Just finished the single player, beat the co-op over the weekend. Probably my favorite game to come along in a long while.

I felt they had sufficiently different mechanics, especially once you have to start using bridges as shields or the tunnels to "grab" objects, that I wasn't bothered by their similarities.

I don't remember bridges putting things in a state of perpetual motion.

Portal, sadly, will be nowhere near GOTY. It's awesome, but not popular like Call of Duty or anything. My guess is LA Noire since Rockstar always wins GOTY, or maybe Gears 3. Skyrim has a chance, but the other 3 you mentioned do not.

For me, personally, it will be Battlefield 3, Saint's Row or Batman :)

I think people were talking more personally, but even then I imagine it'll get a lot of love from major gaming sites. It's got a pretty big following.

Stephen Merchant deserves a lot of praise for bringing Wheatley to life, even if it's just Stephen Merchant. It's so natural and so well-integrated that, to me, it's really perfect casting and execution.

Make the tunnels bullet proof and you don't need bridges.

Finally got my Professor Portal achievement tonight. Now to finish all of co-op test 4 without dying and I'm 1000/1000!

You don't think Mass Effect 3 and Uncharted 3, both games in series that have won many game of the year awards, don't have a chance to win game of the year? :hscratch:

Finished co-op tonight, was kind of disappointed that it just ended after all that. Was hoping for more.

Stopped by the library tonight and was surprised they had this to rent already. Perfect timing since I just finished the first one over the weekend.

Fail.

First, the bridges can't carry gel and second, they can't be used for vertical travel. Bullet proof tunnels for the win.

Nothing better than dancing in front of a bullet proof tunnel and getting an achievement..

Fail.

First, the tunnels can't be coated with usable gel and second, they can't be used for standing still. Tunnels and light bridges living together in harmony for the win, you monster.

You can put gel on the bridges though. It's used a couple times in co-op.

Also co-op features the need to travel by tunnel and block turrets with light bridges, which requires teamwork. That would be lost if the tunnels were made bullet proof.

Man, I really enjoyed this game! The dialogue was great and the voice actors (JK Simmons being my favorite) fit perfectly. Finished single over the weekend, should finish co-op this weekend.

I finally finished this last night, Loved most of it but I'm going to have to go against the popular consensus and say the single player mode was a little too long -- you could feel the padding in spots and it kind of dragged down the pace.

Would have loved a slightly shorter single player campaign but have them add a single player puzzle mode (or some of the levels GladOS made and kept as souveniors.) I would say it took me around 8 hours to finish it off, which is pretty much average these days.

Re: Portal 2 PS3/PC/360

If you listen to the commentary, a lot of the "padding" fell into a couple categories:

1. Training and hints for the next puzzle
2. Breaks for the player, chances to show off the world / advance the story.

I love the commentary Valve does for their games. I wish more development houses would follow suit.

The ps3 ones after this will probably continue to be free as valve has said they don't like to charge for dlc only doing so because on L4D and such MS MADE them do it. First dlc on 360 is always free and every one from what I hear after is required to have a price as per microsoft agreement.

That was one of the things that spurned newell's harsh words recently about 360.

For those with the PS3 version, can you access the STEAM version without having put the disc in the PS3?

I'm asking because I don't have a PS3 yet, but that version seems like the one to get.

No, you have to start Portal 2 on the PS3, then link your PSN and Steam accounts, then connect to Steam on your PC while Portal 2 is running on your PS3.

And before you do any of that, you need to have PSN up and running first. I'm still waiting..... :grumble:

This isn't how it worked for me. I had to link my PSN account to Steam on the PS3 version of the game, and then enter a code into Steam on the PC side.
