Formula One 2010
Saw a lil love for this in the "Must haves for 2010" thread, but didn't see a thread for the game itself.
Any reviews so far for this? Where's the best deal? (if any) Is the Wii getting a "lesser" version of the game called F1 2009? I find the official website kinda sparse so I thought I'd try the DVTalk crowd for some info. THANKS |
Re: Formula One 2010
8.5 from IGN UK:
http://uk.xbox360.ign.com/articles/112/1120745p1.html Looks great. Just hoping the gameplay is adjustable enough that it can be "sim-ish". |
Re: Formula One 2010
Seems kind of pointless with GT5 less than two months away. Granted I'm not big into F1, so perhaps it won't do it justice. The thought of having F1, Rally, Nascar, X1, karts, and normal cars in a single game is awesome. Why is there not a GT5 thread active right now?! I'm just going to keep talking about it in this thread instead.

Re: Formula One 2010
Gt5 is a driving sim. F1 2010 is a racing sim. It's doubtful that GT5 will have qualifiying, flags, tire strategy, season play, etc etc.

Re: Formula One 2010
I'm a huge F1 fan and will be getting this release day. It will be the first game I'm getting on release day because I'm THAT pumped about it. On the other hand, I'm not even half as excited for GT5.
7 year career mode, full practice sessions, qualifying, full race distance, tyre options, dynamic weather, yellow flags, pit speed limiter..... aaahhhhhh.... this is going to be so awesome!! What isn't in the game: formation lap and the safety car, but hopefully that will be in F1 2011. Looks like Fry's will have this for $49.95, and KMart $44.95. And we'll get to race on the new track in Korea even before the real life drivers do! Check out this guy's practice runs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UyI1G...eature=channel You see that if you cut the chicanes during your practice run, it will invalidate your lap time. Gotta love the rules! By the way, this is where all the love is at: http://community.codemasters.com/for...2010-game-1316 Mostly European crowd, as expected. :) |
Re: Formula One 2010
Thanks for the links Autotelik! (And everyone for the comments, pics and such.)
It's funny, he puts in a lap at Monza at almost the same time Alonso did! Can't wait for this game! Been an F1 fan since they raced in the streets of my hometown and this game looks like the first to do the sport justice! |
Re: Formula One 2010
So if playing on 360 what's the best wheel that will work with this? Or is there one? Preferably force feedback.
I've always been pretty bad with driving games on a controller and these cars are even more tweaky in their response. |
Re: Formula One 2010
Quoted from the Codemasters Community Manager on their own forum:
In the past month or so we've received a lot of questions regarding which racing wheels & controllers are officially supported F1 2010, and now that the list has been finalised I thought I would post it up. Below are the racing wheels and controllers that F1 2010 OFFICIALLY supports: Please note that we'll hopefully be looking at increasing support for additional wheels/controllers in the future, so please let us know if you think there are any glaring omissions. PS3: • DUAL SHOCK 3 • Logitech Driving Force EX/RX • Logitech Driving Force Pro • Logitech Driving Force GT • Logitech G25 Racing Wheel • Logitech G27 Racing Wheel • Thrustmaster Run’N’Drive Wireless Rumble Force • Thrustmaster Dual Trigger Rumble Force Xbox 360: • Microsoft Xbox 360 Controller • Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Racing Wheel • Logitech Drive FX Wheel • Fanatec Porsche 911 Turbo S PC: • Microsoft Xbox 360 Controller • Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Racing Wheel • Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback Wheel with Force Feedback • Fanatec Porsche 911 Turbo / Turbo S / GT3 RS Wheel • Logitech Dual Action • Logitech MOMO Racing • Logitech MOMO Force • Logitech G25 Racing Wheel • Logitech G27 Racing Wheel • Logitech Rumble Pad 2 • Logitech Cordless Rumble Pad 2 • Logitech Driving Force GT • Thrustmaster RGT Force Feedback Clutch Edition • Thrustmaster Ferrari 430 Force Feedback Racing Wheel _____________________________________________________________________________ I'm not too familiar with wheels for the 360, but I would think that the ones listed above have force feedback- you would have to verify. I'm going to save up for the Logitech G27 for the PS3. Some fans have been speculating whether this game will be too easy, or too difficult. That guy in the video posted almost a similar lap time to Alonso at Monza and he uses the expert setting. I think we'll have to play the game to judge for ourselves. Who knows, maybe later on in his practice run, Alonso or another driver laps even faster. Also, for a full distance race, you've got to have pretty good concentration because one big mistake and your race is toast. There are rumors of a bug in the game.... not sure if it's official yet. A person said that if you pit while other cars are coming in to pit as well, they don't release you from your pit box until all the other cars are out of their pits. That would suck because if rain comes down and you all pit at the same time to change tires, then you'd be released in last place. Not sure if it's a confirmed bug yet, but they're looking in to it. It sounds too big of a bug to go unnoticed during the developers' testings. Hmmmm, sounds like maybe KMart might not have this yet tomorrow, according to the KMart rep on CAG. It's getting shipped to them tomorrow, so maybe arriving later this week. Guess I'll check it out tomorrow, then hit Fry's if it's not at KMart. |
Re: Formula One 2010
I might get it... I'm currently member at iRacing and iRacing is going to release Williams FW31 (F1 vehicle) in few weeks. And I'm not sure if this Formula One 2010 will allow me use G25 with CST pedals if I'm going to get PC version... I don't know, I will wait and see.

