Wasn't a PS3 collector's edition supposed to be announced at Comic Con?

Huh? You said yourself that the game has been in development for 5 years, so well before Arkham Asylum's success. And it seems like simulating that game's success might be the intent with the Green Lantern game coming out.

And wasn't Justice League Heroes somewhat of a Marvel Ultimate Alliance clone?

Ahhh man, It's going to be tough to choose this fall. Cataclysm is more than likely going to be coming out around November as well. Here's hoping they can improve on the standard that City of Heroes and Champions Online have set in character creation and gameplay.

Either way, both will be occupying my time until The Old Republic.

apparently, the only collector's edition is for PC.

What I mean is that Arkham Asylum took one year to develop, so they could have focus on that to make a Superman game or a Justice League game for fans like me that aren't into MMO. And yes, Justice League Heroes was a clone, but it was really inferior and very limited. You could use characters certain sections. It has been almost 5 years since that game was released.

I don't have high hopes for this game and I'm afraid that if it doesn't do well, like many MMO have done on consoles like the PS3, DC will continue doing only Batman games and use DC property for kids game like Batman: The Brave and the Bold or tie-ins like the Green Lantern film. DC, because of Warner Brothers, is so much more corporate than Marvel, than instead of looking at why the numbers don't reach expectations, they just use those numbers to make drastic decisions, for example, like what they are doing with the straight-to-DVD animated features.

That's why I chose my words carefully there.

From what I read, it took almost 2 years to develop. That and different studios work on different games anyway, so developing an MMO doesn't preclude them from working on anything else. That's irrelevant to DC/Warner not commissioning work on other games featuring other heroes. That or they have, but the games just haven't been announced yet.

This would have been an amazing sandbox-style action game. But an MMO? No thanks.

Re: DC Universe Online - November 2010

Got access to the Closed Beta today. Downloading now and will probably play a bit tonight after work.

I wasn't super impressed with the demo I played at E3 this year, but it's tough to get a read on a MMO after spending 15 minutes with it on the show floor.

Re: DC Universe Online - November 2010

So I played around with it a bit last night. Leveled up a character based off the Flash's powers up to level 6 within a couple hours. I definitely think they nailed travel down really well with super-speeders, and much better than City of Heroes. I immediately got the sense that I was a full blown superhero, even at a low level. The fact that I can run super fast on every surface, vertical or horizontal, solid or liquid, is exactly how it should be.

I've been poking around Metropolis mostly. Ran to the top of LexCorp as well as the Daily Planet. I'm probably going to build a flyer next and see if I can take a look around Gotham City.

Re: DC Universe Online - November 2010

Apparently the NDA was lifted Monday on beta users, but alas there is still no PS3 beta.

Playstation Plus users got let into the Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood beta for PS3, hopefully they'll do the same for this...

but that's just the core. once you launch the game, you have to download all the game elements. it's something close to 15 gigs of data.

The beta also just hit the store for PS+ members. Guess I should've waited a couple hours before redeeming my code. Oh well.
