Latest blog where they call out Rock Band 3: http://powergig.com/buzz/power-gig-a...al-differences
As little interest as I have in this game (except for liking some of the songs and artists a lot), I have no problem with that blog post. First of all, it's a blog, not a press release. Second of all, is there anything they say there that isn't 100% true? Thirdly, I sort of like that they're reaching out to gamers who are fond of the other guitar games and saying essentially that you can play our guitar with your games. I think it's a pretty good strategy.

If it fails hardcore, will the exclusive artists be soured against a viable music-gaming platform? I'd hate to see Clapton or DMB or (shudder) even Kid Rock not even give RB or GH a chance.

I think the PowerGig guys just know that they are effed, so they may as well swing wildly at the competition. What do they have to lost at this point?

Re: Power Gig: Rise of the SixString - Real Guitar Music Game (PS3, 360)

I played this at PAX last week and its not for me. For one, the guitar is pretty hefty(heavy even) and two, the strings hurt. I imagine folks who know how to play guitar are not bothered by this but as someone who does not - there was no fun in this game for me.

However I must give them credit that guitar out of game mode (where you can just play as a guitar) sounded pretty good.

I give this game 5.75 transforming pig-men guitar shredders...out of 4.

Things are getting a little strange. It's supposedly out today, but both Amazon and Best Buy say it's backordered, Gamestop still has it listed as a pre-order, and there are zero reviews on the web.

Yeah, we are waiting on our copy as well. Me thinks they ran into some manufacturing shortages.

But there is a review in the Pittsburgh Post Gazette. Because everyone knows that when you want game reviews, you think the Gazette. lol Link

Re: Power Gig: Rise of the SixString - Real Guitar Music Game (PS3, 360)

Some quick info I've gathered.

-Apparently on the Power Gig forums, one of the people working on the game said it was probably shipping out 'today and tomorrow.' So most likely they will not have copies of the game in store for their own launch.

-As for the game's promise of 'Rock it Real!' it ends up besides their lack of grammar, the game also lacks in gameplay based in reality. Per a Rock Band Forum post from someone who has played it:
it doesn't require you to play more than two notes together (only power chords). it only uses the first 5 frets, and only the power chords are musically accurate (rest of the notes are random).
I did find a video from the developer on youtube talking about the game only teaching 2-note power chords. However, he says that if you play the chords enough, you 'walk away with the fundamental skills of playing real guitar'.

I'm still kind of amazed that this product will actually end up on store shelves. If you thought the GH:WoR sales figures were low, you ain't seen nothin' yet.

Re: Power Gig: Rise of the SixString - Real Guitar Music Game (PS3, 360)

There's a part in the review linked from the Gazette about how the graphics look like they'd be at home on the original Xbox or PS2. So they didn't spend their time on graphics, and apparently didn't spend it on making a realistic guitar experience beyond power chords. What DID they spend it on?

They were too busy spending time playing Rock Band.

If they'd only put half the time invested on making the guitar real into making the drums real. Well.. maybe not.

Forget Clapton, DMB, and Kid Rock, it sounds like the Power Gig guys are rocking out to Steve Miller Band's "Take the Money and Run."

Amazon seems to think they'll be shipping out by Nov. 1st now. Nice job guys... couldn't even get the game out before RB3.
