Ever purchased a game SO bad you could not get yourself to finish it?
stole this from the G4 forums.
i've really had some good luck with blind buys and what not. only two systems i've had in my adult life are Gamecube and 360.
but, i bought P.N. 03 @ full price for Gamecube. not even sure why at this point. even the reviews were terrible and i am usually swayed by them. it was a 3rd person shooter, hot girl in lead, but i put this in, played not even a level and haven't revisited it since. it was just repetitive and boring i think.

I don't understand the subject line.
A game you really wanted but when you got it, you didn't actually play it?

bad might not be the right term but I never finished Star Wars: Force Commander
I don't remember the full details but there was a mission that by the time you built enough troops to win the battle there wasn't time to move them across the map to where the battle would happen
I retried it numerous times over multiple days and finally said fuck it

Final Fantasy VII. I got to the final disc and suddenly stopped playing because I honestly thought it was a bore (gameplay-wise and story-wise) and I only played so long to justify my purchase.

I bought Time Crisis 4 on PS3 when it was a lightning deal way, way back after it first came out. This was before I knew that you could have the damn thing in your cart all day after claiming it. I didn’t want to miss out on the deal, so I bought it right away without checking out any reviews. Well a couple friends said it sucked balls (and reviews online agreed) so I never even opened mine. It’s still sitting on my shelf.

When I bought my SNES, I picked up Pit Fighter for $15. I don't think I was actually able to defeat a single opponent. I hate, hate, hate that game.

Resistance 2 came close, but I forced myself to finish. Just thought it was a terrible follow-up to the first one.
I guess I would say Unreal Tournament 3. I played a couple hours of it, realized nobody else was online, and eventually traded it in.

Beyond the Beyond. I think it was the first PS1 RPG. It was intolerable, a random battle every 2 or 3 steps and the battles were overlong and annoying. Usually I keep games but I sold this one just to be sure I wouldn't play another second.

This was my exact first thought as well. Just looking around I see Far Cry, Tron 2.0, King's Bounty, Dead Space, Oblivion, Max Payne 2 and STALKER all within an arm's reach that I haven't finished. I could go digging in boxes or check my Steam account and find tons more.
As for the real stinkers, I was a sucker for pre-release hype around 10 years ago, so these are the ones that really stick out for me:
Daikatana - I alluded to it above, it made me a bitch, but not in the way the ads intended
Trespasser (Jurassic Park) - An awkward-crate-moving, wrist-wrenching-out-of-socket, boob-looking-at-for-health simulator that involved dinosaurs.
Black & White - the most boring game ever to "revolutionize" the gaming world
I know there are others that are just best left forgotten.
and the worst of recent memory:
Painkiller Resurrection - ugh. At least I got Painkiller Black Edition and Painkiller Battle Out of Hell free with my purchase on Steam.

Off the top of my head. These games may or may not have been bad, but they didn't do much for me so I stopped playing them at some point:
Kingdom Under Fire (Circle of Doom or whatever, I forget which one it was)
Transformers
Okami (wii)
Super Ario Galaxy
Resident Evil 1 Wii edition (even with the Wii "upgrade" the Controls still sucked ass)
Metroid Wii

State of Emergency on PS2. I fell for the hype. I played the game for an hour, realized it was shit, and brought it back to EB Games for store credit. This was back when they let you return opened games.
Also when I was younger I saved up my money for months to buy WWF Attitude for the N64. You think $60 games are bad today? Try $70 in 1999. Anyways, I played one match, and realized I wasted my money.
To this day I still can't beat anybody either.

Yeah, I'm terrible about not finishing games, though it's usually not because they're bad. I'll just get a ways in, something new will come out and I'll move on. I'm trying to change that this year and finish everything I start. So far I'm mostly sticking to it, as I've made it through BioShock 2, Darksiders, God of War 3, Heavy Rain, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and inFamous. I'm about 1/3 of the way through Assassin's Creed 2 now. It's tough, because lots of weeks I only have 5 - 10 hours to play and there are just too many great games I want to get to.
Anyway, to get back on topic, I purchased Fantastic Four for the 360 because I saw it somewhere for like $4 and I'd read somewhere that it was similar to Marvel Ultimate Alliance. I made it through about ten minutes, ejected the disc and tossed it in the trash. It was that bad.
