I know, god bless 'em. It would be crazy to hire a community manager to act as a conduit between the craziness and us poor schmucks who give them money. A fool's errand. I'm glad they're smarter than that, plucky nerd musicians.

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution

Just want to get an opinion or two before I spend more money: Should I get a "pro-guitar?"

I am a Hard to Expert player but I have seemed to have plateaued and don't see me ever being able to 5 star or even complete any and every Expert level song no matter how much I practice. That being said, should I even consider getting and trying the pro-guitar? I have an interest in both the Mustang and the Squire though I have heard that the Squire is a long way away. I have also read a few good impressions so far on the Mustang and wouldn't mind trying something different.

So the question is really do I play well enough to try the next level since I can't seem to finish all the Expert songs? Would the pro-guitar still be fun for someone at my skill level?

Anyone have any insight on this? Thanks!

Well the industry is getting more and more like this. Developers go into hiding at launch and don't say a word when massive amounts of issues crop up. It sucks. It used to be that being an early hardware adopter was the problem, now it's software too.

I don't think you should consider Pro-Guitar as the "next level". It's really completely different to playing the normal guitar/bass mode. Very little of what you do with non-pro guitar translates into actual guitar playing. It's not like going from drums to pro-drums.

Other than the stage kit and the RB2 exporting, what major issues have there been?

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution

for me, I'm not quite understanding career mode. It appears to be a bunch of goals. So if you play in Quick Play, do they count towards the goals? Is that how it is working?

well I guess that makes more sense instead of mindly playing quick play, it'll actually count towards stuff.

Just because you fail a song doesn't necessarily mean you would have gotten a low score if you passed. Sure you wouldn't FC it but there is a wide range between those things. However, if you fail you should get no score at all, and with no fail on you should also get no score as if you had failed. HMX seems to know this, because if you choose 'Continue' you get no score. Too bad they seem to have a lack of focus now...I'm pretty sure I can see why Dan Teasdale left.

On another note, I tried to play Stigmata on Expert Pro Drums last nite. That was amusing, for around 10 seconds, and then I failed (as I should have!)

^ But in RB2 it would have taken 11.27 seconds

Right, but it should be lower than the person that didn't fail, thus still making the person not needing to use "No Fail" higher on the Leaderboards.

What did you replace the snare with? I need a new one.

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution

fro, you're wrong.

We all know that some people fail on the easy parts intentionally because they can 100% the GGaHT solos. And they'll beat someone that can only 94% the solos, but nail everything else.

It is a Roland PDX-8. I got it used on Ebay, although it still wasn't cheap, $115 shipped.

No, not necessarily at all. It appears that you have an oversimplified view of this situation, and therefore should probably refrain from discussing it unless you are prepared to take a step back and actually consider what people are telling you

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution

Honestly, my biggest issue with the "No Fail" thing is the fact that it saves the scores locally. Sometimes with RB2 I'll turn on No Fail and purposely play the songs I know I can't pass, just to see how I do with them. Now if I do that I have no way to differentiate between the songs I can pass or not.

Sort of similar to the whole RBN Pro-drums issue, if there was some indication for the ones that have pro-mode then I wouldn't really be too bothered about the fact that many of the songs don't actually have pro-drums support. Of course many of the charting groups are going back and re-charting those songs, but have said that "unfortunately" there is no way to patch or update a song, so we would have to buy that song again instead.

But you can NOT turn No Fail on, fail, and then continue in RB3, right? Bonus that it won't save the score. Since it's local anyway, are you saying that it's not on the public leaderboards? If not, what's the issue?