Re: Formula One 2010
Hmmm...I should have anticipated this, but I'm not showing it available in any Best Buys near me.
Does anyone know what outlet might be stocking this title? |
Re: Formula One 2010
What a major letdown.
Looks like NO store has this in stock yet in North America (plenty of angry people at Codemasters site). According to Codemasters, now it turns out that today is the "ship date", not the "release date". I say big effin' BS to that.... everyone knows that Tuesday is when new media (games, movies, etc) comes out. My guess is something happened to distribution, so noone has it in stock yet. There are also conflicting reports as to when it might arrive- some stores say never, some maybe tomorrow, some maybe next week. It's a pretty niche title, so I'm not entirely surprised at the lack of stock, but given the euphoria over at the Codemasters forum, with people so pumped up (like me) to get this today, it would have been nice to get a little warning and not have to wake up to this. I got off work early thinking I would get to play this today. |
Re: Formula One 2010
Just spent a hour trying to track down a local store with it. No one has it. Although more that a few were surprised when it wasn't in stock. 'We should've gotten in 6 copies' and 'It says here its coming in day but its not here' etc

Re: Formula One 2010
Just got back from a late lunch and saw these posts after I did a lil running around as well at retailers that don't have "stock checking" websites.
Best news I got was EB Games who said it was being shipped today and should have it by Thursday. She also said I was the fourth person to ask about it, so...a lil interest out there! I'll post if it shows up, or if I find a copy elsewhere...and will check back here for any other updates. Thanks all! |

Re: Formula One 2010
Distribution screwed up big for this title. It's like they couldn't give a rat's ass whether people bought this or not in North America. I called Fry's today, and told them this was a title in their ad for this week. The guy on the phone (who actually knew what F1 was), said their inventory doesn't even say they are getting any - they expect 0. Zero!! I asked how that could be, given this title is in their weekly ad. Guy says he has no idea.
None of the Best Buys around Nor Cal have it. Looks like there were a small number of copies available around Cincinnati and Chicago, and that's it. I just checked on Amazon too- just to consider getting it for 2 day shipping so at least I can get it to play this weekend. But Amazon doesn't even have it- the title "Ships from and sold by River Road". WTF? |
Re: Formula One 2010
Wow...lame.
I'm gonna check back at EB Games tomorrow...since they said they'd have it, but I'm betting their list was just what was ordered, and if there is a dist prob they won't have any either. Funny..EB training must say "if a customer asks for a game you don't know, tell them they were the fourth person to request it so they feel they have to come back early to get it!" |
Re: Formula One 2010
Sounds like the pit stop bug is being looked at by the developers. Hopefully there will be a patch soon. When we eventually do get the game, one strategy to limit the pit bug from happening is to try to pit at different times from the AI cars- which can be done if you race longer distances (the field spreads out more over a longer distance race), do not pit at the default lap (as suggested by your engineer) to change tires, or deliberately pit 1 lap later if rain comes down hard and you know everyone is going in for different tires.

