Help needed on games not loading on old style PS2

I have an old style PS2 and two games that recently got Simpsons Hit % Run and Red Faction don't load. Well they load to a certain point, but after that... nothing. I've noticed that my PS2 will freeze during cetrain games at some points, but that is always during game play.

With Red Faction I get a screen that says something about looking for the DVD loading with "." to indicate time passing/cycling, but after 8 "." it just keeps on cycling. The disc itself is clean, no scratches or anything.

Any help or advice is most appreciated.

sounds like the laser is going bad. eventually it will not recognize any discs. my advice would be to splurge on a new PS2. or have it repaired.

Yea buddy a new ps2 would be the best way to go. I don't know your financial situation, but they aren't terribly expensive.

I'd try opening it up and wiping the lens with a scratch-free cloth. My launch fatty had problems a couple years back and this simple fix solved it (although my issue sounds a little different than yours, but it couldn't hurt trying).
