Video games ruined by a single part (SPOILERS, I'm sure)
Playing Dead Space for the first time this week and was LOVING it...
...until tonight when I got to the Asteroids on level 4. Had to play that part about 20 times and it really took me out of the game and the fun as it just became frustrating.
Thought not saying it ruined the game, per say, got me thinking of games that could have been ruined but just a part or two.

The "end" of the NES' Ghosts 'n Goblins very nearly drove me to drink at a very tender age.

I hated, HATED the Star Destroyer level in The Force Unleashed... come to find out the producers admitted there was a bug which told you to point the controllers in one directions but in reality you were supposed to go in the opposite direction. Real nice.

Re: Video games ruined by a single part (SPOILERS, I'm sure)
Dead Space ( There are some very frustrating parts in the game, where you need more ammo then you have and theres no ammo to be found even backtracking. it was so frustrating that I couldnt get past a part that I had to go and use a code for AMMO. I believe this was the part when the one girl is trying to do something at a computer terminal and you have to defend her from waves of enemies. The astroid part was also hard.
Star Wars Force unleashed. The last level when you had to bring down the star destroyer but you were getting constantly hit by Tie fighters, I really wanted to throw my controller at the tv. Worst level in a game I have ever played. so much so that I now have a negative opinion of that game.

There have been a handful of games that frustrated me so much I stopped playing either completely or for a while. Portal was the most recent.

The one thing you can do to help in Dead Space is use the stasis refill code that has unlimited uses. That way if you run out of ammo you could just keep freezing the enemies and pounding them into oblivion. This is what I will do when I go on my impossible run.

King's Quest 5...there is a moment where you have to save a mouse from a cat....you have a small window to do this in, and it is easy to miss it. The game then lets you play away, thinking everything is fine, until farther in the game you die because you did not save that mouse. By itself not bad, but to let you play for so long and then kill you...UGH..

Somewhat ironic, I was going through my list of Arcade games last night and stumbled onto a game I hadn't played much of (couldn't recall why I gave up) and decided to give it a go. After 20 minutes I realized why I had quit in the first place.
Fuck you Ikaruga. FUUUUUUCK you.
So yeah, it's the part where you press start and play the game. It just goes downhill after that.

Re: Video games ruined by a single part (SPOILERS, I'm sure)
I thought of another one. I loved Psychonauts, but the final level ramped up the difficulty astronomically and it went on forever. There were actually 3 spots where I thought I had beaten the game, only to find I had another insanely difficult area to traverse followed by another annoying boss fight.
If I hadn't have loved the first 90% of that game, I never would've pushed to finish it.

Turn the in-game brightness option all the way up (and then save, or you'll have to set it again and again). It makes the part much easier.

Re: Video games ruined by a single part (SPOILERS, I'm sure)
How about the bug for Brutal Legend (PS3 at least) where your save file can become unreadable? It's especially bad because the game only has one file, so if you want to back up often you have to copy it to a USB drive or something instead of just using multiple save slots like other games. Granted, it doesn't happen until after you finish the story, and I had a save backed up from the day before, but it was enough to keep me from bothering with the collectibles.
Also, the torture sequence in Metal Gear Solid caused me to stop playing it back when it was current. I've since found out that you don't HAVE to survive it, but it's still frustrating bullshit.

Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. I hated the wagon escort part so much I stopped playing. recently after a couple of years I decided to try again. Started off on the same part, hated it even more and havent gone back to it since.

Re: Video games ruined by a single part (SPOILERS, I'm sure)
Every escort mission this side of Resident Evil 4 and Half-Life 2 is utter garbage, and I cringe every time I come across one.
For the 2 weeks I owned a 360, I played just enough Gears of War to realize that I was playing as a complete douchebag. If I actively dislike my character, that's not helpful.
Terrible final bosses: X-men Origins: Wolverine...and they didn't ruin the games, but Bioshock and Batman: Arkham Asylum as well.