Re: Formula One 2010
It's out. Finally. Looks like at least all (most) Best Buys have it now. I checked store availability online a couple of hours ago, and there was nothing anywhere. Read a post over at Codemasters forum and someone said it now says available in store. Checked for myself, and sure enough... all stores in San Francisco have it.... of course they updated their website after the stores closed otherwise I would run down to the nearest store to get it.
I'm going to have to try to score one early tomorrow, since stocks are likely to be low. |
Re: Formula One 2010
Got it !!!!!!!
None of my Best Buys had it...actually got a helpful rep on the phone who dug a lil and said they didn't expect it at all today or tomorrow. Called the closest EB games (the one who told me I was 4th) and she still didn't have it in. Said it was taken off of her system so she couldn't get a street date. When I asked her to check other stores she said her Internet was down, so I tried another. This one...another helpful rep...said he'd dig in the 'box in the back" and sure enough...3 copies! 1 reserved, mine...and one left! Gonna be a long day...'bout 6 hours til I get off and get ta try it out... :-) |
Re: Formula One 2010
Congrats!
I finally got mine too, after a bit of hair pulling. When I saw it "available in store" last night at Bestbuy's website, I ordered 1 for pickup. 2 hours after I ordered, I got an email saying it was unavailable now. In fact, all stores around me were also unavailable all of a sudden. Printed out a list of Game Stops around me this morning and while at work, one by one I called each store... called about 10 stores. Some said they just got a shipment in and haven't had time to open it to see what was inside. Some said they were all out. Eventually, I got one where they had 1 left. They said no orders over the phone (I tried giving them my credit card to charge), and since it was a new release, they could not hold it for me either. I was 90 minutes away from getting off work. Well..... I finally got off work, and that store I talked to sold their last copy before I arrived. I was REALLY bummed. The guy there at least helped me out and found another store 20 miles away with a couple of copies left. I flew down there and snatched it. On the way, I was thinking that if I missed out again, then so be it... I just wasn't meant to play it right now. Guess I'll try out a race at Singapore first, since the Singapore GP is this weekend. Good way to get to know the track! Then I'll go into career mode with practice, qualifying, and full length races! I saw a video of a guy doing practice laps at Monaco. That's going to be one very difficult track that will award drivers with a lot of patience. |
Re: Formula One 2010
Any feedback on those who have played?

Re: Formula One 2010
I'm a fairly unexperienced racing gamer. The only game I've spent significant time on was Dirt 2, and I don't have a racing wheel yet. I'm a big F1 fan though, so I'm loving this game so far, even though it is quite buggy, and challenging to play.
I turn off the brake and ABS assists, with an automatic transmission, and a racing line on corners only (since I still haven't mastered the correct time to brake for corners). With those settings, I'm pretty satisfied with my results so far. I've been spending most of my time on the Singapore Marina Bay track (since it's the site of this weekend's real F1 event), and during my first 3 hours of doing practice laps, I honestly only managed 1 "valid lap". If your vehicle cuts a corner, goes off the track, spins out, or does any illegal maneuver, your lap time is invalid, which means you'll flunk qualifying. It is quite unforgiving, until you really master the track.... took me probably 4-5 hours to really get to know that track and then I strung together 5 good laps. Then decided to do a 20% distance race (which was about 12 laps) and finished 2nd to last. I definitely need more practice, but I'm enjoying it so far, partly because it does try to adhere to a lot of the real F1 rules. Just hope they can fix some of the bugs. |
Re: Formula One 2010
Picked it up today finally. Enjoying it so far although its certainly quite a change since i've been playing a tonne of Forza 3 lately so its a completely different feel to it of course. First thing i did was turn off all aids and switch to manual. Right now i'm just doing time trials which i always enjoy in racing games but i aint setting any records yet

