A huge number of people already have a unit with an external HDD. When RRoDs occur you swap drives with the new refurb and everything is golden. Having a SKU that doesn't use that standard could much everything up.

If the internal drive is a standard HDD like the PS3 this could be very nice. The design doesn't exactly make me want to run out and get one, but neither did the PS3 slim. Down the road if I needed to replace a 360 I wouldn't mind getting one of these if this new design doesn't red ring on you after a year.

Re: Say Hello to the Slim Xbox 360
I tought people over at the 360 camp always said that Wi-Fi and a big HD were not necessary.
But then again, they said the same about HDMI ports and HD format Disc player, and look what happened.
This thing is going to be at least $350.00 retail.
Also, if this ends up being legit, it must be the best kept secret in the business, because for it not to become another RRoD-like fiasco, it sure has been in development for at least a couple of years.
And it should, because if it tanks in realiablility, Microsoft is not going to live it up.

HDMI Ports were not needed in 2005 since very few TVs had the ports. Nor was HD DVD or Blu-ray since neither was ready in 2005.
I think everyone was happier paying $299/$399 for their 360 in 2005 vs people who paid $499/$599 a year later for a PS3. MS could have delayed the 360 and jacked up the price like Sony did.

They did? I'm not in any "camp" but my biggest complaint of the 360 from day one was that it didn't have built-in wifi.HD format disc players are needed? That's odd, the 360 has a huge library -- and all of the games were released in DVD format. As for the HDMI issue, GizmoDVD addressed it perfectly. Once that became more common, they added it to the console. No big deal.
At least in Xbox 360's case, they are not removing stuff like Sony did with the PS3 post-launch.
Let's get this thread back on track.

Agree with the ones surprised about the new design this late. I want to think that's not true. But they were right about Kinect before it was released. I still have my doubts.
Now, if this is real, they are really looking for a 10 years life span.
