Yeah, while I really kinda want the gold one, it's probably not worth the extra cost. Plus, I just realized I could consolidate some gift cards and birthday cash so I can buy one of the newer ones for much cheaper.

I really just want to play Zelda. After I finish that, I'll either forget about the 3DS entirely, or come back and ask for peoples' top 10 games.

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!

I ended up selling off my original XL for a Zelda XL around Black Friday...I'm a huge Zelda fan, so my hands were tied. I would highly suggest trying Cowboom for their used 3DS XL, that's where I got my original one from, graded as a 4 with a few scratches. When I received it, it was flawless and nabbed it for $115 shipped early last year.

Also, don't abandon the 3DS so soon! ALBW is definitely my favorite, but there are countless excellent games for the 3DS, so be sure to come back for those Top 10.

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!

I bought Disney Magical World for my wife last week on the first day of the Best Buy sale. She isn't much of a gamer, but gets addicted to games she ends up loving. She loved Nintendogs + Cats, Animal Crossing, and now this one has joined that list. I love seeing her play it because I think this one may lead to her trying out a Zelda game or something else like that. Here is the screenshot of her stats so far (and she has collected 47 stickers)...

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!

Well, I bought a 3DS. The one that comes with Mario & Luigi Dream Team. Only played that game for about 10 minutes, but I wasn't impressed.
Looking forward to popping in A Link Between Worlds tonight.
Thanks for the top ten list atxbomber! I'll definitely check out at least a couple of those.

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!

I've played nearly every first-party 3DS title. Dream Team is THE bore of the whole system. I've liked part games...but man, this one was boring and way too text heavy. I really hated how it had to explain EVERYTHING to you. I understand it's a game geared towards kids...but Christ I don't remember NES or SNES games being this way when I was 5 or 6 years old.

I couldn't even make it through the demo. And this was back when I first got my 3DS and had little else to play on it.

No love for Prof Layton MM, Luigi's Mansion, or Mario Kart? Those might be my top 3.

Haven't played Professor Layton (it's in my pile of shame though). Luigi's Mansion I really enjoyed up until the mine level boss fight, then I wanted to throw my 3DS against the wall. Mario Kart 7 is great and probably would be #11 on my top 20.

Looks pretty garish to me. Way to busy to be on a bright red 3DS.

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!

Coming soon -- the New 3DS. With a list of differences this long (and presumed game incompatibility with every 3DS currently on the market), should this be considered a new handheld altogether?

Better 3D. Faster CPU. Longer battery life. C-stick built in. New ZR/ZL buttons. NFC (Amiibo) built in. HTML5 support. MicroSD support. Bigger screen on the regular size 3DS.

EDIT - Yeah, there's a Xenoblade game coming that can only be played on the New 3DS, so...errr....

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!

Well crap. I don't really want to buy another 3DS system, but if the games are going to require it, I might have to. If I can get a decent trade in value for the 3DS XL, I might do that. Though I have no interest in using the Nintendo Skylanders figures.
What's a C-stick?

C-stick is the 2nd analog (the little nub above the X/Y buttons).

Dammit. I took a year to convince myself to upgrade to the XL and now this. Sigh.

Oh, I thought that was a button. That thing is tiny and not very ergonomic. What's the bet that they redesign it in a year?

The thing is : though there are a couple of 3DS games I really like (Super Mario 3D World, Zelda, Mario Golf), if I'm traveling or out and about, I bring my Vita instead with the hundred or so games it has stored on it. I'll probably have to wait for a sale or bundle on this system -- I just don't need it.

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!

Yeah, that thing is going to be useless for games which really need a 2nd analog stick. I don't understand why they just didn't wait and launch it as a completely new handheld next year with a proper re-design. Now game devs have to choose between making their games to utilize the new hardware which very few people will own or for the original 3DS which hundreds of millions of people have already.

Typically every year has a new Nintendo handheld design in some fashion...so yes, they will probably re-design it or modify it in a year.

Maybe we might see GameCube games on it?

Super Famicon colored buttons as well. Interesting.

I'd just be glad to see SNES games on it at some point.

Except it's not the same handheld. It has two extra buttons and a C Stick. Better CPU, Better battery life, better 3D screen etc. The "new" name is pretty stupid and will just confuse people, but maybe the packaging of the games will be different?

Nintendo seems to release a new handheld almost ever year, and this one isn't even hitting US until next year. It's par for the course. It's like being upset that Apple comes out with a new iPhone every September.

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!

Yeah, I just bought a 3DS back in March. Kind of lame to see one with new hardware features and games that specifically take advantage of them. The 3DS initially launched in 2011, so 3 years seems far too soon to do something like that.