Re: Formula One 2010
I'm still playing. Up to my 3rd race in career mode. Man that Malaysia track is really tough, and I'm loving it! I still do a lot of practice before the real race... gotta figure out how to attack the turns. Some are pretty tricky- like one slight turn leading into a tighter one... makes you wonder how hard you can push the car and what line to take. Some people are sharing their car and engine setups for each track:
http://www.racedepartment.com/f1-2010-setups/ I think most of those times are done with the top cars though, like McLaren, Ferrari, and Red Bull. Still worth experimenting with the lower tier cars. For my first career race at Bahrain, using a Lotus, I qualified 23rd and finished 20th. I'm doing full-distance races in career mode, and found out I have to take breaks about every 15-20 laps because my fingers were tired and my hands were sweating. Actually got up to 16th in that race but I attacked the car in front of me too hard while tailing him for 5-6 laps and I spun out, and had to regroup. The second race at Melbourne, I qualified 9th and finished last. That was a bummer because I really thought I was going to do well. I just couldn't keep my concentration on the turns (with the football on in the background) and spun out too many times. Ended up getting lapped. So I'm onto Malaysia, tough track. Done with practice and haven't started qualifying yet. My times kind of suck on this track so I don't have high hopes. Maybe the next few will be better. Edited to add some comments about possible (and some confirmed) bugs in this game. There are quite a few "bugs" being brought up over at the main Codemasters F1 2010 forum, and most don't seem that significant. However, there are some that are quite concerning, especially to F1 fans and those wanting to invest a lot of time playing this game. 1) the career mode save data will crash at some point, meaning you could lose all your progress. Yes, that sucks, and it was confirmed by many gamers that they lost all their game progress. Hopefully this is something they can fix. There's a theory that the save data crashes if you go from a practice session to the paddock area (quitting qualifying) after you've attained a R&D achievement... so try not to quit without finishing qualifying if you want to avoid this bug. Yeah, it's a very crappy bug to have. 2) Not all AI cars appear to adhere to the pitting rules. You're obliged to pit at least once in dry weather to change tires if doing races of at least 20% distance. But some have discovered that the AI cars don't all pit... so while you can be penalized for not pitting during the race, they are not penalized. That sucks too. 3) Being held up during a pitstop is a known serious bug too. A lot of instances where you pit, you're stuck there because one of the AI cars got stuck, or your pit-crew won't release your car for whatever reason. Yes, that sucks too because it will ruin your race. Sucks even more if you're in the middle of a 2 hour race session. 4) This one is REALLY annoying: there are no split times (aka gap times) shown on screen between your car and the car in front. Basically, you don't know how big the distance is between you and the car in front. That is a very serious omission. I don't know how they thought they could get away without implementing such a necessary and basic feature of any serious racing game. Even Dirt 2 had it, so it's not like Codemasters is incapable of including split times. If I'm in the middle of a long race and the field is spread out, I need to know how far ahead the next car is, and whether I'm gaining on him or not. Some conspiracy theorists out there believe that the developers left out this key feature of the game on purpose.... it cannot possibly be an accident they left it out, and they did it because their is something fundamentally wrong with the AI cars in this game. The theory is that their performance is too unrealistic, and so showing you the split times will reveal this flaw in the game (hence it is hidden). For example, some have noticed that if your car is doing well, and you're gaining on the guy in front of you, the AI will then speed up that car immensely and have that car lap at times that are impossible for that time of car and engine (like a Lotus or Virgin lapping faster than a Maclaren or Ferrari). That is impossible, so hence the split times are not shown to us so we don't know of this issue. Anyway, just my comments on the game so far and some of the more concerning bugs in the game. It's a good game to play, but definitely not perfect. And fans of Formula 1 will probably find more faults in it than casual racers who don't mind some of the blemishes. |
Re: Formula One 2010
