Re: Red Dead Redemption 2 —> 10/26/18

I'm really torn on getting this. I want to play the game but I'm a bit salty there's no PC version since I just fully upgraded my rig and this would have been a perfect title to show it off. And if I go console, I won't take advantage of my ultra wide monitor since neither console supports the resolution. But it looks so good...

Do you really want to pass up what will surely be one of the best games of this generation just because you have to play it in 1080p instead of 13554110 x 32445470?

Well it's almost a definite that the game will hit PC sometime next year. So the question is do I want to wait. I will be playing it eventually.

Just a heads up that you can use your phone/tablet as your map with the Companion App

Anyone have their order ship from the Rockstar Warehouse?

Should I bang now or should I wait until next year?

Which edition did you get? Might want to just order from BB, pick up Thursday night, and return the other.

Review embargo lifts in a few minutes for those who care.

I still have to play through RDR1, but am scheduled to get this tomorrow.

Re: Red Dead Redemption 2 —> 10/26/18

These reviews are amazing

it succeeds everywhere he travels: exploration, gunfights, stealth, main quest, characters, side quests, customization, acting, hunting, fishing... Name one element, it delivers. And it sure looks like one of the best looking games ever seen and has many secrets yet to be discovered. And so it can be considered as a masterpiece, an extraordinary, legendary game that we will talk about with sincere admiration for ages.

unprecedented depth and an interaction that marks a step forward in the electronic entertainment industry.

One of the best open world games ever, with the single best story ever written for a videogame.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is an immense, breathtaking experience that will be treasured for years to come.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is a landmark title for storytelling, open-world design, voice acting, and immersion in video games. It is certainly among the best games of this console generation, but that's not all. It should eventually go down as one of the greatest games of all-time.

Criticisms often come easier than compliments, but in the case of Red Dead Redemption 2, I am at a loss. This is one of the most gorgeous, seamless, rootinest, tootinest games ever made, and if you voluntarily miss out on it, you’re either not a gamer or in a coma.

Was there any doubt this would get a 9-10 rating? I broke down and bought digital. Can’t wait to play.

Re: Red Dead Redemption 2 —> 10/26/18

Is there anything in the reviews that mentions if one version is better than the other (xbox vs ps4)?

Re: Red Dead Redemption 2 —> 10/26/18

Ps4 version is 1080p xbox one is 864p

As expected, pixel-counts on PlayStation 4 resolve at the de facto standard 1080p, while the Xbox One S - quantifiably the lowest quality experience - delivers just 864p. The effectiveness of Red Dead Redemption 2's temporal anti-aliasing scales in line with pixel-count so while PS4 passes muster, Xbox One S looks blurry and grainy, with a particular impact on the quality of foliage and shadow rendering - which is perhaps not surprising as Microsoft's machine is only managing 66 per cent of full HD resolution.
Eurogamer also said xbox one does a little better with framerate in heavy forests

Thanks. I'm more looking for a Pro/X comparison. I'll read through the reviews at lunch time.

Digital Foundry sez:

* XBX runs in native 4K
* PS4 Pro 1920 x 2160
* XBX best performance with a few drops in towns
* PS4 Pro next best thing with solid framerate in wilderness but again dropping some frames in towns.
I’ve seen some comments that the upscaling/reconstruction on the Pro leaves textures looking a bit soft.

Re: Red Dead Redemption 2 —> 10/26/18

Linky to Digital Foundry comparison, since a few people mentioned it - https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/d...ion-2-face-off

And the conclusion...

While performance can be variable, I'd still say that the PS4 and Xbox One S still hand in more stable frame-rates than the original Red Dead Redemption, with fewer variations in the visual make-up than the last game too. But really, to see this phenomenal game at its absolute best, Xbox One X is the platform of choice - and by quite a considerable margin.
Metacritic is 97 right now - https://www.metacritic.com/game/play...d-redemption-2

Re: Red Dead Redemption 2 —> 10/26/18

I told myself I was gonna wait on this, but I just caved and placed an order for Store Pickup at Best Buy. $48 with GCU for the Standard Edition + Pre order bonuses.

I hemmed and hawed about the special edition, but I decided that it's really not $20 worth of content (or even $16 worth with GCU) and I probably won't ever miss it.

Re: Red Dead Redemption 2 —> 10/26/18

I'm sort of deciding if I want this. Never played original game. I'm not much of a western time period fan. I played GTA V for like 30 minutes before I decided I didn't want to play it. For some reason this game has me intrigued. Not sure what it is. Maybe it is that I haven't played shit for games this year and this seems like the best option of any game until next year when everything hits early (Anthem/Crackdown 3/The Division).

Just read something on Twitter that, currently, this is the best reviewed PS4 and XBox game ever. I gotta' wait till X-mas but I am chomping at the bit to play this.
