Where are you guys getting this? Deals that I've seen:

-Kmart - $20 gaming gift card of some sort (I think it's $20 off a future purchase)
-Target - $10 gift card
-Amazon - $58 and 3 free digital issues of The Hockey News (-rolleyes-)

Any others?

I'm probably just going to use an Amazon gaming credit that needs to be used. Wish there was one for this game, or that it was at least a few bucks cheaper.

I just ordered from Amazon because I had a $20 promo credit from something-or-another. If I wasn't paying it forward, I'd have gone elsewhere. First time that I can recall Amazon dropping the ball (relatively speaking) on a new release I wanted. -ohbfrank- is the only response for three digital issues of The Hockey News.

They mention the framerate issues in Be a Pro. Ive found that in just regular game mode when you use the action camera which is low to the ice same as in BAP. Shame they cant seem to fix that. They posted the exact same review for PS3 and 360 but i have a 360 and that issue has been in the last few years. Otherwise a stellar review

I didn't play last year's game, was BAP improved from 09? Because I didn't play it much anyways, so if that's one of their biggest gripes, it doesn't bother me.

And of course the reviewer complains of no real upgrades to Be a GM mode, when the addition of RFA's is (IMO) a pretty big addition.

The review is just... odd. It lauds the Ultimate Team depth and calls it "the largest and most expansive dynasty mode ever seen in a game." But it gives the game an 8.5 because of Be a Pro and Be a GM are only "tweaked in the right direction" -- citing the new checking physics and the broken sticks. So BaP and BaGM are slightly improved and the UT feature is freaking amazing... and it get's an 8.5 whereas NHL09 got a 9.0? Not that a review sways my opinion of this game... but c'mon, this game is better than DeathSpank.

I don't remember BaP09 being radically different from BaP08. The changes were in gameplay not the mode itself. The fact that we have other leagues (CHL) and RFA/UFA systems now alters the dynamics of these modes greatly, IMO. The presentation may not change... but that's not a big deal.

There were PS3 headset issues? Were you playing with Slider?

unless the reviewers of NHL11 and NHL09 are the same person it is irrelevent

however NHL09 was revolutionary and a breakout for EA in terms of bringing a non arcady NHL game to the market (especially with the addition of BAP which actually was improved with NHL10)

BAP was not in 08
just an extended player creation tool

That review reeks of a promotional push from EA given that the Ultimate Team thing is something they're REALLY pushing heavily. The score is certainly odd given all the other changes.

I actually meant '10 in that post. Oops. '09 was the great leap forward... really not worth comparing there. I just figured they'd have to base everything on '10, diff reviewer or not.

Yeah, I'm apparently living in 2009. Because I'm conveniently leaving a year out of all my posts. I had 08 in my head as 09. And 09 in my head as 10.

Move along. Nothing to see here.

Perhaps the most notable criticism is the lack of player personality on the ice. Notorious hitters like Cal Clutterbuck rarely finish their checks, and star players like Alexander Ovechkin don’t play markedly different from any other forward.
unless the demo was just an anomoly this is just not true

Yeah, that doesn't make any sense. I regularly destroy people with Zdeno Chara in the UT. I find it harder to make checks with people that shouldn't be making checks though. If this corrects the "wall-sucking" I'm all for it.

I'll be picking it up sometime this week.

The additions of RFAs and CHL players is awesome.

you may need to add hitting posts to the thread title. I have played 3 games so far and I have hit 15 posts.

Dropkick Murphys, 2 Unlimited, the list goes on.

That happened last year, too. Way too many in each game.

I am 0-2-1 in my first three games. I had a goal waved off because my stick was over the crossbar on a redirected shot.

Oh and there have been something like 10 broken sticks in my three games.

I saw it today but i actually passed up on buying it. For the first time ever i said screw you EA Sports! I cant believe after three years they still haven't fixed the stuttering issue. Yes it didn't make the game unplayable but there's no excuse for that when your programming a game for consoles where you know exactly the specs your dealing with.

I knew broken sticks was gonna just be an annoyance. Really EA, this was the most requested thing for this years game?

I will skip this year.

Re: NHL11: The Official Thread of Broken Sticks and Disallowed Goals

loving the game so far

only have toyed around with HUT on default rookie settings and won the Rookie Cup tournament, not much of a challenge but a loaded Team Russia gave me a scare in the semis jumping out to a 1 goal lead and dangling the puck all around

out of my 1 free pack of cards and 3 bonus packs I only got 2 NHL'ers but was somewhat happy since one of them was Ryan O'Reilly from my Lanche

I'm not big on management aspects of sports games but I think I'm going to put in some good time with HUT before moving on to my standard BAP mode ... one thing I have a question on for those in the know, the tutorial says when one of your players contract number hits zero he will retire .. do you have a last chance (or a warning) to extend his contract when it hits zero before he retires and you can no longer use him?

I love the broken sticks ... don't think they have been excessive in the least .... love it when a broken stick is laying on the ice and you have to be able to maneuver and pass around it so as not to slow down/deflect the puck

from what little I've played, EA has once again (used to be a 2K supporter so once again is pretty much from 08-09) taken the best hockey game to date and improved upon it again

For people that have this in their grubby little mitts, there have been some complaints about the frequency of the broken sticks... but isn't there a slider to increase or decrease how often this happens?

Sticks break a lot in a regular hockey game. So I'm not really concerned about it, but if it's hindering your affection for NHL11 can't you adjust?

Re: UT -- IIRC, each player has an expiration date (retire date) and a number of games left on their current contract (which can be extended with the contract cards) on their card from the moment you get him. You can extend as long as you have games left on their career. When the career number reaches zero, that guy's donezo.
