Ugh. I'll be getting this game but I really hate it as well when they force analog usage. Let me guess, the D-Pad is mapped to a bunch of stupid shit that could have been better assigned?

Apparently there is a new Mr.Layton game coming out early next month starring his daughter. Winning!

Now if they'd only get back to physical releases for Phoenix Wright games I'd be a happy camper.

I'm not thrilled with Samus Returns after finishing the first area. The control scheme is really overly cumbersome and the parry mechanic is totally unnecessary.

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!

I must be the oddball, but I find the Samus Returns controls to be perfect. I really enjoy the parry and the button layout works great. Once you figure out the timing for the parry and how it auto-aims after, it's fantastic (in my opinion at least). I've played almost every Metroid game since NES (it was the second game I ever owned after SMB), and I'd put this right up there with any of the others.

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!

So whats the word on DS going forward in a Switch world? I picked up a 2DS cheap, just to play Metroid and it's great. Havent owned a DS in probably 10-12 years. But do you think Nintendo will start phasing it out now since the Switch is a hit, and a handheld? I know there is a Mario game that came out today, but Gamestop showing only 10 upcoming games. Thoughts? Just curious since I just jumped back into DS gaming (at least for Metroid)

Nintendo has pledged support for the 3DS through 2018. The final DS game came out three years after the 3DS launched (and 10 years after the DS launched). Given the number of units out there, I expect there will be games for several more years.

Nintendo says they plan to continue supporting it going forward, but we all know how that goes. The good news for you though either way is there is a pretty good library of 3DS as well as NDS games available to you that you missed in the 10 years since you last owned one.

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!

I've only had my 3DS for about a year and really like it. Even if new games stop coming or at least as frequently I feel like there's a big enough back catalogue that makes it worth owning.

No doubt. Went to GameStop today and was overwhelmed looking at DS /3DS games.

Good to know there is still planned support.

I've been piking up and in some cases rebuying games I missed out on originally. I want to grab Mario Maker 3DS, but I feel that the moment I do, a Switch port will be announced. Digitally there is almost too much to keep up with, and I'm sad that Nintendo has all but abandoned the 3DS VC.

To me, that is a strange choice for a special edition.

The only part that's strange to me is that it's an Amazon exclusive, considering their history with Nintendo.

Wasn't there another Amazon exclusive 3DS? Maybe not an XL, but I'm pretty sure they had another one at some point. And then recently there were Amazon exclusive amiibo as well.

that's pretty confusing with the SNES Classic being available also, but I guess it's good that it won't be in stores.

I would love to own that but all my gaming money has went towards my Xbox One X pre-order.

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!

Kinda cool but I don't need another 3DS. I liked the version they did years back that looks like an NES controller. I don't think that was a New 3DS though.

I found one of the NES editions at a local used store last week, but was let down by the fact that it wasn't a "new" 3DS.

Anybody getting Detective Pikachu today? My copy is coming from Amazon and I might go out later and get the Amiibo. Never have really been a big Pokémon fan but it looks like fun to me.

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!

I'll pick it up eventually. I just started Fire Emblem Fates a couple weeks ago and I'm about halfway through one of three branches. Maybe I'll even play my copies of Fire Emblem Echoes or Samus Returns someday.

Ouch. Nothing they do with these systems looks like a good deal since they did the $99 Black Friday Mario systems.

The SNES one is an XL, whereas the $99 Mario one wasn't as far as I know.
