Re: Red Dead Redemption 2 —> 10/26/18

A lot of outlets are going on about the core system, and I don't get what the fuss is about. Kill some animals, set up camp and cook the meat you get when you skin your kill, and save the cooked food in your bag. Spend five minutes cooking and you'll have enough food to last a long while.

It seems really complicated but it's actually very easy to manage, if a little bit if a hassle.

none of the eating, drinking or management of you and your horse has been any sort of issue in this game for me. Takes just a few seconds here and there...

Just completed Chapter Six.

Seriously. Don't click this unless you have gotten this far.

Spoiler:
I saw that coming. Knee jerk reaction is the game feels over. Although I do have a theory of what happens next.

Re: Red Dead Redemption 2 —> 10/26/18

Finally finished this and the epilogue....Overall there are 100 main story missions. I would give about 10 of them the highest praise possible. Everything else ranges from bad to good. So much of this was bad though. I enjoyed the game a lot but overall I think I would have to give it an 8 out of 10....

Also the epilogue was WAY too long.

I'm still in chapter 2. I keep wanting to push the story along (don't want to play this game forever) but I really only get about an hour or so per day to sit down and play. I still like it though.

Re: Red Dead Redemption 2 —> 10/26/18

So, I'm almost done with Chapter six and while this game is very long, I'm definitely trying to enjoy it as much as I can because guess what folks....this is it for single player - well, I mean, I'm just assuming in full that they won't release any single player DLC at all.

Also, as beautiful as this game is, you spend much of your time in what feels like 2 large areas. I'm almost 70% done and have not been in Mexico at all (not even sure if it's in this game??) the first game definitely had the better map for sure.

Still a great experience but I think games need to evolve from going from mission to mission or even having any missions at all - but I guess it's needed to tell an effective story.

I think it's gross when
Spoiler:
You eat with TB, every time Arthur takes a bite he makes a disgusting cough, grosses me out.
pretty effective.

Mexico is not in this game unless you break the in-game barriers.

Wait, I thought that in addition to the new areas and maps, RDR2 has the entirety of the first game's map as well. Could've sworn I read that somewhere.

That's what I thought as well - I know the McFarlane's ranch area is there (haven't got there yet) but like Noonan, said...Mexico (so well done in the first game) is only accessible by breaking the in-game barriers which prob means you can cross over but you will be taken out shortly by a strong wave of enemies.

Re: Red Dead Redemption 2 —> 10/26/18

Finished it - way too damn long but I thought epilogue missions were better than the main game missions. The "Skinners" were nice and mean.

Well, I predicted what would happen before the game was even released - DO NOT CLICK - HUGE SPOILER
Spoiler:
Main protag would die and you would end up playing as Marston.

I'm definitely impressed though - for the scope of this game, I didn't have one problem - not one. I thought GTA V was the downfall in quality and overall "caring" by Rockstar but it wasn't.

Rockstar really wore their hearts on their sleeves with this one - you can tell this game really meant a lot to them.

I definitely see now that large maps are the way to go but long single player modes aren't - I hope they find away to re-invent this to shorten things up but still keep it epic. It's somewhat of a minor gripe but I won't lie, I don't know if I can finish a game like this again. The epic moments (and there are more than just a few) is what kept me hanging on.

Mexico is only available through a glitch and even if you do get in - it's basically just unfinished but I seriously do believe Rockstar just might make it accessible down the road.

As for the areas you can visit from the original game - it's cool when you go to McFarlane's ranch - a hired hand comes running out of the McFarlane house and explains he's there to take of things due to a sickness in the family (basically explaining why Bonnie and her Father aren't around and won't be).

Armadillo is half a a ghost town and Theives landing is literally a gang hangout.

What I'm wondering and I don't know if any of you caught this in the main game, is if towns will be restored as time passes - this happened with buildings being under construction in the main game, after some time passed, when you go back to the town the building was done being built.

Red Dead 2 doesn't have any memorable characters other than Saddie and Charles IMO - the first had a ton. I want to say the first game is better but I would probably put them at tie once I have time to let 2 cook more.

The controls definitely need to be overhauled for their games - even though they are actually somewhat improved here, the clunky walking/running around has to go - cover system still doesn't work, etc...

This game could have definitely been released a lot earlier if they cut back on the story length - that had to have been a contributing factor.

I have a feeling multiplayer will get rid of the "passive mode" feature due to the size of the map - it really is the largest map I've eve seen in a game and more than enough room for the amount of players allowed in a session - we'll see.

After it's all said and done, I still loved it and appreciated the work that went into this and I haven't even really free roamed yet - I'm sure I'll fine a ton more to enjoy as well.

The controls are a mess, IMO. I get that they're going for realism... it just feels like so much lost time could be saved going from Point A to Point B. I guess that's my biggest frustration; granted, I'm only about 2.5 hours in.

Re: Red Dead Redemption 2 —> 10/26/18

I just started over the weekend and only pass the first couple of missions, but the slow walking and horse riding is my biggest annoyance and part of the reason I never finished the first game. I'm impatient

I've reached 30% in the story but I'm still having to push myself to do more than 1 or 2 quests at a time. The traveling is so bad. By the time I finish a couple of missions, I need a break.

It has an issue with repetition that RDR2 does not.
Also, it's not a western.

Re: Red Dead Redemption 2 —> 10/26/18

Man, I'm in Chapter 3 and it suuuuucks. Too many busy work missions -- sell this moonshine, deliver this package, drive this carriage through town. Even though I think the gunplay is super weak, especially in these large scripted instances, I'll take a mission that ends in something like that over what I'm getting here in Rhodes.

I do like this game a whole lot but I honestly don't know if I'm going to finish it.

I found out why everyone sick in Armadillo, from the first game, the Sheriff in Armadillo mentioned that not too long ago the entire town was plagued with Cholera, so, there ya go if you were interested.

Just a heads up, Walmart has a $60 steelbook version that is the exact same one as the $100 version at Gamestop. It just doesn't come with the extra in game items.

Make sure you catch a live show in Saint Denis (There are two theaters in saint Denis, go to the one with the live show, not the movie theater) - very well done and so far I went back a second time and it ended up being 3 new shows back to back as well.

Also, Travel becomes much quicker as well when you purchase a better horse and stirrups, etc...
