June 2010 NPDs

June US console software sales fell 15 per cent year-over-year to $531.3 million, according to data from the NPD Group.

The poor performance was a result of a lack of big new releases in the States. Only two new games made the monthly top ten, the DS version of Toy Story 3 coming in seventh place and Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4 for Wii in ninth.

Tiger Woods Woods PGA Tour 11 failed to crack the top ten, but sold over 100,000 copies, according to Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter.

The top three from May continued to lead the chart, the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of Red Dead Redemption taking first and third respectively, with Super Mario Galaxy 2 sandwiched in between them.

Rockstar's western is now the bestselling game of 2010 in the States, having shifted almost 2.5 million copies, while Galaxy 2 has topped one million sales, Nintendo said.

01. Red Dead Redemption (Take-Two, Xbox 360) - 582,900
02. Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Nintendo, Wii) - 548,400
03. Red Dead Redemption (Take-Two, PS3) - 380,300
04. New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Nintendo, Wii) - 200,900
05. Just Dance (Ubisoft, Wii) - 174,800
06. Wii Fit Plus (Nintendo, Wii) - 148,000
07. Toy Story 3 (Disney, NDS) - 164,000
08. UFC 2010: Undisputed (THQ, Xbox 360)
09. LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4 (Warner Bros., Wii), 136,000
10. UFC 2010: Undisputed (THQ, PS3)

How does that POS Just Dance sell that much month after month. I have a hard time getting my head around that one.

NPD only supplies numbers for 1-5. Nintendo actually supplied the rest.

Re: June 2010 NPDs

to add to that
PC World - Retail video game sales fell slightly in June, dragged under by anemic handheld hardware and software sales, but bolstered by strong console unit growth. Helped by new model sales, the Xbox 360 topped the Wii for the first time in months, pulling ahead of Nintendo's console by roughly 30,000 units, and Sony's PS3 by a comfortable 147,000 unit spread.

Wow. Alan Wake, Split/Second & Blur wiped off the face of the map in a matter of weeks.

Re: June 2010 NPDs

Remember how Alan Wake was on everybody's most anticipated list for what, five years?

Re: June 2010 NPDs

I'm surprised that the Best Buy giveaway of Blur didn't affect sales at all.
