Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!
Is it worth buying a New 3DS at this point? I've been thinking about it for a while as there are some games I'd be interested in but I feel like the second I do Nintendo will announce something new knowing my luck.

Are you saying you don't have a 3ds at all, or are you upgrading? If you don't have one at all, a new 3DS is worthwhile even if they stop supporting it in a couple of years, if you like the current library.
If you already have an XL or whatever, I don't think it's worth the upgrade unless you really really want to play Xenoblade or something. The 3d is much improved, but despite the name that isn't exactly the draw of the system, and I doubt there will be more than a handful of games that really take advantage of the increased power of the new system.
I did get a new 3DS Zelda XL because I wanted to play Xenogears, and I got my daughter the regular new 3DS because I knew she would love Animal Crossing and the concept of faceplates, as well as the smaller form factor (for her hands), but we definitely could have stuck with the old ones.

Yeah I don't have a 3DS at all. I have a DS Lite currently which I've had for quite a while and never bothered getting a 3DS. Kind of want to now but not sure if it's too late into the lifespan of it. I know it has a good catalog between normal DS and 3DS games though.

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!
I just bought a New 3DS over the holidays. Who cares about the lifespan? The catalog is immense, and fantastic. Right now I'm having a blast playing Fire Emblem: Awakening and eagerly anticipating the next game in the series.
By the way, when I say New 3DS, I don't mean XL. I wanted something I could carry in my pocket. It's easy to bring with me without needing a bag. I think the smaller screen is a worthwhile tradeoff.

They just announced a New 3DS (non XL) bundle with Pokemon plates and the red/blue games preloaded. This will probably sell better than the Animal Crossing bundle, which was the only way to get the non XL one before.
My daughter is currently hooked on Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer (not much of a game, but right up her alley) and Yokai Watch.
I also hope that means they release more accessories for the New 3DS; I kinda want a clear plastic cover for it like I have for my XL.

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!
I am really looking forward to the new Fire Emblem game. The Prime 20% off at Amazon is bonus. $32 for a brand new game? Woohoo!
I kind of want a "new" 3DS but my old one works fine and I will probably hold off until I really need a Xenoblade fix. Has anyone even heard of another game coming that will be "new" 3ds only?

Binding of Isaac is new 3ds only too. But unless Nintendo subsidizes someone, or they need a second stick to even play a game, I don't see the point of spending extra money to utilize the extra power of the new 3ds and cut your prospective market. Kinda like the DSi, how many exclusive games did that have?

FYI
Gamestop has the NEW 3DS XL on sale for $175 and they are also offering $100 trade in for the regular 3DS XL.
I may take advantage of the $75 upgrade as I am using my 3DS more now with Fire Emblem and eventually Xenoblade.

Only thing to consider is that the New doesn't include a power cable and they won't accept the old in trade without one. So you'd have to spend an extra $10 to take advantage of the trade in deal.

Good point. For me, I had purchased a 3rd party cable a while back that has the 3DS port on one end and USB on the other so I can use my phone or Kindle charger for the 3DS.

SNES games coming to 3DS Virtual Console starting today, but only for New Nintendo 3DS models. Ouch.
F-Zero, Pilotwings, and Super Mario World today. Sounds like they're $7.99 each.
Donkey Kong Country, Earthbound, and Super Mario Kart on March 24.
DKC 2, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, and Super Metroid on April 14.
Other games that may be on the way:

Kirby: Planet Robobot was far and away the highlight of that Direct.

What's a "new" 3DS, and how do I know if I have one?
(the one I have isn't the first model, but the 2nd one with the bigger screen)

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!
Are the 3DS SNES ports different than the Wii/WiiU ports? I mean if I buy the New 3DS, will I have access to all of the SNES Virtual Console games that I've bought already? Hmm, saying it out loud, it doesn't sound like something that Nintendo would do

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!
Not yet. It was their biggest mis-step when they unveiled the VC with the Wii. They never had their unified "Nintendo ID" to associate your purchases with you, just the hardware. Hopefully they're on a path to fix that going forward with the NX.
I still can't fathom why the 3DS isn't a controller for the Wii U. They need to embrace their ecosystem rather than divide it. If I have a VC title, I should be able to play that on my tv while sitting on my couch as well as on the subway on my way to work. It's not rocket science, but it's also not selling you the same title over and over and over again.
That has backfired on them for someone like me. Meanwhile, MS and Sony are doing what they can to enable BC on their consoles. They just don't have the legacy or the handheld hardware to do what NintenShould.
