Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!

I've been playing my 3DS a lot the past few weeks, and (unfortunately) I find that I prefer to leave the 3D off. I've only played Pilotwings and Monkey Ball, but while the 3D effects are cool, I haven't been able to train myself to be completely still while playing, I find myself twisting a little when I get into a tough spot, and then the whole screen blurs which makes that tough spot impossible. When I turned the 3D off, then I could relax and just play the game. I'm thinking that the 3DS will not be anywhere as popular as their previous systems, unless they can make a larger sweet spot to play the game in some future hardware update.

Sad that my $250 3DS will also be used to play a 20 year old GB Game. Because it's not like there are any other 3DS games worth playing.

Starfox 64 3D will be out in Japan on 7/14.

It's great to see some Nintendo character games coming out finally, with Zelda and Starfox, but both are just remakes of old games I already. I'm eagerly still awaiting for the new Mario and Mario Kart, and not just the remakes.

Excitebike is fun. Took a lot of errors before it downloaded though. Everyone was in the store trying to get it first. The $3.99 (Canadian) pricepoint for GB games is quite reasonable. When they have titles that I don't own, I will definitely download a few.

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!

It looks like Link's Awakening DX ($5.99) is either up right now, or will be tonight. Lots of videos have apparently been added to download as well.

My fiance currently has my 3DS and I wont be able to check all of this new stuff out until this weekend. Augh!!!

I may as well add this here too...

I bet the 3D in this game, struggling with the ghosts and everything, will be amazing.

A lot of downloadable 3D videos of E3 trailers have been added to the eShop, including Zelda, Super Mario, and Mario Kart. The Super Mario one especially looks fantastic in 3D on the 3DS screen.

The only one I picked up recently was Dead or Alive. I think BlazBlue is coming out soon too, but I'm not getting three fighting games for this system so near launch...

So, I'd like to play these gameboy games, but if I get a 3DS now, I'll probably have a hard time transferring them to the inevitable 3DS Lite. Maybe I should just wait...

So wait 2 years? No 3DSLite has been announced or hinted at. Might as well wait for the next DS.

18 months between DS Phat and the Lite. I can see a 3DSLite coming sooner if sales aren't up to snuff.

With my backlog, that won't be a problem at all. (Plus the Vita will easily tide me over)

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!

I like the 3DS, but in no way will I ever buy the console before its inevitable revamp. I'm not sure if I could stand playing it for an extended period of time, it kind of bugged my eyes out a bit. Original DS games look mediocre on it as well.

I'm much more inclined to get the new Wii, and even that is pushing it.

I'm not sure either of your complaints would be addressed by a revision of the hardware. Most likely the form factor and battery life will be improved (which wouldn't make much of a difference if you don't want to play for an extended period of time).

I like the 3D video previews, that's pretty neat, and even though it won't be revolutionary, I'm looking forward to Animal Crossing.

Link's Awakening on Virtual Console is fantastic. I haven't played this game in years and I had forgotten just how amazing it is.

Yeah, I am not sure how it'll go down, but I know I'll inevitably get one and I'm sure the screen and design of the unit will be brighter and easier on the hands in the future. Whether it gets used is a different story all together. The price point is pretty steep for a handheld because I generally play more primitive games on the run because it's hard to concentrate with all the interruptions.

If the previews are the things you can do with those little cards, that blew me away when a buddy showed me that. Seemed like the coolest thing in the world while he was messing around with it, but I'm not sure how that'd translate into the actual games.

The DSlite actually got darker once they introduced colors. The white launch units were brighter than any released since.

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!

For as much hate as the 3DS is getting as far as it's lack of titles goes... there are a bunch of games that I want for it.

Ocarina of Time
Resident Evil: The Mercenaries
Star Fox 64
Mario Kart
New Super Mario game
Luigi's Mansion 2
Tetris
Paper Mario
Kid Icarus: Uprising
Resident Evil: Revelations
Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater

I think all of those come out before or during the holiday season, too. Except for the last two. That's a pretty nice list of games by the time 2012 rolls around.
