Granted I'm not really THAT familiar with their work, but everything I've heard from them has made me want to kick a dozen pigeons. I don't get anything about them or why they're considered to be so magnificent. In fact, they make me angry... "GABBY HAYES" ANGRY!!

I urge you all to listen to Clouds Taste Metallic. If you don't like that album, you won't ever like The Flaming Lips.

I'm a huge Lips fan, while I still like their recent music it doesn't touch the aforementioned run from Transmissions to Yoshimi. I met Wayne Coyne at a music festival about 5 years ago, I was so nervous I couldn't stop stuttering and after I left I had the shakes for 15 minutes. I've never been affected like that.

I will take up that offer, give it a listen, and report back forthwith!

I would say listen to Soft Bulliten. CTM is a great example of their old sound but everything changed after that.

And you can stream a new Cake song here: http://www.spin.com/articles/exclusi...g-cake-6-years

It's okay, but if they put it on RB I'd grab it. Some Cake is better than no Cake.

We don't know what next week's DLC is, right? No rumors? This feels like the first time in ages I can look forward to Friday morning again. I like it this way, personally.

Apparently their hate for their hits was outweighed by their love for that sweet, sweet Apple money. . .

If we're going to ever get some Cake, I want to play "Sheep Go to Heaven".

I agree that the 90s are not well represented in RB. Give us some Collective Soul, Live, and The Wallflowers please.

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution

Regarding Cake...I can really get how a band can get sick of a popular song of theirs, but why does that mean they can't let their fans enjoy it? It's not like they would have do anything but sign a contract and deposit the royalty checks if they put their songs in the game.

Nice to know they have a new album coming out. I can't believe I haven't bought anything from them since Comfort Eagle. Might pick up Pressure Chief and the B Sides disc along with the new one.

That would make for a great set list alongside The Pixies' "Monkey Gone to Heaven"

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution

One of the questions asked earlier has been addressed in this Q&A with John Drake:

Will pro-charted DLC be modular in nature? For example, if I buy “Burning Down the House” without pro-guitar for $1.99, and then decide later that I want to play pro-guitar, can I buy a pro-chart “add-on” DLC to supplement my initial purchase, or is there only normal DLC ($1.99) and pro-DLC ($X.99), meaning I’ll have to decide initially which one I want so I don’t waste money?

We’re still working out specifics, but the current plan features the normal instrumentation (now including Keys, Pro Keys, Pro Drums and Harmony Vocals when those parts exist) as the standard package with pro-guitar/bass being a separate add on pack for those interested.
If pro guitar/bass require an additional download, I wonder if that means extra headaches for the PS3.

Maybe I don't understand how DLC works on PS3, but why would this be a problem?

Isn't Sony being really pissy about how many different files are available for download?

The main problem with getting Cake in RB is that there's no trumpet. Yet.

Same issue that keeps PS3 from getting more than 5 RBN songs per week, I assume.

You can always use Keys for synth horn. Isn't that what they're doing with James Brown - I Feel Good?

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution

How are they still working out the specifics of pro DLC? It launches in a month, that seems like the sort of thing they would have locked down by now. I guess I kind of expected to have pro-DLC at launch.

You will have pro DLC at launch. They're just not telling you how much you're going to pay for it yet.

I don't know if this is a dig or not, but Amazon has the Mustang slated for 10/26 as well.

I gave "Clouds Taste Metallic" an honest listen, and I can pretty much say TFL isn't my thing. That said, it didn't make me as mentally anguished as my previous exposure to their music did. I just didn't connect. But at least they are out of pigeon genocide territory!

I don't think it was a dig. I just think most people don't think the Mustang counts. It's a pathetic stop-gap and should have been scrapped.

Re: The Official Rock Band Thread of Music Game Evolution

The Mustang would make sense if it cost the same price as a regular Rock Band guitar.
