Ubisoft Announces HD, 3D Prince of Persia Compilation for PS3

The fantastic last-generation Prince of Persia games will soon be coming to a 3D-capable PS3 near you, provided the PS3 near you is in Europe.

Here's the good news: The rumored HD Prince of Persia Trilogy compilation is a real thing, and it will be hitting PS3s everywhere at the end of November.

Here's the better news: The three games - Sands of Time, Warrior Within, and Two Thrones - will be given the full HD upgrade. The trilogy will ship on a single Blu-Ray disc containing 30 hours of play time (or 10 hours per game, for us mathemagicians), and will be remastered in 720p with new textures and anti-aliasing. It will even support stereoscopic 3D, to help you judge jumps more accurately (or to just make you even more motion-sick).

Now, here's the weird news: As far as we can tell, this compilation is not only a PS3 exclusive, it's also a European exclusive. So while our friends in the UK can pick the compilation up for £29.99 (or its equivalent in Euros) on November 19th, Prince of Persia fans this side of the Atlantic are just plain out of luck.

That said, I can't really imagine this being a complete European exclusive for long. Ubisoft would be foolish to go to all the trouble and not release it around the world, no? For the moment, however, we here in the States must sigh and grumble. Lousy Europeans, with their smoking and great beer and Prince of Persia compilations. What've you done for us lately, huh? Huh?

Glad i held off purchasing warrior within and two thrones. What are the chances we'll see a release over here? I may have to import this if they don't.

It would also be pretty foolish to be PS3 exclusive if it ever comes this way as well.

Prince of Persia HD collection coming to psn!

Previously announced as a European and EMEA exclusive, the Prince of Persia HD collection has had me snarling with furious jealousy ... until now. Ubisoft has revealed during a 2010-2011 financial report that its HD remastering of the classic PS2 games will be coming to the US PlayStation Network as well.

As a fan of the series, this is great news to me. I haven't played Sands of Time in forever, and I was quite annoyed when the collection was reported to snug America. So, this is good news for all concerned!

No date or price has yet been announced, but Ubisoft appears to expect that the three games will be available for download before the end of the year, and there isn't much of 2010 left!

Glad to see this. I have a 3D TV and Cod: Black Ops is nothing short of amazing on it in 3D.

Sands of Time is up on PSN now. $14.99. I guess they feel we'd rather shell out $45 for digital copies than $30 for the disc the folks across the pond get. Is this taxation without representation?

Exactly! The prince probably has bad teeth in that version. I want him to look like Jake Gyllenhaal.

Well, good news and bad news. I downloaded it and played all the way through it. I think for the most part it looks great. There are some graphic touches though that are missing. I'm used to the GameCube version, and I remember everything having a glowing look when rewinding time. This just has everything going in reverse.

Also, there are some major sound bugs. I don't know what the hell is going on. Half the time sound effects are missing, or the volume levels are all jacked up, or everyone's talking and all you hear is an echo of their voices, or like they're talking underwater. So dang weird.

It also seems to pause before a fight now.

And one part really pissed me off. It's pretty much the most emotional scene in the game, and the audio was waaaay ahead of the video. Completely threw everything off and ruined it.

I feel like it was worthwhile, but they need to fix the friggin' bugs and put some nice final touches on it. If they patch it, I'll get around to playing it again sometime to get the couple of trophies that I have remaining. Otherwise, I'm glad I kept my GCN copy.
