the guy that is #1 on the leaderboard(Championship II)---i feel like i am using the same strategy he does, but i don't seem to get far over 1 million.

Just eat ghosts whenever you hit a power pellet, simple as that.

Save the center dot for the last ten or twenty seconds of your game.

Yes, definitely. I started out on Easy but was frustrated that my score topped out in the 750,000 range. Skipped ahead to Expert and doubled my high score instantly on the first try. It's not really any harder persay, you just start at a higher speed which naturally leads to more points.

Trains cap at 30, there's not much point trying to extend one past when a power pellet shows up.

Re: Pac-Man Championship Edition DX Official Thread of THE KING OF GAMES

Purchased this last night based on the great feedback in this forum. Loving it so far, but slightly disappointed it only took about 45 minutes to get all but two of the achievements. Looking forward to going back to it though when I return from vacation to try to crack 2,000,000. A lot of fun overall (my highlight: a 97 ghost chain...that was a blast).

Quickest way to get the scoring achievements (for me, anyway) was to play the Spiral board. There are several key times where ghosts cluster in a huge group right next to the power pellet, and you can rack up insane combos.

Oh, and just for the smack talk, I topped it twice and increased my lead by more. Cracked the top 20 again... right at 20... again.

Sorry for the size, photobucket is giving me troubles right now.

Nice work, I popped it in a little today, but was way off my game. I see I was pushed all the way down to 117, so I've got a lot of work to do.

Re: Pac-Man Championship Edition DX Official Thread of THE KING OF GAMES

I decided to play CE for a little nostalgic fun, but DX has broken that game for me. I'm so in the groove with DX, I can hardly function in CE. I didn't realize it while I was in it, but going back, DX looks MUCH better than CE did. Not to say CE was a bad looking game, but I didn't really appreciate the improvements made.

Re: Pac-Man Championship Edition DX Official Thread of THE KING OF GAMES

this is one addictive game. i have limited gaming time, I will say "I will play a round or two of this and play something else" That doesn't work, when I start playing this game I can't stop. It is one of those "just one more round" games.

Re: Pac-Man Championship Edition DX Official Thread of THE KING OF GAMES

It's also a good blowoff steam game. I listen to podcasts when I play it. It's ridiculous that I can play this game over and over for an hour, but that's exactly the case.

I see some new strategies emerging. Lots of the top scorers are foregoing ghosts, to be able to squeeze in another screen that is loaded with ghosts towards the end.

Re: Pac-Man Championship Edition DX Official Thread of THE KING OF GAMES

Yeah, I was thinking about trying that after I got my best score last night by just panicking at the end to make sure I got to the typical last big ghost screen, I almost made it to the next on accident.

I figured that out the other day and have been doing the same thing. I wasn't going to mention it. It's basically similar to the "Keys" in the original game. The secret to nabbing top scores in that one is making it to that second set of Keys.

Same thing goes here, keep your speed at 50 so you can make it to that second monster wave of ghosts. To do that you might miss a ghost or three here or there but you make it up in spades during that second wave. Also, use the bombs and forgo ghosts over dying while trying to make a close call keeping the chain alive. You lose a couple levels of speed vs. 10 for dying.

I was averaging 1,650,000 now I'm consistently between 750 and 825 on a normal run. I can just smell the 2 million on the horizon...
