Yeah, mine must have started at midnight, when I woke up early and saw, it was only 73% complete and that’s with pretty good internet speed...

I'm anticipating this game getting 9's and 10's and people saying it's overrated

Looks like review embargo isn't up until October 25th early in the morning.

This game is basically review proof. I've avoided every game trailer sans the teaser trailers. Going in completely blind I'll be shocked if it turns out to be shit.

Good to know when it's time to disconnect from the internet

I will say that it does seem like Rockstar has become the developer to close out the console generation(as in no one wants to try and touch what they do afterwards). GTA5 closed out the PS3 and it looks like RDR2 will close out the PS4 cycle.

Re: Red Dead Redemption 2 > 10/26/18

I cancelled my preorder. I'll probably pick it up closer to Christmas time. I've played a bunch of long games in a row and am still 50 hours into DQXI so I'd like to play through some of the shorter games I'm interested in first.

The Last of Us 2 will probably close it out. I don't see any AAA games that could compete with that or Red Dead.

You didn't miss much. They probably only released like 10-15 minutes of actual game video out of a 60-65HR story. I wish more developers/film studios would take that hint and stop giving the story away.

I feel like I'm the only person who still doesn't give a single fuck about a story in a video game - it's nice that they're there, but enough to be worried about spoilers? Actually, give me spoilers, so I know if it'll be worth playing for more than 20 hours or not.

That, but mostly world/setting, and discovering new locations and interesting gameplay mechanics. A sense of immersiveness.

I'd say Spider-Man is the sort of game that's twice as good because of the story. Yes the swinging mechanic is fun and the fighting can be entertaining and the setting is very cool. But playing to find where the story is going makes the whole thing so much more involving.
I'm looking forward to RDR2 mostly for the story. It looks deep and involving and the first one was terrific.

Re: Red Dead Redemption 2 > 10/26/18

I love story based games, they make up the bulk of the type of games i'm interested in. My favorite games the last few years have basically been story driven, whether it be AAA games like Spider-Man, God of War, or Uncharted to small indie games like What Remains of Edith Finch or Night in the Woods. The way the story unfolds in these games is a major selling point for me.

Same here, 100%. Even if I find a story engaging at first, it will not hold my interest over the course of 10, 20, 30 hours. It's just not going to happen.

Yep, me too. I don't usually bother with multiplayer or time filler games anymore. I just have too much to do these days and as a film lover I appreciate well-crafted stories.

and a good story wouldn't be more immersive? do you just skip all cut scenes? i'm not judging, just curious.

some of the detail that goes into some of these stories and character development is simply jaw dropping. i mean Odyssey alone is drenched in character and story. what the developers thought of and put into, i can't even begin to understand that whole process. without, i'm not sure the purpose of playing. yes, i love great gameplay, but what i'm playing for has to add into the enjoyment.

i love what you describe too, but to have some story and therefore some emotional connection, even in games where story is less important (let's face it, even some of the Halo stories and lore in the games were more than i could follow), but i still love that mental attachment to characters or the world i'm in. it makes the overall experience that much better...

Re: Red Dead Redemption 2 > 10/26/18

In most games, I skip a lot of cut scenes, and/or don't pay attention to them.

As far as story/characters are concerned, videogames still have a ways to go before they can catch up with movies, and especially novels. Each medium has a different strength, but due to player choice and gameplay, story will never be a videogame's primary strength - if it is, it will suck as a game (i.e. Telltale "games").
