Quite the month for the PS3. Without checking the historic numbers, I'm pretty sure this is the first time they've had 4 of the top 10 sellers for a month.

And 1.3M for FF13, really huge numbers.

Great numbers for GOWIII since it was only out for two weeks in March. Also good to see BC2 doing well on both systems.

why the huge difference between the two Pokemon games - aren't they like 95% the same game?

Not to mention the HUGE sales advantage they had is FF XIII sales. Remember how people thought that FF XIII going multi-console would be a huge blow to the PS3 brand? I guess it wasn't.

It probably didn't help that the 360 version was so bad in comparison.

More like 99%. Maybe 95% the same as Diamond & Pearl, and 90% the same as Ruby & Sapphire, 80% same as Gold & Silver, etc... I really envy how little Nintendo has to spend development wise to make back 100's of millions of dollars per game. And now there are rumors of another round this fall with Pokemon Black and White.

Regarding the sales difference, I'm not sure why. But I bought Silver because it was significantly cheaper on Amazon compared to Gold (like $5 or $6 less).

Yeah it's interesting. In Japan there was almost no difference in sales between the two versions. I would suspect that the average American teenager thinks "Soul Silver" is a cooler subtitle.

Yet it isn't bad on its own, there are a lot of multiconsole owners out there

A very good month for PS3. And I keep expecting the DS numbers to fall off, but man! Who is buying these? Everyone has to have at least 2 by now.

Yes, it does.

Re: March 2010 NPD

Everybody keeps saying this is "a great month for PS3"...a beg to differ. It is a great month for Sony but not necessarily the PS3. Arguably two of the biggest games to date (system sellers if you will) for the PS3 are released in the same month, yet the 360 still outsells it?

Does the PS3 have a true killer AAA title?

i.e. The PS3 has sold roughly 13 million units
Week 4 of GoWIII -- 95,000 (total 1.22 million)

Nov. 7 2009
PS3 ~ 10 million
Week 4 Uncharted 2 -- 61,000 (total 696,000)

July 5 2008
PS3 ~ 5.3 million
Week 4 of MGS4 -- 45,000 (total 1 million)

Nov. 29 2008
360 ~ 14 million units sold
Week 4 of GoW2 -- 186,000 (total 1.99 million)

Dec. 2 2006
360 ~ 4 million
Week 4 of GoW -- 192,000 (total 1.3 million)

Oct. 20 2007
360 ~ 8 million
Week 4 of Halo 3 -- 128,000 (total 3.8 million)

It seems by week 4 the PS3 exclusives have blown their proverbial load, while the 360 exclusives are still going strong. Perhaps it is more telling of the right time of year to release a game? We all expected Halo 3 to be huge (and ODST did better than any of these PS3 exclusives as well). But would anyone have thought that the original Gears of War would sell more than God of War III? Especially considering the 360 had 1/3 the install base when Gears was released that the PS3 has now?

It is not meant to be a dig on the PS3, but it seems both Wii and 360 have several "multi" million sellers (not taking into account multi-platformers such as GTAIV and COD)...PS3 has 1, MGS4 that has broken 2 million (and 6 others over 1 million, again, exclusives only and in reference to North America).

(Left 4 Dead has outsold MGS4)

Wii has it's Marios and Zeldas, 360 has it's Halos and Gears.

PS3 has released their big guns:

Uncharted 1&2
Resistance 1&2
Killzone 2
LittleBigPlanet
MGS4
infamous
FFXIII*
GoWIII

None of which can compete with the big guns of the other two systems. Again, all great games, why aren't they selling more?

*(not exclusive, but still considered a PS3 big gun)

I don't know, I don't think the sales results are the whole story. Since the announcement was a couple years ago, I think people definitely bought 360's thinking they would be able to play FF13 on it and not need a PS3. The landscape has changed since then, with a cheaper PS3 version available, so I think the number of dual console owners increased. With the PS3 version being better, I imagine those people bought the PS3 version. I still think the fact that the game is available on 360 swayed a lot of sales towards the console.

There are still PS3 shortages in the stores, that was probably why.
