Fired up Ghost Recon the other day - that's a nice use of the 3D. Adds some nice depth, and the game isn't super fast paced so the eyes aren't always flipping out like I found they did with Monkeyballs.

Nintendo 3DS moves 400,000 in bid to retake US mobile gaming
updated 08:05 am EDT, Fri April 15, 2011
Nintendo 3DS sells 400K but doesn't pass DS
Nintendo's US president Reggie Fils-Aime in an interview late on Thursday gave out promised 3DS sales numbers. About 400,000 of the game system shipped in the week after it reached the US on March 27. He was "very satisfied with this start" in speaking to USA Today and touted upcoming plans for Netflix support and the online store.
The figure didn't make it the best-selling Nintendo system. The company sold 460,000 DSi systems during the same week. It outperformed the Wii, however, which sold 290,000 systems during all of March and was outsold by the Xbox 360 by a wide 143,000-unit margin. Fils-Aime cautioned not to directly compare the 3DS' results too closely to the DSi that week or during the original DS launch, noting that the month-old Pokemon Black and Pokemon White were still driving sales of the older system and that the original DS launched during Thanksgiving week, usually the strongest-selling week of the year.
Unlike the Japanese sellouts, stock still remained after the launch. The extra stock was deliberate, Fils-Aime claimed. Supply had been staged at distribution spots in between so that a store running low could get new stock instead of having to wait for its next regular shipment. It was a testament to how well the supply chain worked, he said.
The results weren't ideal for Nintendo but suggested a relatively strong start for an off-season launch and would have made more profit than on the DSi, with a full $100 price gap sitting between the $250 3DS and its predecessor. It may need to count on sustained sales to counter the iPhone and iPod touch in gaming, as the combined effect of their sales may have directly led to a steep drop in holiday sales. Nintendo has had to gradually address the impact of the Apple hardware and is counting on the 3DS' much more contemporary hardware, glasses-free 3D, and much more Internet-aware platform to draw in gamers that would otherwise have skipped over a dedicated game console.

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!
I've been playing Rayman and Ghost Recon (review is up for approval on VGT.) Both are really good.
I have to return my 3DS for an exchange though, because it has a pixel issue and froze on me. The secondary reason is more precautionary than anything, but I'm paranoid about the shape of my stuff (especially when it comes to LCD screens,) so I want one that doesn't have a pixel issue.

It froze on you? Were you playing Ghost Recon with wireless enabled? I've had that happen to me a few times, so I just turn wireless off whenever I play Ghost Recon (and whenever I remember). Still pretty crappy.
I am enjoying the little Mii minigames and the whole streetpass thing, though I don't really go to many places where there would be a ton of 3DS's.

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!
I'd been planning to return it anyways but kept waiting because I was working on reviews. I'm going to return it tomorrow as it's apparently my last day to do so, for a new blue one. Hopefully it won't have any issues.
To some people, a pixel issue isn't a major thing if it's just limited to one, but I'm really paranoid about the condition of my stuff. So it really bugs me.
Anyways - my Ghost Recon review is up on VGT.

Basically it'll glitch out every once in a while if you have wireless enabled and you're playing the game. This is the only game I have that does this, and I have no idea what triggers it, but it doesn't seem to happen if wireless is off.

Gameboy and Gameboy Color first? I mean, I have fond memories of a lot of Gameboy and GBC games, but I'm not all that excited about using up my 5 hours of battery life on them...

At least offer GBA games, as that's about the point where developers started taking handhelds more seriously. I can't think of a single GB or GBC game I would be interested in playing. Sure, there's Link to the Past, but how many frickin times can a person play that game?
I can think of several GBA games I would play. And they damn well better offer up some SNES games eventually.

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!
I've had nothing but bad luck with these things. I guess it doesn't help that I'm paranoid, but I'm on my third now. Haven't opened it yet because I've been busy with other games, but probably will today.
The first one I bought (a day after launch,) though I didn't open it until I had to send back my review unit, was defective. It froze on me during Ghost Recon and had a pixel issue. So, I returned it and got another one that had dust behind the screen and had a distinct black pixel.
Ended up getting the guarantee at EB because the day I returned the second one was my last day on my warranty, and I figured it was worth it for peace of mind. Hopefully this one is okay. Knock on wood.

I'm really excited for the eShop. Sure, I've played Zelda DX a dozen times, but it's probably better then most of the current 3DS games. Really wish they would do GBA games.

Alright1 Nintendo Japan has announced that the 3DS online shop and browser will be activated on June 7th, a month after the projected May launch. Now this is what I've been waiting for. Downloading "Super Mario Land" on Day 1!
